Amazing Staff, Welcoming, Accommodating

My experience from the Royal Sonesta River North was outstanding. I specifically want to shout out Gabby and Antwonne. Gabby took great care of us as soon as I arrived helping us get settled in right away. We came from an early flight at 530AM and Gabby helped us get checked in as soon as the next available room was ready. I really appreciated her for this as we really needed the extra time to get rest, freshen up, and get ready for our night activities. On the other hand, Antwonne welcomed and gave extra care to us. He was great conversation, told us a bit about the weather and how to prepare for it. He also looks out for all the guests making sure they feel welcomed and taken care of.

Great

Everything was wonderful. Few things I was disappointed with, but didnt affect my rating: the towels were a little rough, the soap/shampoo was not great, and no fridge in the room. Still was happy and will go back.

Clean hotel, but pretty noisy on the lower floors

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Lots of info was given at check-in, I wish it was all on a piece of paper or a QR code for future reference during my stay. (I was tired from our four-hour drive, so I didn't absorb much of that info.) Noise travels through/under doors from the hallway, (some people are just loud in the hallways). Two free bottles of water in room, if you are a member of their hotel points/club. Hotel text requests (love that I could text vs talk to someone on the phone) were answered mostly promptly and items (two luggage racks) were delivered quickly. The hotel was not filled with many children. Heavy sliding barn door to the bathroom; I know my older mother would have a problem with it( although it worked fine for us.) On the 11th floor, we did hear street noise from loud cars and fire trucks. The fire department was about 1 1/2 blocks away, and heard a fire truck at least every other hour. (Granted, this is a large city, there are fire departments all over the place.) If you want to lessen this noise, I would suggest a higher floor and perhaps not facing Illinois Street. It felt like that was their street to head east and that was fire district. Cologne/Perfume smell when entering the lobby. Some may like this, but I did not - but granted any city can have an unpleasant smell, so maybe the hotel was trying to mask that smell in their hotel? It smelled like men's cologne and I'm not a fan of those types of scents. Luckily, it did not give me a headache. This hotel is near bus lines and the Red Line. The only issue I had with the hotel is when I asked how we could take a bus to the art museum, the front desk person had no idea. We eventually figured out the Chicago transit system on our own, but it would have been nice to have frequently visited spots and how to get there via public transit near the hotel. All she had to say, was go across the street, pick up bus XX heading east, get off at XX stop, and walk 2 blocks east. The hotel was very clean. The best part of this hotel was the ability to select and pay for early check-in and late check-out when reserving the hotel online at their website.
