The James Chicago is a welcoming, comfortable & centrally located hotel. I hope to have the opportunity to stay there again. The atmosphere was modern yet warm. From the moment I was greeted I felt at home. The bellhop and desk clerk were wonderful. This is a great place to stay for any Chicago visit.

Is amazing. The rooms was a decent size and well appointed. Comfortable beds and pillows. Cocktail hour in the lobby each afternoon with wine and cheese. Nice bar and fancy steakhouse in premise. Easy walk to Magnificent Mile. Fantastic staff. Helped us with directions, rides and show tickets.

I have stayed here twice a year for the past 7+ years when I come to Chicago for work. I love the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, the location of the hotel and the value added perks of the rooms.

My husband and I utilized a Groupon deal and spent a night at the James. We had booked a king size room, but were initially given a queen. We got switched after we went back down to the desk, to a room with both a queen and a king. The king size bed was kind of crammed into a small room with no t.v. but with an overhead projector. We assumed you could hook up your own electronic device to the projector or play a dvd, neither or which we were prepared to do or desired to do, or watch a fake fireplace on your wall. We ended up sleeping in the queen bed where we could see the t.v. There had been obvious attempts to renovate and update the room, but still there was some pretty old looking furnishings. There was a rather strange beaded curtain, and the queen bedroom sat up on a platform so one had to be careful to remember that when leaving that area of the room. Lovely extremely high-priced items for sale in the room - would make more sense to hop across the street to Trader Joe's and get what you want and have a better selection. Breakfast was available in the hotel but at added cost. Couch in room should be tossed out - most uncomfortable thing ever!

The James is great for a weekend stay. It's priced very well. It's centrally located. You can easily walk to the river and lake in like 10 minutes. There is a Trader Joe's directly across the street if you want to stock up on wine and snacks. The front desk was super helpful. I arrived at 9AM and they let me check in early. The concierge, Tim Samples, was amazing. He knows everything. He got me a reservation to curling at the Gwen hotel rooftop when it was completely booked up. The gym was big and clean and had all the proper equipment for an intense workout. I like how there was coffee and muffins every morning and during happy hour, there was free white and red wine with snacks. The only annoying thing is the $14.95 daily facility fee but overall I would stay here again.
