Reviews for Kinzie Hotel

Disappointed with the lack of clarity about additional service charges

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My stay at the Kinzie was booked through an employer travel agent. The hotel was fine and I thought the breakfast included in the price was a bonus and the fitness facilities were good. However, the breakfast was entirely plastic packaging (even the glasses for juice, the cups for tea/coffee, and all the cutlery), as someone travelling from overseas this level of disposable waste seemed entirely avoidable to me and not good for the environment. However, the real problem was the shady rates the hotel charged my credit card. I was told on check in there would be a $100 deposit and a $27.45 'resort' fee, which was non-refundable, as per the 'booking terms'. I thought this was annoying but was not such a big sum of money that it was worth questioning further, so I had resigned myself to pay it. However, on receiving my credit card statement, I found that this was actually a nightly charge and I had been charged an additional $110 for my stay for these 'night service charges'. I see that even on this trip advisor page there is no indication of this 'night service' charge in the additional information. And on the business travel agent my company used, this was not visible anywhere on the booking page or on the information I received from the hotel. I was also annoyed that the member of staff who checked me in at no point in the exchange said this was a nightly rate, instead giving me the impression that this was for the whole trip. If I had known a $400 deposit would be taken, I would have considered giving an alternative card to ensure I had enough funds to prevent exceeding my limit. I also was not given the option of seeing my invoice on check-out, so I have only seen the charges applied to my stay through my credit card bill a month later. This is really poor service and shows that the nice extras like breakfast and the fitness facilities were not inclusive. I will never be staying at this hotel again when I return to Chicago for future trips.

Really great stay!! Very classy and ideal location!

Checking in was easy. Anderson was very helpful, friendly and every time I walked by him, I had to fill him in on my day. My room was gorgeous. It had a nice king size bed, and the view looked more downtown feel, big skyscrapers, facing brick buildings, etc. You can't beat this location! If you walk a few blocks north, you're at the Magnificent Mile a few block south, you're at Marshall Fields (I refuse to acknowledge that it's Macy's) And there's GREAT bars and restaurants within a block radius. I recommend Ramen San, and it's serving food late! Every time you turn the light on in the bathroom, it makes this noise that I discovered later was the ventilation system opening. It's fine. Love those double shower heads! Love the mini fridge and the safe. Great internet signal. The elevators are key card operated and if you're going to any floor except one, you need the use it. I LOVED the breakfast every morning. They had many breads, cereals, fruit, breakfast sandwiches, and waffle irons. It's on the 6th floor. And of course I LOVED the manager's reception (AKA happy hour) also on the 6th floor. They have beer and wine and little snacks. As you can tell, I LOVED staying here. It's very walkable and you can't beat the location. Can't wait to stay here again.

Overpriced/Overcharged

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The hotel overcharged my credit card. I have been told it will be corrected and it has not. The staff and management are rude, dishonest and will not help you. They will charge your card whatever they want, promise to refund it and it will never be done. With all the exceptional options in Chicago do not waste your time or money with this hotel.
