Sunny skies shine brightly over lush stretches of vineyards, cool crisp air flows through fields, and the beauty of the Renaissance era is brought to life once more - all in Montalcino, Italy's Castello di Velona. Nestled in the hills of Siena, in Tuscany's picturesque d'Orcia Valley, this stunning 11th-century castle has been fully restored and today offers a fairytale luxury European escape. Immerse yourself in serenity in either the traditional castle rooms or the new spa-style rooms, relaxing in complete comfort and enjoying sweeping views of Tuscany. The classically styled Castello Rooms are charming and full of life, with antique furnishings, and ornate style reminiscent of Italy's artistic history. Conversely, opt to embrace sleek modernity in the Spa Rooms, outfitted in warm whites and cream tones, boasting an elegant simplicity with plush linens and indulgent soaking tubs that flow with natural mineral spring water.

Had a great experience here in this beautiful castle in the Tuscan hills. We loved the meals in the restaurants. Superb food and fantastic wines, and great service from the staff. My wife took full advantage of the spa and pool. Would love to go back.

The hotel is beautiful, but there is something off about this place. You should check out the ghost of Velona. I felt like a cash cow more than a guest. Transfer provided by car service €110 each way as compared to €30 to €70 by private car. Why would they do this? They also take a piece of restaurants they booked for me. Left a bad taste in my mouth. The staff seems a bit unhappy as well. I don’t know, something toxic about the ownership.

It’s fine. Not worth more than that. Truly not worth even the review. Incredibly expensive for sub par food, a lackluster concierge, little to no service, rude staff. However, I will note, Domenico and the cooking class was the only highlight! Last thing - don’t pay for a suite with a terrace, the doors do not open but somehow still allowed water in when it rained. Not sure.

We had our daughter's wedding here May 2025 and all I can say is that it was the most magical 3 days any of us have ever experienced. We booked it sight-unseen on a recommendation of a friend of a friend who had stayed there once. The staff was absolutely incredible in helping us pull it together in 6 months. Every Zoom call showed how organized they were and we were kept informed every step of the way with updated expense sheets. We had most of the rooms (50ish people) which was so fun. The Castello itself is nothing short of magnificent with views you cannot believe. The rooms were amazing and no 2 are alike. The mineral baths are enormous and continue on inside with sauna, steam rooms and hot baths tucked everywhere. The guests had plenty to occupy themselves with between events. The staff could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. From the welcome dinner complete with a strolling accordion player, to the vintage Fiat delivered for the day for pictures and joyrides, to the ceremony on the terrace, to the sunset dinner and afterparty with fireworks, to the farewell pool party, nothing could have been more perfect. Their attention to detail and ability to make all the magic happen despite the weather and changes to the plan were incredible. It was really the little things that made it so special, like what we thought was just going to be some pizzas and salads for the pool party turned out to be an outdoor pizza oven with chefs hand-tossing dough and making each salad to order. And the food. Oh the food. Nothing stressed me more than never tasting the food before having people eat it for 3 days, but I had nothing to worry about. To say the food was delicious does not do it justice in the least. Every single guest commented that they have never had food this good at any event - ever. I have petitioned for the chef to get a raise. To quote the groom's 96 year old grandmother - "This is the best wedding I have ever been to, and I have been to a lot!"

We had a spectacular time in this fairy-tale setting! This vistas from all sides of the Castello are simply amazing. The facility is both unique and pristine and the staff is A+. In addition to the views, the superstar of this property is also the thermal pools and the food and wine selections. We spent hours in the various pools just soaking in the relaxation and the views. It was truly remarkable. The food was outstanding although not cheap - but the room prices were very reasonable so it balanced out. We loved this spot and can’t wait to return!

Most outstanding was Castello di Velona, located on its own hill in Montalcino, Italy. Just approaching it was a fairy tale. This restored castle enabled me to imagine what it would be like being a princess for five wonderful nights. The suite encompassed two rooms, with exquisite furnishings and frescoes. The views from the windows looked upon the vineyards and winding roads of Tuscany. The service and food were wonderful.
