Reviews for The Whitehall Hotel

A wonderful hotel in very sorry shape

The iconic Whitehall Hotel has fallen apart. The location of this hotel is so convenient and always has been one of my favorites. If this property if considered one of BW's Premier Collection hotels, I would stay away from them.

HORRIBLE HOTEL

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Location was good. Everything else, horrible. No where near value for money, sleeping on the streets outside has the potential to be just as good. Shower did not work properly, and had the water pressure of a leaky pipe. Shower was falling apart and required multiple unusual steps to use. When reception was called about this, the staff member that answered was passive aggressive, began yelling at me, despite my patience, and then hung up. Stains on the bed and on the towels, as well as the cupboard doors not closing. Marks all over the walls and some mould. When we arrived, our allocated room was already occupied, which was a major inconvenience. The breakfast cost them $10 maximum and consisted of 4 cereals and bread. This is no where near good enough for a 4 star hotel, as many 3 star hotels surpass this. DO NOT stay here.

Great first time stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We chose this hotel based on location and it didn't disappoint. Perfect location for our needs and the staff was amazing. Bringing up ice, bottled water and a microwave within minutes of our request was 100% appreciated after a long hot day. Everyone was incredibly friendly and we would definitely stay here again.

Thank you Cheryl!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

From the moment we walked into The Whitehall Hotel, our experience was elevated by an incredible team member named Cheryl. We arrived a little early, and instead of simply acknowledging us, Cheryl greeted us with the warmest, most genuine smile. That welcoming spirit immediately invited us over, and she graciously checked us in. Her kindness, patience, and professionalism made us feel valued from the very first moment. After getting settled into our room, we quickly realized it was extremely hot, and to our dismay, the air conditioning wasn’t working. We went back downstairs to let Cheryl know, and without hesitation, she immediately began working to accommodate us with another room that had properly functioning air conditioning. Through it all, she never lost her smile. Her consistency, genuine care, and unwavering professionalism made what could have been a frustrating situation feel effortless. Cheryl is warm, nurturing, accommodating, and truly has the gift of hospitality. She brings so much life and positive energy to a hotel with more than 80 years of history. People like Cheryl are what guests remember long after their stay is over. As a manager of a luxury residential building in Hollywood, California, I understand how much exceptional customer service matters. The smallest gestures often make the biggest impact, and Cheryl exemplifies what outstanding hospitality should look like. Her kindness did not go unnoticed, and meeting her has already made our stay that much more memorable. Thank you, Cheryl, for reminding us that true hospitality isn’t just about checking guests in—it’s about making people feel seen, cared for, and genuinely welcome. Your consistency, grace, and beautiful spirit are a true asset to The Whitehall Hotel.

Great Staff, Great Location, Great Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Amazing location with great access to both CTA bus and rail. Historic hotel, but rooms are clean, well appointed and comfortable. We were there during a heat wave and the air conditioning did a great job of keeping the room cool. Breakfast spread is super convenient and has a surprising amount of variety. Staff was incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to give us a great stay. Great value for a hotel in any city (never mind the heart of Chicago!).

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at The Whitehall Hotel in March. The property is lovely with an Old World charm, and the food is wonderful. We were treated well by every employee, from the desk clerks to the waiters. We have already booked another weekend and cannot wait to return!.
