Shanti Maurice, A Nira Resort in Chemin Grenier, Mauritius

In a destination as dreamy as they come, Shanti Maurice, A Nira Resort makes the island of Mauritius even more enchanting. The property itself is 36 acres, situated between sugarcane fields and powder-soft white sand beach, with the brilliant blue waters of the Indian Ocean stretching as far as the eye can see. In a place as sublime and exotic as this, Shanti Maurice is a perfect haven, providing the kind of quality and comfort that such a spectacular vacation deserves. When it comes to your accommodations, there are no rooms here - only suites and villas, of course, and every one is magazine-spread worthy. All face the ocean, with floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors to bring the bright outdoors in. Furthering the integration with nature, large balconies or patios and stone-lined outdoor rain showers add elements of pleasure and ideal places to relax in peace and private. Despite your far-flung locale, you will be ever still connected with internet access, DVD players, and high definition televisions throughout. Whether you choose to shut off connection to the outside world, or relish in some free time and entertainment, Shanti Maurice is ready to help you do it all in style.

Ready to really delve into this exotic island vacation? Try a truly sensual experience at Nira Spa, where ancient Ayurvedic practices are fused with contemporary techniques to provide indulgent body treatments, ultra unwinding massages, and unique spa rituals. Being that Mauritius is such a paradise for the senses, it is only fitting that the culinary offerings at Shanti Maurice are one of the resort's most outstanding features. Food lovers will find a variety of unique flavors and aromas, but the true soul of Mauritius can best be found in the old fashioned home cooking, which Shanti Maurice brings you directly with its genuine Grandma's Kitchen experience. Relish in authentic mealtime around a communal table, as you have the opportunity to visit the local home of one of the resort's own team members, and enjoy an authentic family meal prepared for your enjoyment by the all-important matriarch of the household - Grandma herself. Then there is the Fish and Rhum Shack, a beachside barbecue experience that lends local culture to guests, where the freshest fish, vegetables, and more are enjoyed by lantern light, plus rum from a nearby distillery. A more traditional dining experience can be had at Stars, which offers a refined dinner menu and ocean views, and Pebbles, with everything from salads to pastries. The leisure and activity options at Shanti Maurice are equally robust, from the nearby golf course to tennis, water sports and more. Explore the island on an excursion, or simply stay put in the sun and sand. When you are at Shanti Maurice, A Nira Resort, time and place is all about you.

We spent 4 nights at Shanti Maurice August 2017. Lovely property with nice rooms with sea view and a huge bathroom including outdoor shower. The staff was extremely friendly going the extra mile for truly personal service. Guest relations manager Reana was outstanding, she has the ability to give people the feeling that everything is handled and there is not a single thing to worry about. And Rolo, the guy at the boat house, is really an expert and knows how to handle the interest of the guests and combine it with the (fragile) nature. For example, he took care that people were not snorkeling the house reef during low tide as they could easily break the corals which are only centimeters below the surface at low tide. He organized a lovely trip to swim with dolphins and see whales. Luckily, I got even the chance to snorkel with a 12 meter whale and her calf during that trip (I even got it on camera!! :-)) Only small recommendation on a high level: the food was very good - as expected from an international 5* hotel. However, we spent a few nights at different 5* property (Long Beach hotel, extremely windy in August!) and they had more creative creations and a wider selection on the menu there. To be fair, the other hotel was bigger (and more crowded) and, hence, had dedicated restaurants, e.g an outstanding Japanese restaurant. But the Shanti Maurice could at least try to go off the beaten path and bring some more elements of e.g. the creative French cuisine - or at least some Sushi ;-) Overall, a hotel I can HIGHLY recommend, even during winter.

What a truly wonderful place this is. I was lucky enough to stay here back in May, and was instantly wowed by the beauty and tranquility of this resort, and its' fantastic staff. Check in was painless, and my luggage was delivered to my room before I arrived. The food was excellent here, highly recommend the Mappas dish at Stars restaurant and the Palm Heart salad, and make sure you pay a visit to the Rhum Shed, a gorgeous gourmet barbecue in a totally original and relaxed setting. The Nira Spa is a must visit, with en excellent selection of treatments, I had a Shanti fusion massage and fell asleep on the table, it was so great. The best thing about this resort is how luxurious it is, whilst having a relaxed and not stuffy feel, you do not compromise on service or quality, but you can still enjoy an easygoing feel. Thank you for a wonderful stay Shanti Maurice!

Shanti Maurice is a beautiful small hotel nestled around a secluded bay with real 5-star standards. We were lucky enough to experience a 2-bedroom villa - which has a stunning view on the ocean with crashing waves (but no beach) - as well as the beachfront rooms which were our favorites. Serene setting, as no motor boots in the bay, great beach and lovely water (beware of corals and sea urchins). We used canoes, SUP and snorkeling gear for some fun water tours. Overall service was very good, as you experience this genuine service mentality with proud people who enjoy pampering you and making your stay a special one. Food was top notch, with a great main restaurant and 2 special atmosphere ones in Rum Shed and Caze Mama. Any special wishes were gladly taken on board (veg. or even vegan in our case). Spacious Spa with free Yoga sessions, good gym and a lovely library make for great distractions. Putting green was not for golf freaks, but you have free golf at the nice Avalon 18-hole course. A cool kids club is also there, but we only used it once. And for bad weather you have a fantastic DVD online-library in the room with all the latest movies in many languages! Great stay...we would come again any day.

Our experience was amazing, right from stepping into the property till we left. Staff was courteous & attentive. We booked Junior Suite Beach Front and it had all the facilities. View from the room was really breath taking esp during sunset. Private Beach was well maintained and looked natural. Spa facilities were great. Food was delicious and the folks in restaurant take care of smallest request.
