This was our first stay with The Whitehall. I look forward to staying again as the hotel was clean, centrally located and had wonderful, friendly staff!! The other plus was its convenience to many of the restaurants we had intended on visiting.

This hotel is located in THE most desirable neighborhood of Chicago. You can walk everywhere, to a multitude of restaurants, tons of shopping. There is the Museum of Contemporary Art within a 5 minute stroll. Lake Michigan is an impressive sight to behold.

I love the Whitehall, its so unpretentious and low key. The staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and comfy with just enough extra amenities that it feels a little bit special without being over the top. Amazing location convenient to public transportation and all kinds of shopping, eating, and diversions. The only bummer is no in-room coffee (there is nothing like that first cup in bed), but plenty of good coffee in the lobby and room service. Not one, but two restaurants on the ground floor. We only had a chance to eat at the Italian restaurant and it was delicious. Seriously, I cannot wait to go back!

I got a great mid-Winter rate at the Whitehall, booking it through the hotel's website directly. The room had two queen beds and was VERY spacious. There was plenty of room to walk around all sides of the beds and the rest of the room without feeling cramped. The bathroom was large enough and quite clean with lots of towels and the basic toiletries. My only gripe was the sink/shower faucet handles were smooth and round and difficult to turn off once your hands were wet. The room also had a large closet with two robes and a safe, a chair, a desk/chair and the TV console had a refrigerator and a few drawers. Like others have mentioned, the fridge (and a snack tray on top of the console) will charge you if you even pick up one of the items. I really wish hotels would get rid of these things. I highly doubt they make enough money off of them to be worthwhile. They probably waste more guest goodwill and staff man-hour time arguing at check-out with customers who do NOT drink/eat anything but might have accidentally moved an item. IMO, just get rid of them! Leave the empty fridge in place and people will see that as an overall plus for the property. The room faced Delaware Street and it was high enough that we didn't have any trouble with noise bothering us. The heat worked well and kept the room toasty, but we were able to adjust it to a cooler temp for sleeping. Since there was a building directly across the street there wasn't a lot of light coming in and the room seemed dim. This was also a slight gripe, the lamps in the room were not bright enough to really lighten up the room. IMO, the room's decor was too dark with dark carpeting, dark headboards, dark furniture, dark curtains. The wallpaper was also dark. I think a good modern refresh to lighter colors would do wonders for guests overall experience. The inside of the bathroom door in our room was quite banged up and needed to be repaired/repainted, but those kinds of things are not worth complaining about based on the age of this historic property and the price I paid. As long as the hotel is clean, linens are fresh and in good order, and everything works that's all I really need. The staff were all prompt, friendly and professional. We took advantage of the free coffee in the lobby and did have drinks at the bar one evening. We did not eat in the restaurant as there are plenty of choices elsewhere. Location is absolutely optimum as you are steps away from Michigan Avenue. I'd definitely recommend the Whitehall Hotel as a decent, moderate hotel in a prime location. All in all, the Whitehall is a quaint, historic property that is worth a try!

Great hotel in the centre of Chicago. Within walking distance of Lake Ontario, shopping centres and the restaurant area the Whitehall is a place to be. Nice environment, great personnel and good rooms. Two restaurants (Italian and Thai) serving quality food.
