Excellent Children's play area. Lovely setting. I wish the food were better. It would make all the difference. So far it has been consistently disappointing and the service is pretty questionable. For such a lovely place it makes no sense not to have some decently cooked, simple food. With high hopes they improve.... overall very nice.

Just returned from a lovely holiday in Cascais, travelling as a family of four (2 children 5 and 1). I would love to return again (particularly if some of the improvements are made). This is my very honest review of the hotel. The Positives: Beautiful rooms, very clean, lovely kids club, hotel doesn't feel crowded, staff very friendly and helpful, lovely pools and very happy to see some heated pools, great swimming instructor, enjoyed the bon bon chocs provided by housekeeping. Areas for improvement: I think the hotel should provide complimentary bottle of water each day as opposed to just the first day. Breakfast is sufficient, but more limited compared to other luxury hotels and I did experience a number of issues when ordering hard boiled eggs for the kids or wholefruits which are extremely limited. I feel the food choice is a bit limited across lunch and dinner. I'm a clean eater and was craving healthier options such as vegetables. Having eaten at all restaurants, I think the quality of the food could improve as well as the choice. Salads from M Bar were disappointing and a very small portion size for what you pay. We ate at the main restaurant one night and felt the food combination was a little strange. Hence we ate out a lot. This leads me onto the shuttle service. I feel that hotel would benefit from providing more frequent shuttles and offer a free service into Cascais town. Other possible improvements - add complimentary yoga / pilates sessions and more activities for children towards end of the day.

We had a fantastic stay. Staff superb throughout. Our 6 year old loved every minute! Kids Club kept him thoroughly entertained for 3 hours a day. Spa was excellent, we had really good treatments. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

The Martinhal family hotel is an excellent venue for a family break. Not overcrowded with great pool facilities that my 8 year old son loved. The food selection is very good and the hotel location near Sintra and Lisbon enables days out exploring. The kids club is probably aimed at younger children and my son did not use it but in summary this was a great place to relax and unwind.

We stayed two nights in July and were very impressed by the staff and family friendly set up. Children's play areas are excellent and facilities are extensive. Rooms were great with bunk beds built in for kids. The resort caters for families in every way and the staff were fantastic. Our daughter had the best few days as a result. Restaurants on site were pleasant with child activities to keep kids engaged whilst allowing parents some time to eat peacefully though the food choices were quite narrow. Fortunately Cascais is just a few minutes drive away as are restaurants on the coast further north if the main restaurant becomes boring. Overall a great set up. We will definitely book again and return to this or a sister resort. The groups founder certainly has the right idea and one we would hope could be replicated elsewhere in the world.
