Disappointing Return to What Was Once a Special Place

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I’ve been to this hotel multiple times, unfortunately, this will be our last. Check-In Confusion Check-in was chaotic and poorly explained. I was asked to swipe my card twice without clarification. The front desk agent failed to mention any amenities, and initial denied our rooms included hotel credits and free breakfasts. Only after returning to the reception area and pushing did I get confirmation that we did, in fact, have hotel credit and free breakfasts. Valet Service = Wasted Time & Money Valet was consistently understaffed. Each time we needed the car, it took 20–30 minutes. Once, I left the car with keys and a valet ticket in plain sight. I returned 30 minutes later — the car hadn't moved and no valet in sight. Completely unacceptable. Dining Frustrations We tried the basement restaurant at 6 PM — they were "too busy" to seat us. At the patio bar, we waited 40 minutes to place an order (including moving indoors due to rain) and another 20 to be asked to repeat the whole thing — because the original waiter hadn’t entered it. Instead of being honest, the second server lied to cover it up, asking us to “confirm” our order. The service was unprofessional, and the meal wasn’t worth the time or money. Housekeeping Inconsistencies Housekeeping left dirty glasses, old welcome food sat for days, and towel counts varied daily. Robes were removed and never replaced despite repeated calls and promises they were on their way. No one ever followed up. Poor Communication The in-room phones don’t list how to contact housekeeping or the front desk — baffling for a hotel of this caliber. Breakfast Buffet Chaos Included buffet was unhygienic — kids were handling food with their hands and no staff intervened. My husband skipped breakfast after seeing it. We were charged the first day (despite it being included) and not the second. Inconsistency was the only consistent theme. Concierge Indifference The concierge was clearly more interested in flirting than helping. When asked about fjord tours, he feigned ignorance, then gave vague driving directions. No recommendations, no brochures, no effort. This was meant to be a special trip for our nephew’s first international vacation. Instead, it was filled with frustration, lackluster service, and clear understaffing. This hotel has gone from memorable to mediocre. Sadly, we won’t be returning.

Stunning Location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

The Le Manoir Richelieu is about 2 hours drive from Quebec City but upon arrival you will be greeted by stunning views as the hotel sits right on the St Lawrence River. No issues with checking in or out. The rooms were pleasant and clean. Highly recommend breakfast in the Le Bellerive restaurant, especially the crepes.

Nice getaway!

Celebrating our wedding anniversary, we stayed attending Manoir Richelieu . The establishment is very clean , the grounds are well manicured. There is an outstanding golf course close by. We found lots of pathways to walk around. Our room was clean and small . The bed was very comfy and pillows fluffy however I expected it to be more stunning .The restaurants are very pricey. The pool area is nice . The gym was adequate.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful location

Stayed here for a few days on business, in March. There was still snow on the ground, which added to the spectacular location. The hotel is situated on the shore of the St Lawrence River and the views across here were amazing. One morning, there was a huge ice flow floating down river at sunrise, which was spectacular. The hotel feels like an old, traditional luxury property, with the charm and service to match. I had a corner room, which was huge. Whilst not the most modern, it was in keeping with the age and style of the hotel and was very comfortable and immaculately clean. The corner room provided great views on two aspects. Food and drinks in the main lobby bar were very good - fresh, tasty and good size portions. The staff here were brilliant - great service, very friendly and professional. The breakfast in the main restaurant was superb, with a huge choice of hot and cold and an egg station. Again, the staff and service here was always top notch. There are some shops and a nice coffee restaurant/cafe on the lowered level and although the coffee shop is small, it does serve great coffee and nice snacks, cookies and cakes. The staff here were also brilliant and we're always amused, and helped me out when I tried to order in my best French, just for practice! Decent size gym, with all of the equipment you need for a good workout, from cardio machines, to weight machines and free weights. Great spa and also an awesome, heated outdoor pool area which was fantastic on the cold afternoons, surrounded by snow! Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to sample all restaurants and amenities, but those I did experience were all excellent and I had zero complaints and would not hesitate to recommend.

Sad .. badly needs an upgrade

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Whilst we were aware this is a very old hotel there is a huge difference between “old and elegant” and “old faded jaded and sad “ .. and I’m afraid this hotel falls into the latter category. It’s actually crying out for a multi million pound makeover! Nothing about this hotel says 5 star. The first room we were given the heating didn’t work, there was a broken lamp & broken blind - they brought us a fan heater but when we plugged that in together with the kettle all the electricity went. They kindly change the room for us. I must say that the staff is wonderful and a special mention must go to Pauline in guest services, Liliana and Augustin .. the service they provided was above and beyond. Creased bath robes that look like they’d been worn by someone else and no slippers.
