Yes, it’s expensive. But I don’t mind paying when it’s worth it, when I feel like I thoroughly enjoyed spending that money. Charleston Place was worth it. My sisters, my daughter and niece recently celebrated milestone birthdays by staying at Charleston Place. And one of the best things, especially these days, was that every employee that we encountered whether it was valet, bell, bar staff, pool staff, Palmetto Cafe staff, were outstanding and I say that based on my experience working for Westin and Marriott. They were professional, kind and went out of their way to be helpful! Examples - the front desk gave us flutes of sparkling wine at check in because we were celebrating birthdays. We had also contemplated doing club level so he let us go visit… ultimately we decided to forgo because of expense and we already had lunch and dinner reservations and we’re not big drinkers… drinkers but not that much. It did look beautiful though. Rooms are outstanding also. Excellent marble bathrooms with walk in shower, lots of drawer space (because we do unpack), good closet space - we did miss the iron - didn’t like steamer. Pool was perfect temperature, staff very attentive and accommodating. We played mahjong at pool bar area and bar staff was very good at keeping us hydrated and drinks quickly delivered! For breakfasts we enjoyed the Palmetto Cafe, a peaceful, beautiful haven in the morning. From the gorgeous Bernardaud China to the outstanding service - yes, it was expensive but again, well worth it. With all that said, I don’t even want to try another hotel in Charleston. This was my parents favorite hotel for many, many years. My sister who just turned 50 was married almost 30 years ago there. I hope the new improvements further amplify their excellent taste.

Locals stopping by for lunch. Chris was a cyt above when it comes to service. He convinced the chef to make an old favorite that wasn’t in the menu (ask him what it was). Great bubbly from Argentina. Free parking makes a big difference. The continuing tenovations make a real improvement. We wish the owners would bring back club membership for locals.

The Thoroughbred Club once again was my happy place. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. It's great for people watching. The cocktails are superb and French fries outstanding. Our bartenders, Chris and Trey, are super, professional and welcoming. My wife and I always try to have a drink and a snack here during our King Street shopping jount. Cris and Trey make our visit special, remembering our names and even my wife's favorite special drink.

Always enjoy the Thoroughbred club but I especially look to stop in when Trey and Keith are working. The epitome of service, professionalism, and they always have a kind word and make me laugh. All the bartenders are terrific but Trey is a remarkable bartender and keeps me coming back!

I traveled with my family (husband, and two children ages 2 and 4) on a Luxury Link auction package to Charleston Place in August. True good service is making travel effortless for the visitor, and Charleston Place delivered. There was no problem in bringing our children. We arrived about an hour before official check-in, but our room was ready and keys were given. Concierge had pre-printed directions to many of the sites. Finally, our Luxury Link credits for spa and dinner was automatically applied at check-out, so the check-out sheet that I received the morning of departure already had the correct amount that needed to be charged. Effortless! The Club floor included an expanded continental buffet breakfast, as well as drinks and finger foods throughout most of the day. This was very convenient and the breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres were particularly extensive. What makes Charleston Place stand out from myriad other places to stay in Charleston - many more historic or quaint or intimate - is the amenities offered. The pool with surrounding deck and kiddie pool is a very pleasant spot. The spa treatments were wonderful and very professional. Dinner at Charleston Grill was our favorite meal of the trip. The flavors were complex and fresh - this is not your typical fried and heavy Southern cuisine. I can see Charleston Place appealing to business travelers, couples needing pampering, families with older children, and yes, families with young children. All in all, a service-oriented hotel in a wonderful location with superior amenities and appealing to many different types of travelers.
