Rip off Afternoon tea package at The Lobby in Chicago !

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Afternoon Tea at Lobby , Peninsula Hotel Chicago : Worst experience ! $190 per person , it was a total rip off !! After taking the payments and during the ordering , server notified to us that some of the items will be substituted ! And still did not serve the substitution items Poor service ! How can one forget to serve warm scones in afternoon / high tea !!! That is hallmark of this meal concept! Mini Desserts were dry , not fresh :( In short , avoid this restaurant all together !!!

Wonderful stay !

For me the question is not should I give this hotel 5 stars, it’s how may I give it 10 stars! The restaurant is amazing. Food is great. Service is superb! Rooms are amazingly comfortable. The challenge is not wanting to get out of the super comfortable bed to start the day. Location is great . The aesthetics of the actual interior of the building is amazing !! The staff are friendly and incredibly helpful. I would come back to Chicago to stay here !

Lives up to the hype!

What an amazing hotel. My mom and I stayed here last weekend while I attended the restaurant show. Rooms were beautiful and extremely well appointed. The Peninsula has thought of EVERYTHING- from an in room printer/fax machine to a drawer stocked with all the essentials for working (stapler, highlighter etc.), dedicated space for your luggage etc. A great deal of thought and care went into designing the rooms and it shows. Also, how can you beat watching tv while in the bathtub. While there is some road noise at night, we did not experience any hotel noise. The in room tech ranging from the digital light controls and in room tablets that allowed you to control everything was cool! We had some issues with some of the outlets not working and a few being loose which was promptly addressed when brought to the hotel’s attention. Everyone at the hotel was extremely friendly and provided wonderful service. The pool area could use a bit of an upgrade but it’s nice they even have one. The Four Seasons pool has them beat, although it far exceeds the Ritz Carlton’s. I haven’t been to the Langham but supposedly they also have a nice indoor pool area. However, it was clean and well maintained. The outdoor deck was on the smaller side, but had beautiful furniture and sunblock. I’d imagine it would be great on a beautiful day. The spa looked stunning, I hope to return one day. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast at the lobby. Both meals were delicious and enjoyed in an elegant environment. If you’re bringing a vehicle I highly recommend booking their breakfast and parking package- it was of great value. Of course you cannot beat the location for walking and seeing all that Chicago has to offer!

Amazing hotel that provides a great experience for a variety of guests.

My husband and stayed for one night and booked through Amex to use the FHR benefits. Checkin was efficient and pleasant (with early checkin and late checkout), and we were upgraded to a larger room. They gave us a detailed sheet outlining the FHR benefits, which is appreciated when you make the choice to book a stay with Amex and not directly with the hotel. The hotel has a glamorous yet peaceful ambiance, and can really cater to whatever experience you are looking for-relaxing, fun, night out, romantic, business, solo, family, etc. Although we were close to many great dining options, we only ventured out once and spent the rest of our time at the hotel. We enjoyed the rooftop bar twice and had a late dinner at shanghai terrace, plus room service for breakfast. The food was excellent as well as the service. I’ve had many friends tell me the hotel is worth every penny, and now I can attest to that as well. We can’t wait to come again with our kids and enjoy the family experience.

Classy Stay

The service and attention to details is just spectacular; without any arrogance. Just classy elegance. Starting at the motor lobby, Bell and Front Desk, it’s a great experience. Equally impressive the service and quality at the Z Bar and Shanghai Terrace restaurant. We will go back many times.
