The James Chicago is the definition of Service. Excellent service from the staff outside the door, the front desk, the concierge, the bartenders, and house keeping. If you're new to Chicago, Tim Samples, Chef Concierge can point you in the right direction toward great food, great fun. great culture. Centrally located steps from Michigan Ave, The James puts you in the center of the action. Close to the River Walk, the L, shopping & fantastic restaurants. I recommend at least 1 lunch or dinner at Quartino just steps from The James front door.

I walked into my room and found a projection TV in the adjacent sitting area... very cool! Also, I'm not a drinker, but if I was the liquor selection seemed to be above expectations. I will be coming back to the James Chicago, full of unexpected touches and a great location.

By far my favorite Hotel to stay while I am in Chicago! The Hotel is Spot On with Friendly and Professional Staff, nice clean rooms, great room amenities and a great Restaurant with really great Breakfasts! The Lounge area is a nice place for a Glass of Wine to wind down too.

First of all, the location of the James is excellent. Right in the heart of so many restaurants and bars and just a block off of Michigan Avenue. The staff was welcoming and really friendly. We used Park Whiz and were able to park steps away from the James at a great price. My biggest complaint was the room itself. The cost of our one night was around $300 for a room with city views on an upper floor. I had stayed at the James before on several occasions, and that was why I wanted to come back there for my 40th birthday. I was a little disappointed at the slightly run down quality of the room. It was pretty small and seemed a bit dingy. Nothing that I would have called the front desk about, but definitely made me wish I had considered someplace else for the money I'd spent. There was a fixture on the wall that was broken and hanging down, there was no stand for our luggage and the bathroom had a big chunk taken out of the porcelain of the sink. Our "city view" room was overlooking a building with giant ventilation machines on the roof. On the plus side, the wet bar and snack bar was stocked well if overpriced (but that's a downtown hotel for you), the toiletries that were offered were very good, the one robe we had was comfy, and the bed was very comfortable. Room service had very good food for breakfast and for what you'd expect to spend on room service in the city. The biggest plus here is that they do have decent rates if you don't opt for a nicer room like we did. We just felt that upgrading our room to something nicer didn't actually get us anything nicer. I would call our room definitely worth the normal standard rate. I'm not sure I would stay here again. The location can't be beat but for the value, I'd probably opt for something different for my money.
