Belmond Charleston Place in Charleston, South Carolina

The South is known for its genteel hospitality, and Belmond Charleston Place is a prime example why. Understated service is ever-present. Under a 12-foot hand-blown Venetian chandelier, a grand open-arm staircase leads to rooms decorated in refined neutrals. Next door, an Art Deco theater restored by the hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and at the Charleston Grill nightly live jazz accompanies a AAA Four-Diamond dinner menu of gourmet Southern classics.

Step out onto your Juliet balcony to watch Charleston wake up. Wander through narrow cobblestoned streets, tripping across eclectic local boutiques and history markers dating from the Civil War. Take a picturesque countryside drive to America’s only tea plantation. After a soul-warming plate of buttery grits and shrimp, snuggle up in a horse-drawn carriage as it ambles on Southern time.

This hotel ranks up there with best! We enjoyed a suite and club level service. Everyone working there was excellent. The room was spotless. Outdoor pool area was nice for working on your tan (and it was hot!) Club level food and drinks were great. Great location to explore and shop. Self parking was convenient and reasonable. Can't wait to go back! Enjoy!

This hotel was very nice but has some drawbacks that really keep it from being great. Pro/cons below. Pro: - rooms are spacious and feel luxurious - location is very central in "historic Charleston" - service was generally good Con: - the rooms are NOT soundproofed at all. You can hear conversations happening in the hallway and I can clearly overhear my neighbors talking on the phone. For a "luxury" hotel I expect better sound proofing and less noise. The problem is clearly that there's too much space between the door and the doorframe for the rooms. Something that's easy to fix with rubber inserts. - the pool deck area is far too tiny for a hotel this size. It's a struggle getting seating outside on the deck unless you're there very early or get lucky. We routinely had to sit at a table waiting for lounge chairs to free up. On our last day I went up to the pool, walked around, saw 4-5 couples waiting for chairs to free up and just went back to my room. The deck area could easily have been made much larger and this was very frustrating. - there's no coffee machine in the room...just weird. - if you're planning to spend a lot of time in the cooler part of Charleston (near the Rarebit, Prohibition, Closed for Business, etc.) I'd also suggest staying farther north on King than this hotel. All in all, a good hotel but I never felt like I was staying in a luxury hotel and the noise and pool issues were big negatives.

The Belmond is a fantastic hotel, situated in the middle of great restaurants, tourist spots, and walking sites. Everything is a short ride away from the center of the city. The rooms were great as well - everything was clean and bright. We did have a mixup with our booking upon checking (be wary when booking through a third party site), and it took some time to right the situation, which eventually had to be escalated through reservations. The staff was kind through it all, but considering the error was made my the staff, the situation took a full day to resolve, and no apologetic gestures were made, I would downgrade the hotel from 5 to 4 stars, for service.

After a long trip this is what I was hoping would represent "Southern hospitality".I was not disappointed. Rooms well maintained but the service was exceptional. The room was serviced twice a day and the attitude of the staff was amongst the best I have experienced world wide. The location perfect and concierge organised excellent tours. Would recommend day trip to Savannah.

This is a extremely nice and very convenient hotel. The hotel rooms are very clean and furnished like you would expect for a top notch hotel. It is located within walking distance to many of the places you want to visit during your Charleston stay. It is also a short walk to many different kinds of restaurants. The staff was very nice and accommodating. If you chose to self park the garage is located very close to the hotel. My only complaint was the pillows flat and not very comfortable. I would advise you to take your own pillow.
