Belmond Charleston Place in Charleston, South Carolina

The South is known for its genteel hospitality, and Belmond Charleston Place is a prime example why. Understated service is ever-present. Under a 12-foot hand-blown Venetian chandelier, a grand open-arm staircase leads to rooms decorated in refined neutrals. Next door, an Art Deco theater restored by the hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and at the Charleston Grill nightly live jazz accompanies a AAA Four-Diamond dinner menu of gourmet Southern classics.

Step out onto your Juliet balcony to watch Charleston wake up. Wander through narrow cobblestoned streets, tripping across eclectic local boutiques and history markers dating from the Civil War. Take a picturesque countryside drive to America’s only tea plantation. After a soul-warming plate of buttery grits and shrimp, snuggle up in a horse-drawn carriage as it ambles on Southern time.

The hotel is beautiful and the location is perfect. You can walk to most attractions except for plantation tours. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is there is no coffee or tea service in the room. You can go down to lobby and get coffee for $2 or $2.25. The service is great though valet parking is little expensive $35/night.

What a great client experience from check in to check out. The employees are highly engaged and greet all guests with a warm smile at all times. The food in the restaurants was exceptional and brunch was outrageous! We hit the spa, the rooftop bar and the restaurant. The updated rooms are magnificent. Highly recommend for a couples weekend or adult getaway.

From the bell staff, front desk, catering, room attendants and to our dedicated superb duo of Janine and Star who made our event seem effortless, I can’t rave enough about how wonderful our stay and meeting was. I’ve hosted many events in my career and by far, working the Belmond Charleston Place team and staying at the property has been a highlight and the smoothest process I’ve experienced. Located in the heart of downtown Charleston, you can't ask for a better spot for meetings, visiting or just relaxing in a great city. Thank you Belmond!

We recently stayed at the Belmond Charleston for three nights. Excellent property. Not only is the location perfect, the hotel is a true 5 star property. Our room was impeccably clean and well appointed. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer.

The Belmond Charleston Place is simply a wonderful hotel and the most convenient location for easily getting around Charleston. The main streets (King, Market, Meeting) border the hotel so you can be at any restaurant, shop, museum or tourist site in a matter of minutes. The rooms are comfortable and beautiful. We loved our chandelier and balcony with french doors. Sometimes we did not even want to leave the room, and often, at the end of the day we did not want to leave the hotel because the restaurants were so good. The Palmetto Cafe is beautiful and the food is fantastic for breakfast and lunch. We ate at the Thoroughbred Club twice (tapas) and had drinks there with friends as well. While not really a downside, I should mention that the valet parking area is really crowded and sometimes there is a back up at check-in and check-out. Also, the housekeeping staff seems to always be in the halls with vacuums, and large shelves of towels and carts. I saw housekeeping more in this hotel than in any hotel I have ever stayed. The hotel has a spa, which we did not use, but the work out area is very nice and the pool and sundeck are also great. The hotel complex has great shops (including Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Kate Spade). This hotel is expensive but it is an extremely enjoyable place to stay.
