Belmond Charleston Place in Charleston, South Carolina

The South is known for its genteel hospitality, and Belmond Charleston Place is a prime example why. Understated service is ever-present. Under a 12-foot hand-blown Venetian chandelier, a grand open-arm staircase leads to rooms decorated in refined neutrals. Next door, an Art Deco theater restored by the hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and at the Charleston Grill nightly live jazz accompanies a AAA Four-Diamond dinner menu of gourmet Southern classics.

Step out onto your Juliet balcony to watch Charleston wake up. Wander through narrow cobblestoned streets, tripping across eclectic local boutiques and history markers dating from the Civil War. Take a picturesque countryside drive to America’s only tea plantation. After a soul-warming plate of buttery grits and shrimp, snuggle up in a horse-drawn carriage as it ambles on Southern time.

On our recent visit to Charleston we stayed at the Belmont Charleston Place. We have stayed here for years and it is a great hotel. We stayed on the Club floor, as usual the employees that work that club were terrific. The choices at each service were very good and you are treated well. We would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Charleston

The Belmond Charleston Place is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. The location is GREAT (it is located in the heart of Charleston's historic district) which makes it easy for you to walk everywhere. The lobby is incredibly beautiful inside, and the room (my friends got a suite) was like a room in a movie!! I will definitely try to visit this hotel again. Great service and friendly staff! We experienced a true Southern Hospitality at this hotel!!

I cannot praise the Belmont too highly we had the most fantastic stay here on their club level. The valet parking was excellent. The location was perfect for the market or for going down to get water the water taxi to the Yorktown where you can go on board or just walk along the experience the magnificent houses of yesterday year.

This was my second stay at the Belmond, and it did not disappoint. Upon entering the lobby, your eye is immediately drawn to the beautiful chandelier that is it's crown jewel. But don't be fooled by the luxurious surroundings, which in many hotels spells snootiness, because their southern hospitality will draw you in and make you feel right at home. From the staff, who are so welcoming, to the spacious and clean accommodations, you will be happy to call the Belmond "Your home away from home." As an added plus, the hotel is centrally located to all the great shopping and amazing restaurants so you can walk to many attractions and take in the sights.

We visited only for one night since we were just driving through. We had reservations at a different hotel however upon arrival we learned they could not accommodate us so they refunded our money and we looked to Belmod Charleston Place for a last minute reservation. Our experience started with valet who found (actually made) a way to accommodate our truck and trailer (we were headed to our cabin). These must be the friendliest valet guys and it is so important since they are actually the first point of contact for the guest and after being tired from traveling, also the most important for efficiency and friendliness and these guys were fantastic. Then we moved to the check-in process which was also friendly and efficient. Everyone was very friendly and seemed to look for opportunities to be helpful. Cannot overstate that. The hotel is very charming with an upscale traditional southern decor, with maybe a French influence. I am not an expert on interior design but there are plenty of photos to give you an idea. There are some very nice small shops and boutiques located right in the lobby. The rooms are well appointed. Great lighting (can be an issue in historical hotels). Robes and slippers. Current room service menus and channel guides (its the little things but you have to admit it is a bummer when it is absent or not current). A quaint Juliet balcony. I did wish for a nicer hair dryer (it was kind of cheesy but that is probably my only negative). Noted there is no coffee in the room (heads up!). Room service was great albeit pricey. From the friendly person who took the order to the friendly person who delivered the food. My husband ordered a steak that was so large he could not finish it (that would be unusual for him, he is a very large man with a very healthy appetite). The hotel is conveniently located downtown in the middle of everything. We had a great experience and plan to return. We would recommend the hotel.
