I visited for a week in May with my baby grandson (10 months) and his mother. It was our first trip away together and I wanted it to be perfect (as perfect as it could be with a little one in tow!). From the moment I booked until the moment we left, we were treated like VIPs. The hotel itself is gorgeous. Bright, smart, spacious rooms with beautiful large marble bathrooms. Lovely linens, good housekeeping and glorious view over the water gardens. But what makes Martinhal Cascais really special is the charming staff - efficient, professional and amazingly warm and kind. For example, mealtimes with a little one can often be stressful - will they fling food everywhere? will they start wailing and disturb other diners? But at Martinhal, there is no stress. The fine dining room is a beautiful room with white table clothes, crystal glasses and beautiful cutlery - exactly as you'd expect - but it also has de luxe high chairs and a carpet that is quite happy to catch all the drops from the baby's tray and all that food flung on the floor... and the staff say 'we'll clean it up, don't worry, we're used to it' all the while winking or smiling at the baby. At the end of the room is a small play area, fully equipped with great toys - but also with a child minder - so that if your little one gets a bit grizzly you can take him to play there, or even leave him there for a few minutes so that you can finish your meal in relaxation. A special shout out to the staff in the Kids Club - not only were they really professional but I felt that they genuinely loved kids and felt very comfortable leaving the baby with them for a couple of hours. Every time we met the Kids Club staff they called out to my grandson by name with big smiles that charmed us all. For a family holiday, this place is a delight for big kids and small - no compromises.

We stayed at Martinhall recently and it was a superb experience. The hotel is high quality with very attentive staff. Staying as a couple we had a very relaxing experience albeit, the hotel probably caters more for families. We will recommend this to all of our friends, especially those travelling with children. The SPA looked good but we did not use it. Front of house staff were superb !!!

An excellent modern hotel, helpful staff, lovely grounds and facilities. Wonderful children's centre set apart in own secure grounds. Located in a residential area near Cascais town surrounded with beautiful houses and grounds. Not within walking distance of a sandy beach. Coastline short walk away is rocky.

We stayed at this hotel for 10 days in April with a large group and found it excellent in every way. The rooms are large, probably a bout 40 sq m) and bright and well equipped. An odd design feature was the glass barrier between the bedroom and bathroom with an optional blind. Each to his or her own I suppose but I can't just think of a good reason for that. The grounds are large and provide space to sit quietly. Another reason for that is the facility for children's activities. Speaking as one without small children I find it wholly advantageous that they are somewhere else enjoying themselves and not disturbing me! It's quite a walk to the sea and then not at a particularly attractive spot so you would have to think in terms of a long walk or a drive with all the parking problems that go with it. Still, that's not the hotel's fault! The large spa area was underused during our stay but that may be due to the mix of clients at that time. A shame because it is very well equipped. I suppose the test is whether we would go back and the answer to that is yes.

Just back from a 6 night stay in Martinhal Cascais with our 1yr old and 2yr old boys. You can tell this place was designed by parents for parents! Its luxurious yet relaxed, and our boys loved it. We arrived late on our first night, and our driver was at the airport waiting, car seats ready for the boys, and he even put on Frozen on the DVD player for them to watch. On check in, the boys were given their own fun packs with hats and a toy which they loved. We all shared a hotel room for the first three nights, which was lovely but with two boys who need to go to bed early, it was a little restrictive. So we upgraded to a villa for the rest of our holiday and that was a game changer. We could put the boys to bed at 8pm and then stay up and have drinks on the balcony or watch TV without disturbing them. The kids club here is fantastic, and the kids really warmed to the staff there. Julia, Antonio and Carolina were instant hits! It was bliss to be able to leave the boys there and head to the spa for a couple of hours. I'd a full body massage one of the days, and its well worth booking in for one. The kids club has a ball pit, mini playground, plus they did arts and crafts. Just the dream really. Our boys loved the sandpit and zipline, and you can chill out on the massive bean bags while they play away. Its all enclosed and you just feel like your kids are safe. Breakfast was also great. The restaurant has a little play area for the kids and a minder in there too, so they can play away while you're finishing your coffee. Brilliant when they get restless in their high chairs. They also have little child friendly touches like plastic bowls/cups/plates, flipflops for kids in the room, games areas. Our guys had a tummy bug while there, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. One staff member even drove me to the supermarket to buy extra nappies etc. We also rented bikes on site there and cycled into Cascais with the boys on the back of the bikes, and it was a real highlight. The whole vibe there is super friendly and super relaxed. It isn't cheap so it won't be for everyone, but if you can try it even once, it'll be a great holiday for the whole family.
