About the Hotel

Striking a perfect balance between the natural beauty of the lake, viewed from a splendid terrace, and the vibrant life of the city, the Terminus is the ideal hotel for those who don't want to miss any of the many unforgettable experiences that Como has to offer. Born out of a complete restructuring of an early 19th century Italian landmark, this waterfront hotel on the shores of Lake Como boasts composite Liberty-style architecture and the noble design characteristics of the Lombard aristocracy. Verdant, climbing moss ascends the main building, while manicured lawns and lush shrubbery border walkways and paths, inspiring visions of Old World affluence. Sophisticated and traditional indoors as well as out, Albergo Terminus arouses tranquility with classic marble, plush furnishings, and dark, mahogany woodwork. From intimate Standard Rooms to the palatial Penthouse Suite, every level of accommodation has its own unique comforts and distinctive design, but all share the same extraordinary amenities, including satellite color television, the finest Italian silks, and opulent bedding. Stretched across a destination flocked to by the American elite and European gentry, your stay at Albergo Terminus is the start of an exquisite escape.

A Timeless Beauty

Albergo Terminus is a historic building with lovely common parlor spaces throughout the first two floors; a fabulous garden patio that is elevated from the street level and has lake views; an open, airy dining room which also faces the lake. It is considered a four star hotel although during our visit we found that not all guest rooms are four star accommodations. Our stay was part of an extended stay booked through a river cruise line. The rooms assigned to the 20 or so guests on this portion of our trip did not feel the four star rating as per general consensus. The change over to AC had not yet occurred so the rooms were a little warm. We were able to change our room from the rear of the building to the side of the building which was a little better for ventilation. A passage way between our hotel and the one next door sat below our 2nd floor window. It was used at all hours by the locals as a short cut to the lake without regard that hotel guests might be sleeping at night. One of these hotel properties should be thinking of their guests comfort. The front desk staff and porters were the absolute best!! They went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. The dining room servers at breakfast were warm and attentive. The buffet style breakfast covered all the bases, and some. The room servicing staff was inconsistent and bathroom supplies were never fully stocked or replenished during our stay. The location of the Albergo Terminus is its biggest asset. It sits lakefront across from the ferry. It is steps from the historic city center and a short walk to the funicular. Everything you want to see or do is easily accessible.

Fantastic Short Stay

Beautiful classy hotel. Staff fantastic, friendly & professional. Loved the high ceilings, the decor and coffee table books. Ticket office for the ferries is only a 2 minute walk away and Como Lago train station a 5 minute walk. Had dinner there both nights and food amazing. Bar tender Adam makes amazing cocktails. Good selection of wines too. Reception staff especially Claudia extremely helpful and knowledgable. Will def return the next time I’m in Como.

Decent stay in amazing location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Location is literally unbeatable. Right next to Como’s lovely streets, across from the ferries, simply perfect. Building is lovely in a grand, belle epoque kind of style. Staff were friendly and the bar and breakfast area were gorgeous. The bar in particular was a great place to relax while the breakfast was a pretty good spread for Italy. Only slight negative was the room. Our deluxe room was pretty small and the bathroom was small. The aircon was entirely useless - one of those old fashioned dials on the wall which makes almost no difference when you move it. That meant for two nights of poor sleep. Shower was surprisingly remarkably good and powerful. I'd probably stay here again but only if they sort out the aircon.

Fantastic location but disappointing

We stayed at Albergo Terminus prior to a river cruise, so had high expectations. Though the location is fantastic - right on the edge of the lake (other side of the road) and it was very easy to walk to everything, our room was very disappointing. We had a "Superior" room, which was tiny. The bathroom was good, but it was so big it was literally half the size of the actual sleeping area. There was no where to put luggage, so we spent forever tripping over suitcases. It was also very noisy - beer barrels and gas canisters were being moved and banged until very late at night, then would start again early in the morning (along with the noisy building site next door). We had very little sleep. The breakfast was good (we didn't try dinner, but others said it was very lacking / not good), but the "room" it uses is very unsatisfactory. It's basically a covered terrace. In the height of summer I imagine it's lovely, but in mid March with strong winds it was freezing cold and the covers were flapping in the wind. Maybe we were just unlucky and got a bad room, but we certainly wouldn't return based on our experience.

Beautiful, boutique style hotel

I booked this hotel to celebrate my husbands birthday. It was honestly a lovely experience. I mentioned it was his birthday and they gave us a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe double bedroom with a jacuzzi bath and lake view. The bathroom had underfloor heating which was such a luxury. There was also a bottle of wine in our room. Claudia on reception was particularly helpful and allowed us a slightly later check out with no extra charges. This hotel isn't an obvious choice when scrolling through the options on Booking.com but it really is a gorgeous hotel and building as well as perfect location to explore Como. If you don't like the large corporate hotels with soulless bedrooms then you will appreciate this one with lovely ambience and a character period building. Staff were pleasant and helpful. The breakfast room was in a great spot with views of the lake. Very good value.

The Albergo Terminus is a special place. Managed by the incredibly warm Cristina Zucchi, her outstanding staff takes great pride in looking after guests, and they are incredibly helpful from check-in to departure...
The Terminus is decorated with lively colors and prized fabrics made from the finest of Lake Como silk. The hotel offers fantastic views of Lake Como, and its location in front of the town makes it easy for you to walk around and explore everything.
If you come to this region looking for George Clooney and his famous villa along Lake Como, the Albergo Terminus will not disappoint.
The hotel's popular Bar delle Terme, a café restaurant with seating for just 20 people inside plus a beautiful outdoor terrace which is popular with the locals, is managed by THE George Clooney look alike, Maurizio, who is happy to pose for pictures with guests.
