Great place for family vacations. Set up with a great amount of detail (e.g. different sizes bathrobes, flipflops for all family members, play areas with nannies in the restaurant, kids and baby menus in teh restaurants) for families, especially with younger children. Kids Club is kitted out with the most modern equipment for kids, with extremely attentive staff. We will definitely return soon!

As you will read from others, the public spaces, bedrooms and sitting areas are brilliantly planned and thought out. The facilities are of a high standard and easily accessible, but, most of all, the thoughtful, kind and helpful service from all the staff is what makes the Martinhal a very special experience. Everyone smiles, is willing to put themselves out and has just a little time to exchange pleasantries and offer help. This makes a memorable holiday for all.

We have stayed in this hotel three times en famille and love it. Our group ranges from age 83 down, and all needs are catered for. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. The grounds and pool area idyllic. The hotel is very family orientated providing an amazing kids club for the younger generation, with self catering accommodation if preferred. What makes this hotel one of the best I have stayed in is the staff. Without exception they are wonderful. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

We spend 1 week in Martinhal as a family of four, two adults, two kids - 3 yrs & 1 yrs. We booked direct with the hotel and got a good deal on one of the houses, which suited us better as my son won't eat anything from a jar so needed the facility for making baby food, bottles etc. We took the transfer with the hotel and it was great, lovely people carrier with the appropriate car seats for our children. We usually hire a car but this time because the hotel seemed to have such great facilities we decided we probably wouldn't leave the resort much and we didn't! On arrival the kids were given gift bags with sun hats, games and a Rafi teddy bear which is the hotels mascot - it's a fox, also makes appearances a regular times during the day to dance and play with the kids. The houses are beautiful, they have a small but functional kitchen, nice living area for the kids to play and two bedrooms upstairs. The hotel provided cot, high chair, blender and an upright changing station for my son so I wasn't killed trying to change him on the bed or the floor. The station also doubled as a baby bath as there is no bath in the house which is a bit of a nightmare with two small children. The bath on the station is fine for a 6 month old but not a 1 year old. So evenings were spend trying to wash the kids in the shower which proved difficult but we survived. The cleaning staff were lovely and if we were in the house would make a beeline to the kids. They were super friendly and after the first day arrived back with Tommee Tippee Sangenic nappy disposal bin because the bin in the house was so small that one or two nappies and it would be full. The house also had stair gates so good piece of mind. Only other thing lacking is a washing machine, something you would expect in a villa especially when you have small kids. The hotel does have a laundry service but pricey for baby vests & bibs! The hotel has a shuttle in and out of town, car seats provided again so we were able stock up on the few basics we needed. There is also a mini-mart in Vila Bicuda which is a short 10min walk away. Here you will also find an amazing bakery with fabulous cakes and breads. It's nice for a stroll and a sandwich during the day. There is a restaurant at this resort too but we didn't try it and a launderette, cheaper than hotel laundry prices. We had breakfast included which was of a very high standard. Waiters on hand with highchairs & plastic bibs for the small ones. Lovely to have plastic cups and plates for the kids. Good selection of food and you can order fresh pancakes / waffles too. Most important and the reason why we enjoyed our breakfasts and evening meals so much is that there is a little area in the main dining room with a creche worker present. Now they are not there to fully mind your child but they are supervising so my 3yrs would head down once she had finished eating and play. they had lots of toys so she might take one back to the table. But this entertained her no end, building things or playing house /shop with one of the lovely girl's supervising. My son would also crawl around too happy out with all the toys. Dinner at the hotel was nice, food was of a good standard and in the evenings you had a choice of two restaurants. After a week you might get a bit bored of the same thing but we kept going because for the first time in forever the kids happily played whilst we ate. I did bring my sons food to the restaurant as they don't really provide food for babies apart from one dish. So this was always heated for him. My daughter took the kids meal and there was a good selection of the usual pasta/pizza/goujons/fish etc and all seemed to be home made. The only thing they could address here is the portion size. My daughter is 3 and so we paid 6/7 euro for a kids meal that would feed three of her. It was a waste of food and no matter how many times we said small a big plate would arrive. Considering the amount of under 4's at the resort I think they should have older kids / smaller kids meals and adjust the price accordingly. Pools and play area are all great, during the day you can also eat at both the pools. Don't bother with the club house food, it's really poor by comparison to all the other food on site. But the food at the main pool is quite good and I would recommend. Also great to have the heated pool at the club house / creche. We did pop the kids in for a morning and my husband could go check on the them and make sure they were OK. It's about 10 euro an hour for this service, but you have to drop in 2/3 hour slots which just seems quite a long time to me. FIne if it's a 3 year old doing an activity but a baby. I would have liked to pop my son in for an hour here and there but not any longer than that. The one morning we did put him in he got fussy after an hour and a half so my husband ended up taking him out. Team in the creche were lovely and during the day would interact with the kids if they were out and about. Also the visiting fox was a great attraction in the morning and evening. On one of the days he even had a birthday party with cake. It was good for both kids and parents to mingle at this. All kids activities apart from the play area in the restaurant and fox appearances are at a charge, so just a word of warning. Would be nice to have one or two more free activities/entertainment even if parents have to be present. Overall I loved this resort, perfect for families with young children. We have been to Martinhal in Sagres but I definitely preferred here, even minus the beach it was a wonderful holiday and we hope to return soon.
