Belmond Charleston Place in Charleston, South Carolina

The South is known for its genteel hospitality, and Belmond Charleston Place is a prime example why. Understated service is ever-present. Under a 12-foot hand-blown Venetian chandelier, a grand open-arm staircase leads to rooms decorated in refined neutrals. Next door, an Art Deco theater restored by the hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and at the Charleston Grill nightly live jazz accompanies a AAA Four-Diamond dinner menu of gourmet Southern classics.

Step out onto your Juliet balcony to watch Charleston wake up. Wander through narrow cobblestoned streets, tripping across eclectic local boutiques and history markers dating from the Civil War. Take a picturesque countryside drive to America’s only tea plantation. After a soul-warming plate of buttery grits and shrimp, snuggle up in a horse-drawn carriage as it ambles on Southern time.

Checked out a week ago today and have missed the hotel ever since! elegant lobby, fantastic concierge, comfortable suite (2A) with adjoining room (210) for kids. special shout out to Austin from breakfast who provided excellent service to me, my parents and my eight month old (who loved her lightly fried egg). Also appreciate the piano player in Thoroughbred lobby bar who played the theme song from the Disney movie Frozen for my 8 and 10 year old daughters (they thought that was pretty cool). This is THE place to stay in Charleston perfect location to walk to everything you would want to see and do. Only minor drawback was the lack of a bathtub in the suite which was problematic for bathing a baby. For Elegant "Old world charm" with modern conveniences this is the only place to consider. My eight year old summed it up best when we checked in "Dad this is a really beautiful hotel"

I stayed at this hotel several years ago and felt it needed updating. I had read that the hotel underwent major renovations so decided to give it another try. The renovations have been beautifully done and the hotel will once again be my go to when visiting Charleston. Fabulous location with an back door to take you right to King Street. Thank you Charleston Place for a great visit!

Although we have visited Belmond Charleston Place's public rooms many times, this is the first time we actually stayed there. Our family rented four club floor premium rooms. Everyone staff member we encountered was very frie4ndly and helpful. The club level rooms were very comfortable with nice bathrooms and big TVs. The upholstery was surprisingly worn and somewhat stained, especially for these being their premium rooms. The four doors on the armoire clothes closets were a nightmare especially since thet interfered with each other, they also popped open on their own over and over and were located in the entry hall which meant they blocked the room's entry door. You'd close one door and another would open, whack-a-mole style! All four of our room had this problem. The club floor was a great place for our family to meet in at all times of the day. It had quite good and varied food a complete array of non premium bar offerings- all free. One major downside is the bar service staff shills for tips by leaving five dollar bills scattered around the bar as if someone had left them there as a tip. This really sucks! A tip jar would be more honest and less contrived. Better yet the hotel could boost room rate a little, then invoke a no tipping policy which would be more attractive to club level guests.

Amber and Tara were amazing and professional. Iā€™m a fussy travel so when Iā€™m impressed it means so much. I booked on the Club level and it was well worth it! The hotel is clean and luxurious. The rooftop is cute. The views could be better.

We were in awe when entering the room. The decor is exceptional and the staff was tremendously helpful and attentive. One of the nicest hotels we have have the pleasure of staying in on our travels. It is worth the expense, and is walking distance of everything in historical Charleston. Wonderful stay!
