Belmond Charleston Place in Charleston, South Carolina

The South is known for its genteel hospitality, and Belmond Charleston Place is a prime example why. Understated service is ever-present. Under a 12-foot hand-blown Venetian chandelier, a grand open-arm staircase leads to rooms decorated in refined neutrals. Next door, an Art Deco theater restored by the hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and at the Charleston Grill nightly live jazz accompanies a AAA Four-Diamond dinner menu of gourmet Southern classics.

Step out onto your Juliet balcony to watch Charleston wake up. Wander through narrow cobblestoned streets, tripping across eclectic local boutiques and history markers dating from the Civil War. Take a picturesque countryside drive to America’s only tea plantation. After a soul-warming plate of buttery grits and shrimp, snuggle up in a horse-drawn carriage as it ambles on Southern time.

We had a marvelous stay at the Belmond Charleston Place. The rooms are well appointed. The staff is excellent. We were there during the solar eclipse and the arrangements for the eclipse package were excellent.

From the moment we arrived, every staff member we encountered couldn't have been more polite, courteous, and friendly. The room was a nice size and the all-marble bathroom was great. We had lots of storage and plenty of towels. Upgrade to the Club Level. There was always food of some sort available and in the evening, a bartender to make whatever you liked. The location seemed perfect too. There were lots of restaurants, and shopping nearby. We had dinner in the Grill the first night. The staff were honestly the nicest, friendliest I have ever encountered, anywhere. The waiters were knowledgeable about the food, however, we chose a wine and our waiter suggested something else that we really did not care for. We should have spoken up because I am sure they would have made a change for us. The food was delicious/amazing (pricey) but we had a wonderful experience. We loved our stay and will be back.

Visited the Belmond, for 4 days to celebrate anniversary. Very impressed with the room. Had lunch and dinner in hotel perfect!! Throughly enjoyed the piano lounge, we even requested songs. We ventured out once but honestly with this hotel you do not need to leave the premises. Great shops and food. Thanks for the complimentary champagne and chocolate strawberries for our anniversary.

My husband and I stayed here two nights for a babymoon (our toddler was at his grandparent's, really, we could've stayed at a Motel 6 and been happy to sleep past 6am and have a relaxing "adult" dinner!). The hotel was recommended by a friend and she couldn't have made a better suggestion. First, the location is great. We parked in the city lot next to the hotel and didn't move the car once - it was very easy to walk everywhere... the Market, great restaurants, Battery Park, carriage tours, French Quarter (for Black Tap Coffee)... Anyway, our stay began with a surprise bottle of sparkling cider and chocolate covered strawberries with a lovely thank you from the hotel for choosing to stay there for our babymoon. The hospitality was wonderful. The room felt luxurious and bed was super comfortable. I particularly liked coming in to see the room had been turned down for the night, including fresh bottles of water. The bathrooms and toiletries were also very nice. Since I was almost 7 months pregnant and it was late August and about 175 degrees, I really enjoyed the pool and deck. They were painting it while we were there, which I heard some people complain about, but the roof was opened up, as were all the doors to the deck, so that didn't bother me! Highly recommend staying here, especially for a special occasion. You won't be disappointed!
