Belmond Charleston Place in Charleston, South Carolina

The South is known for its genteel hospitality, and Belmond Charleston Place is a prime example why. Understated service is ever-present. Under a 12-foot hand-blown Venetian chandelier, a grand open-arm staircase leads to rooms decorated in refined neutrals. Next door, an Art Deco theater restored by the hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and at the Charleston Grill nightly live jazz accompanies a AAA Four-Diamond dinner menu of gourmet Southern classics.

Step out onto your Juliet balcony to watch Charleston wake up. Wander through narrow cobblestoned streets, tripping across eclectic local boutiques and history markers dating from the Civil War. Take a picturesque countryside drive to America’s only tea plantation. After a soul-warming plate of buttery grits and shrimp, snuggle up in a horse-drawn carriage as it ambles on Southern time.

This place deserves more than 5 stars. Even though it was the most expensive place I have ever stayed, it had everything you need to enjoy your stay. Spa, pool, roof top deck, restaurants, and the list goes on. Very hospitable staff that is available for all your needs and request during your stay. Close to all the main downtown attractions and the historic district. Great location for walking to and from most destinations. I hope we get a chance to stay here again.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. We had a minor mechanical issue and Hayley at Front Desk took extra time and care to resolve. Housekeeping keeps guest rooms immaculate. Highly recommend for guests who want a larger luxury hotel with pool, spa and health club.

Hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of the historic district, within walking distance to everything. Beautifully appointed, large rooms, great service, great concierge staff and valet parking easy and efficient. Perfect for a weekend getaway.

Beautiful hotel, great historic district location, and extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great restaurants and bars, especially the one on the rooftop. Very high-end hotel. Expensive--but that is Charleston. Warning: no coffeemaker in room!

Having never stayed at a Belmond Hotel before, I did not know what to expect. Down for a short visit for my wife's birthday, booked the Club Floor through a Jet Blue Getaway. The Club Floor staff was over the top. Robin, and the rest of the staff, made sure that your stay in the public area of the Club Floor was over the top. The daily breakfast spread was phenomenal. Lunch snacks, afternoon tea, and then a appetizer spread, desserts, wine and beer and top shelf liquor. The space, with a spiral staircase connecting the two club floors, 7 and 8, is roomy and a great place to meet other guests. The Hotel is excellent and for special occasions, the hotel and the Charleston Grill pull out the stops. Champagne and Chocolate Strawberries, a cake, dessert in the restaurant. The Concierge made dinner reservations and offered a number of choices. Rob and Leanne handled our visit, much of the dinners planned before we arrived. Amber and the Front Desk did all they could to assist you. Being in the center of the historic district, balconies are available on the lower floors and the view from the Club Floors are not panoramic. If you want a room with a tub, ask in advance. There is a spa and an indoor outdoor pool on the fourth floor but we were so busy never used. Great place-will be going back.
