There is another review of mine from last year that is worth reading as it covers room choice and a few other bits =================== There is so much good at this hotel, even if you are not part of a family with young children but in some respects, the directors are clearly not listening Starting with the staff ..... they are all invariably cheerful and helpful, and of particular note are Monica Lobo (hotel manager) and the two Pedro's on the front desk .... so good to see that they have stayed when so many others have left (don't get me started on that!) Our children are now grown up, but certainly young children are very well catered for at Martinhal with an outstanding playground, safe swimming pool, child listening service in the evening and I'm sure many other bits catering for that part of Martinhal's market HOWEVER The hotel owners have forgotten that their market also includes the likes of ourselves and others who come for the golf - the true championship course of Oitavos Dunes is just down the road In particular, O Terraco (the main restaurant) is a total disaster (disgrace) for evening meals, though breakfast is pretty good in an English sort of way In the evening, O Terraco is deserted not only because the food is so awful, but because no thought has been given to its ambience or anything else .... yet it would be so easy to fix without huge expenditure This isn't a failure of the hotel management, but of the directors who hold the pursestrings and make policy decisions Even the light menu in the bar has no cohesion or indeed anything that would appeal to adults Strangely, M Bar just the other side of the children's playground has got its message right Nice ambience and a simple menu, primarily pizzas and other simple things, which are then produced well In conclusion, guests who want to eat in the evenings are effectively forced go out to one of the excellent restaurants that abound in cascais itself, or even closer to the hotel

I’ve given this 5 stars, primarily because the staff are all so helpful and cheerful. It is also a beautiful, modern hotel. The only things that need ‘tweaking’ in my view are the food in the main restaurant & bar. We ate (once!) in the main restaurant one evening. The pea hummus was watery and unpleasant, so we sent it back, I won’t bore you with the next courses, they were poor. Basically, the food on offer needs to alter. A smaller evening menu with local specials, plus food we all want to eat. Separate children’s menu. Next, I would update the bar menu. People like club sandwiches, open sandwiches, interesting salads and pastas. Again, separate children’s menu. Lastly, in the evening the atmosphere in the main restaurant is akin to eating in an airport. I would replace the unsightly black high chairs with something less eye catching and make family dining near the entrance and couples down the far end of the restaurant. Some low lamplight is needed! All this being said, the Italian restaurant over the kids club was very pleasant and enjoyable. ‘Tweaks’ aside, this is a really lovely hotel and we will return again with and without family!

The standard room was very spacious. Staff very courteous although could be difficult to find. End of season so maybe short on staff. Very popular with families with children under 5 so could be noisy at breakfast. Only one complaint- children could use spa pool and they could be heard whilst I was having a relaxing massage!

Only negative. We stayed in a villa which is on a small public road so I had some safety concerns with the kids being able to open the front door. There is a security car on patrol but the whole resort isn't gated as such. The kids club is brilliant. As you're not in the town, it's a taxi ride to a shop. While we had a lovely welcome hamper in the villa, it is a pity that there's not a mini market within walking distance.

There's everything here for a family vacation, spa and gym, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, children's playground and a games room with a hotel employee who plays with the children until late hours. There are two restaurants here and it helps if you do not want to leave in the evening for the nearest city
