Shanti Maurice, A Nira Resort in Chemin Grenier, Mauritius

In a destination as dreamy as they come, Shanti Maurice, A Nira Resort makes the island of Mauritius even more enchanting. The property itself is 36 acres, situated between sugarcane fields and powder-soft white sand beach, with the brilliant blue waters of the Indian Ocean stretching as far as the eye can see. In a place as sublime and exotic as this, Shanti Maurice is a perfect haven, providing the kind of quality and comfort that such a spectacular vacation deserves. When it comes to your accommodations, there are no rooms here - only suites and villas, of course, and every one is magazine-spread worthy. All face the ocean, with floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors to bring the bright outdoors in. Furthering the integration with nature, large balconies or patios and stone-lined outdoor rain showers add elements of pleasure and ideal places to relax in peace and private. Despite your far-flung locale, you will be ever still connected with internet access, DVD players, and high definition televisions throughout. Whether you choose to shut off connection to the outside world, or relish in some free time and entertainment, Shanti Maurice is ready to help you do it all in style.

Ready to really delve into this exotic island vacation? Try a truly sensual experience at Nira Spa, where ancient Ayurvedic practices are fused with contemporary techniques to provide indulgent body treatments, ultra unwinding massages, and unique spa rituals. Being that Mauritius is such a paradise for the senses, it is only fitting that the culinary offerings at Shanti Maurice are one of the resort's most outstanding features. Food lovers will find a variety of unique flavors and aromas, but the true soul of Mauritius can best be found in the old fashioned home cooking, which Shanti Maurice brings you directly with its genuine Grandma's Kitchen experience. Relish in authentic mealtime around a communal table, as you have the opportunity to visit the local home of one of the resort's own team members, and enjoy an authentic family meal prepared for your enjoyment by the all-important matriarch of the household - Grandma herself. Then there is the Fish and Rhum Shack, a beachside barbecue experience that lends local culture to guests, where the freshest fish, vegetables, and more are enjoyed by lantern light, plus rum from a nearby distillery. A more traditional dining experience can be had at Stars, which offers a refined dinner menu and ocean views, and Pebbles, with everything from salads to pastries. The leisure and activity options at Shanti Maurice are equally robust, from the nearby golf course to tennis, water sports and more. Explore the island on an excursion, or simply stay put in the sun and sand. When you are at Shanti Maurice, A Nira Resort, time and place is all about you.

We stayed here for Christmas and what a way to spend it - the place is just stunning. I stayed with my fianc├ę (he proposed on this holiday) and 3 year old. We were upgraded to a Villa (thanks Melona!) and oh my word...it was out of this world! Because the Villa's come with a private pool, my daughter was super excited as the only place she wanted to be was in the water. And it meant we could still chill on the sun loungers next to the pool and watch her at the same time. The room was very spacious and clean, bath, separate shower and toilet....and an outside shower! They really did design these Villa's well, huge amounts of privacy - high walls and lots of greenery! The Christmas eve reception at sunset was beautiful and Father Christmas was there with a choir and presents for the children. The swimming pool and beach area are equally beautiful, clean and private.. The reason I didnt give the 5 stars was because the service is slow in the dining areas and food was not always good. We ordered room service a couple times, it took nearly an hour to come and food was luke warm and chips dried out. However I can honesltly say if this area was looked at by the management, the place would be on top form again. We have made enquiries to have our wedding here as we loved it that much and I am confident the dining experiences will improve. Would not hesitate to come back...you will have a fabulous time if you are looking for copiuos amounts of rest and relaxation!

Fantastic place to stay with a baby (but also as family or couple). The place is well located, relatively small and greatly managed. Rooms are spacious with direct access to the beach. The staff is absolutely great (Melana, Leena, Vishal, Kavish, Jean-Fran├žois... the whole team !), amazing with children, dedicated, polite and super helpful. The food is really good, restaurants are nicely decorated, and the cook team can prepare fresh food everyday for babies ;D We highly recommend Shanti Maurice to anyone who is travelling to Mauritius.

We were here for our honeymoon or 5 days in December 2017 and had a great experience. The place is located very well and has a huge stretch of its own private beach. Our suite had beach access which was awesome. Melana at the reception was very kind and gifted us some honeymoon freebies at the Spa, which is again top notch. They serve a variety of cuisines across their multiple restaurants and the Indian chef at the Stars restaurant is excellent. Some of the Indian dishes that we ordered were more perfectly made than you would get in fine restaurants in India. We tried all the restaurants but ended up dining in Stars more often as it served variety of cuisines. The staff is very polite and humble. We also spent the Christmas eve there and I have to say that I had some of the best cakes I have ever had. I would recommend Shanti Maurice to anyone who is travelling to Mauritius.

Expectations/prices not commensurate with reality, would not return or recommend for families (probably good for honeymooners and couples on all inclusive packages) Positives: -lovely staff, shoutout to Khunkhun, nice kayak selection and friendly beach staff -breathtaking property with very dedicated groundskeeping staff -secluded beach, lots of privacy because the property is so big -spacious suite -excellent breakfast buffet -Lakaz mama indian buffet had very nice kitchen staff -no mosquitos Why we wouldn't return or recommend: -not good for families - though "on paper" it has a kids club, the kids club is actually located far away from the main facilities (10 min walk, more if your kids are slow), the kids pool is there (far away from the beach), there is no kids pool in the main area, there are no pool toys or noodles provided in the main pool area, there is no diaper changing facility or even trash can in the pool bathroom (only a basket for the used hand towels). 15 euro room service fee on any order (prices are already eye watering!). Because it's such a big resort everything felt far for our toddlers (yes, there are golfcarts to get around but you have to request them and they aren't always available). -bugs, bugs, bugs - no mosquitos, but lots of flies and ants - we hated eating at Stars restaurant because of the flies. Every meal was a battle. We tried sitting outside, we tried sitting inside, staff provided extra oil candles, but because there are no completely closed areas it was impossible. Our two toddlers were also easy targets because they eat slowly. I just started covering the plates with napkins, which is an absolutely ridiculous thing to have to do at a fancy restaurant charging those prices (the main dishes START at around 30 euros!), not a fish shack. We also couldn't eat inside our suite because we would be invaded with ants anytime a crumb dropped - I knew something was up when I noticed the bugspray that was provided in the bathroom. -we arranged for airport transfer through the hotel so they knew our arrival time and I didn't think I had to specifically request early check in (we must have arrived before 12 and check in is normally 2 pm), but because I didn't, our room wasn't ready. Fine, it happens - but they kept telling us different stories, first "soon" so they had us wait at the bar area, then they said it would be "an hour" and they had us go to the spa to wait but the spa lounge area wasn't open so they had us go back to the main dining area and suggested we eat while waiting. In the end it took nearly two hours, we were (and our tired, jetlagged toddlers) felt like we were dragged all over the property for no reason, and they didn't even comp our lunch or offer us drinks at lunch or anything! This set the tone for the rest of our stay. -usually had to request things multiple times - when we checked in there were no nespresso capsules, had to ask 4 times for them over the course of the day before they were actually provided. Had to ask for extra towels nearly every day. Housekeeping would take away our towels and not replace them. We were provided with a lovely fruit basket upon check in with housekeeping inexplicably removed later (before we had finished it, the fruit was still good) and never replaced. Shower was clogged and overflowed the first time we used it (they poured two bottles of draino down to fix it after we complained, thanks). Just lots of small little gripes that on their own wouldn't be a big deal but all together were disappointing. -not a lot of choice in dining - yes there are like "four" "restaurants" but they are not all open on the same days (because they share the same staff!) and a few are subject to weather/rain - and if you are not on the all inclusive be prepared for eye watering prices. Beach / pool side food & drink service closes at 17h30!!!! And very slow - on one day I put out the flag for service at 17h and no one ever came. We could not wait to leave, which is really sad given the price we were paying per night.

If you are going to Mauritius Shanti Maurice Resort & Spa is recommended. It is located in a quiet place in Mauritius. Beautiful beach, clean and relaxing place with everything you need - eaven a golf course. I was solo for one day only, on my stop to the airport. But this is not the place to be solo.
