Set within the historical fortress of the symbolic 16th century Citadel of Cascais, Pousada de Cascais - the Pestana Cidadela Historic Hotel & Art District is a sign of innovation in Portugal. This elegant hotel, a part of the Lifestyle collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, is Europe's first hotel to have its own art district. This unique retreat blends ancient and contemporary with breathtaking style. Beyond the fort’s striking stone walls awaits alluring seaside rooms, stunning Cascais Bay views, and open art studios. Guests will be charmed with the friendly service, luxurious amenities and welcoming atmosphere. Bright, modern rooms compliment the hotel's beautiful white exterior.

This establishment falls short of expectations with exorbitant charges, including 8 Euros for tap water. The octopus dish, steeped in vinegar, lacked freshness, raising concerns about its preparation and storage. Contrary to the manager's justification, it seems likely that the octopus had been marinated excessively. Comparisons with similar dishes elsewhere reveal a notable disparity in quality. Considering the adjacent hotel, we're relieved we opted against staying, as the overall experience suggests a lack of value and integrity.

What a beautiful hotel, the room was clean and really lovely, had no problem going back in evening after a long day and relaxing in the room, breakfast was plenty and had a lot of choice. The staff were exceptional, friendly and very helpful, nothing was to much trouble. The town of Cascais was so beautiful, really worth a visit if you want gorgeous scenery and a chilling break. Travelling to the neighbouring towns was very easy to do using Bolt and not to far, Lisbon was only 30 minutes away. We would definitely go again and would love to stay at this hotel. Thank you for a great stay

Stayed here as part of a Riviera tour and was really looking forward to experiencing this hotel. The location, design and buildings are amazing and really makes a first class impression. Couldn't fault the bedroom, bathroom and was looking forward to a luxury experience at breakfast. Sadly let down by two small points, which emphasized that staff attention to detail seemed lacking for a 5 star hotel. We had a coffee machine in our room, but no coffee pods. I had to ask at reception not once, or twice, but THREE times (over a period of about 2 hours) for someone to give us some and then we were begrudgingly given 2 pods (between us both, that was 1 each, which seemed a little mean). At breakfast it seemed impossible to attract the attention of any of the waiting staff - you needed to ask for coffee, as this was brought to the table, everything else was self service. We eventually managed to ask for coffee and waited 20 mins, asking two further members of staff, but none came. I eventually went up to the bar service area and asked the guy behind the counter and was told a table-service staff would bring it me. After another 15 minutes wait, we gave up. This is a basic level of service, which should be a given. I'm not a total coffee freak, but it seemed impossible to get a cup in this place, maybe there was a national shortage!

This hotel has a great location, a great breakfast and extremely good staff, unfortunately it lets itself down in a few other areas. Our room was tired, just really in need of a make over, the floor was grubby and the bathroom was past its best, especially the shower that was possibly just cobbled together with parts that worked resulting in a shower that could jump off the hook and soak the the whole bathroom. The room itself had a smell that was very notable on first entry and the chairs had a strange slope to them making them really uncomfortable to sit in. Disappointingly there was a charge for the car park, bearing in mind the high room rate I just think it was profiteering.

Lovely room, perfect breakfast, extremely helpful staff and even made room for us after a horrible adventure in Portimao. The indoor pool and saunas are wonderful after a day of sightseeing. The restaurant on-site stays open late and has a very sweet staff. This location is perfect for walking to the shopping area of Cascais and is located near a lot of restaurants for a variety of food. I definitely recommend this hotel for a stay in Cascais.
