Belmond Charleston Place in Charleston, South Carolina

The South is known for its genteel hospitality, and Belmond Charleston Place is a prime example why. Understated service is ever-present. Under a 12-foot hand-blown Venetian chandelier, a grand open-arm staircase leads to rooms decorated in refined neutrals. Next door, an Art Deco theater restored by the hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and at the Charleston Grill nightly live jazz accompanies a AAA Four-Diamond dinner menu of gourmet Southern classics.

Step out onto your Juliet balcony to watch Charleston wake up. Wander through narrow cobblestoned streets, tripping across eclectic local boutiques and history markers dating from the Civil War. Take a picturesque countryside drive to America’s only tea plantation. After a soul-warming plate of buttery grits and shrimp, snuggle up in a horse-drawn carriage as it ambles on Southern time.

From the time we stepped in the hotel we felt like we were re-visiting old friends The welcome was warm and we were given the key/card to our room. We had a deluxe king on the 4th floor. The room was spacious and so pretty. We were going to spend a full week here and the size was appreciated As expected, the room was spotless. The evening "turn-down" brought us a bottle of water and some ice for the ice bucket. During the time we were there we saw that their was quite a bit of activity on the main level. The sound level in hallways was very low. The concierge was able to guide my wife to a very fine optical shop and the shop was able to take care of my wife's need. The daily cleaning of the room was done fairly quickly after we left the room. The exit was quick and again very cordial. This is a great location in Charleston.

Stayed here with family for graduation. Club floor was great for us to all handle breakfast at our own times and on site. Plenty of snacks and drinks later in the day. Great staff, very gracious. Excellent rooms and comfortable beds. Great location near everything downtown. Plenty of local dining options. Family used the pool a couple of times, very nice. Would definitely return and I am not easy to please, like things just so when traveling.

A wonderful hotel to stay at in a wonderful city. Close to all the beautiful houses and the shopping in King Street. The famous Charleston Grill is expensive and the menu limited. There are a plethora of better restaurants - and cheaper - around. Breakfast is also expensive in The Palmetto and no other real options. Staff are exceptional. Would thoroughly recommend as long as your wallet is full!

I attended a work event at the Charleston Place a couple weeks ago. Sometimes, historic hotels/inns rest on their laurels and let things get a little rough around the edges. Not so with the Belmond Charleston Place. It was impeccably maintained inside and had plenty of special touches that made it feel on peer with resorts in a higher price tier. The rooms were furnished beautifully and the bathrooms were spacious and lovely. After long days of meetings, I ended up eating at the lobby lounge for two nights and found it to be just what I needed. Good food, nice wine, prompt/attentive service (a rare treat!), and a decent pianist to add ambiance. I would absolutely come back for business or pleasure in the future!

Our management group had a wonderful time at the Belmond in Charleston for their recent meeting. It was so nice to have the Belmond take care of all of our meetings, meals and events and outings. The group had so many good things to say about the atmosphere and the hospitality from everyone at the Belmond. It was a great retreat and meeting time for our group made even more special by all the little details that made the trip memorable. It's nice to plan a trip and know that you don't have to worry about anything. The Belmond is the place to be in Charleston for a great and relaxing time, very special and beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute and would love to plan a trip back there soon.
