Reviews for The Whitehall Hotel
Check in easy, staff friendly, accommodating, room clean, complimentary coffee and tea, ice delivered on request. Energetic staff always willing to lend a hand. Convenient to Magnificent Mile, John Hancock Tower Tilt experience, Hop on/off bus at Water Tower and restaurants. Recommend Lou Malnati’s Pizza for delicious Italian and Wildberry for breakfast, Sprinkles for the cupcake ATM, all within walking distance. This hotel is convenient to CTA Red line “Chicago” stop. We drove from Ohio, checked in, took our car to Midway airport for the best parking rate and took the EL orange line back to town, rode the EL during our 5-day stay. Also recommend Ann Sather’s for breakfast, Batter and Berries for breakfast/brunch.
We celebrated our anniversary with an overnight trip to Chicago and needed a budget friendly place to stay! We absolutely loved The Whitehall! The room was beautiful, well-appointed, and super clean. The staff was extremely friendly. The location is great for shopping—walk to Water Tower Place and the 900 N Michigan shops (Bloomingdales, Tesla, etc). Mike Ditka’s restaurant is steps away. Hotel valet parking was $65 a night but you can find a self park across the street for $45. It’s a short cab ride to the theater district. You can’t go wrong!

When my friend tried to check in the clerk said she could not read the credit card number on the card. I was easily able to read it! The staff, overall was nowhere near as friendly and helpful as the previous staff had been during the 22 years my friend has frequented this hotel. At 10 pm, wanting to take a shower, there was absolutely no water! The handle in the tub was completely broken. The window coverings are so old we didn't want to touch them. The beds were okay, but the comforters were all bunched up on the inside.

Good location right off Michigan Ave. Bar/restaurant good enjoyed wood fired pizza and the staff there. Front desk personnel were not helpful. Price charged was not price quoted by phone when made reservation 3 weeks ahead. Room was cold, small with a dark bathroom. We had two bath towels and robes were hard and stiff. Toiletries were have used. All for $300 a night. Have stayed many times in the past but not again. Beds were good and there was an extra blanket.
This is an older historic hotel so don't expect fancy but I can't complain because it was so close to being anywhere downtown. We walked everywhere we needed and felt very comfortable and safe. The room was small but served it purpose.
