Belmond Charleston Place in Charleston, South Carolina

The South is known for its genteel hospitality, and Belmond Charleston Place is a prime example why. Understated service is ever-present. Under a 12-foot hand-blown Venetian chandelier, a grand open-arm staircase leads to rooms decorated in refined neutrals. Next door, an Art Deco theater restored by the hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and at the Charleston Grill nightly live jazz accompanies a AAA Four-Diamond dinner menu of gourmet Southern classics.

Step out onto your Juliet balcony to watch Charleston wake up. Wander through narrow cobblestoned streets, tripping across eclectic local boutiques and history markers dating from the Civil War. Take a picturesque countryside drive to America’s only tea plantation. After a soul-warming plate of buttery grits and shrimp, snuggle up in a horse-drawn carriage as it ambles on Southern time.

This is a fantastic hotel, wonderful rooms , very well decorated, they take care of all the details (for example they have Occitane products in the bathrooms), they have an excellent service. The hotel is very well located in the center of the historical district (close to the Market) The parking lot is very close. They have some shops in the lobby too.

My husband and I stayed here for four nights. We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. Self parking is located in a city parking garage, beside the hotel and we did have a couple problems. The parking garage arm came down prematurely and hit our vehicle the first day. The staff at the parking garage were not the friendliest. The second day a lady backed into our vehicle while it was parked and left us a note behind. Our trip started off rocky with two police reports. SMH. That being said, my husband and I enjoyed this hotel. We arrived a bit early and they got us right in a room. All of the staff made us feel welcome and appreciated. The location was perfect. We never moved our vehicle once it was parked. Walked to everything we wanted to do. The central location made it convenient to escape the midday heat. Housekeeping was top notch. Our room stayed clean and stocked. We stayed in a King Premier room. Very spacious. The bathroom was filled with marble tiles. The shower featured a rain head shower along with a handheld adjustable shower head. Very relaxing. The makeup mirror was a perfect touch. Loved the bathroom toiletries, that even included a shoe shine sponge and a mending's the little touches that make this place stand out. They even sent us champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, with a personalized card, for our Anniversary. The concierge desk was helpful in giving me information on the different tours and attractions the city had to offer. I have already started recommending this place to family and friends. Hopefully we will be able to stay here again as well. Good memories made, even if it did start off rocky.

I was not kind to this wonderful hotel after my first trip. I am happy to write that during this stay it looked up to all my original expectations and beyond. You cannot find a better location. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Staff is friendly and helpful.

I was in Charleston for a group meeting, and the Belmond was our group hotel. This is a very nice hotel that is in a great location. You walk right out the back door and you are on Meeting street. It is a short walk to the water, and not too far from the wonderful historic homes. The rooms were great, the indoor pool out area outside the pool were great, and the services they provided for our group meetings were great. I definitely recommend staying at this hotel if in Charleston.

This is a beautiful hotel located in the heart of the city. A short walk to the Charleston Visitor Center where the friendliest tourist guides can be found. The hotel staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rooms are very well maintained and the maid service is as good as I have ever encountered. One of the city's main attractions is the market. This is several blocks long and is the marketplace for local vendors to sell their wares. It is located across the street from the hotel. Horse drawn carriage rides are available just two block away and any tour you might want to take is available from the visitor center. There are restaurants, bars and shops within the hotel complex.
