Just not up to Melia's standards, our room was nice, roomy BUT DIDN'T HAVE HOT OR WATRM WATER - Food was just not up to Melia's standards, not a lot of variety. One is a cafeteria, the other small bites and the 3rd a seafood restaurant that you will have to pay more, even though we received the premium package the meal was just fair. Pool is run down, tiles falling off, off the beaten path to get to tours, although Ubers are inexpensive. This resort has so much potential, just a shame it't not meeting it.

Delicious food

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Delicious food. I recommend the “cazuela cartagenera” a sea food soup with a lot of shrimps, octopus and calamari. The soup comes with coconut rice and patacón (fried plantains). Colombia is a must Beautiful place and sea view. Good service

Melua Cartegena Karmairi

We arrived on the 25th Feb from England after a 13 hours of travel. We caught the yellow taxis from the airport, and they charged us $25. This is because the hotel did not answer to any of my emails or the many phone calls I made to try and arrange transport from the hotel, which they say would have been cheaper. Approx $10 or around 40000 COP local currency is peso. After arriving at the hotel reception for 07.00, we were told the rooms would not be available until checking for 15.00. However, the receptionist pulled some tricks and made a room available for us for midday. When we got to the room, we noticed that there were issues in the room. So we addressed them with the receptionist, and within 30 min , we resolved all the issues with power to the room, safe not working, iron, kettle and coffee making machine, balcony furniture, and towels The room we got was a deluxe room, which was a nice room with a balcony facing the swimming pool. The rooms are large and nice with a chair and a comfy queen size bed and a TV. The shower room is large and equipped all the amenities like shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. I would say that although the rooms are nice, they do need renovation as the taps are rusty and the toilet flush mechanism rusty and many more things in the room too. The pool is large in front of the hotel. Was not very busy during our stay so we got sun beds where ever we wanted, the pool does need renovation too as there are many tiles missing so you could cut yourself if not careful. There is a drinks bar service until late. That is if you're all inclusive, which we were. There is another pool near the fish restaurant which is quieter and nice. Not all areas are all-inclusive, which is the fish restaurant. There is a beach bar that serves drinks and snacks with a beach area at the back of the hotel with access to the beach. The beach is sandy and long and nice. Water seems to be brown coloured sea water. The restaurant is a buffet restaurant in the basement of the hotel. The food was very good and cooked fresh every day. Breakfast, lunch, and evening meal lovely standards. Fresh pasta and egg stations are available. Food was of good quality and catered for all your needs. There is a lobby bar with a restaurant to which serves like Al e carte snack, which we loved. You would get food like fresh octopus, king prawns in garlic, and many other dishes every day. Really nice food. The hotel is kept spotless by there many good cleaning staff. The restaurant and the bar staff could not do enough for you and always went out of their way. All were very good and made the work effortless for the hotel. The hotel is in need of entertainment as it was next to non or all in spanish. There is a spa, which is good and reasonably priced the hotel has a shuttle which is free and takes you to Cartegena Town daily in two hr slots from morning (08.00 to 18.00)which was excellent. There was a major issue with the language barrier as all staff only spoke Spanish. But you could get by because of google Translate and as the hotel has excellent WiFi. I would say the management needs to address this as well as the renovation of the hotel, language barrier issues, and entertainment. If the hotel was renovated, this would entice more guess to visit. This hotel is probably a 3* but worth a visit. It is definitely not a 4 or 5 * In Feb to March, the weather was 32 to 34 degrees. Things to do there is a sightseeing London bus which takes you for a tour. Use online app or but on the bus. Cartegena Town is approx 20km from the hotel. Visit to the Avairy to see exotic birds. Day trips to other islands.

Avoid A Bad Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Pros: An adult all inclusive off the beaten path Cons: You'll have to pay more for taxis to go back & forth on tours. My room had the faint smell of trash/sewer or something. They wouldn't change it. My room needed renovating (cracked ceiling, broken floor boards) & maintenance (missing lights bulbs, leaky showers). There was construction being done outside early morning til the evening. I paid for the all inclusive option and there are no healthy food options. I'm a plant based pescatarian. Everything had meat/cheese in it. I had fruit and coffee for breakfast. They suggested I go and buy food at a neighboring restaurant. The bar had food I could eat but refused to make it. The manager had to intervene. Needless to say, I was happy to leave.
