Steenberg Hotel in Constantia, South Africa

Dating back to 1682, the Steenberg Hotel is an exquisite historic wine farm set in the foothills of South Africa's magnificent Constantia Valley. Although just 20 minutes from the center of Cape Town, this serene set of buildings - declared an official National Monument - is its own seductive world, surrounded by vineyards and an 18-hole championship golf course. The buildings have been lovingly restored and decorated traditionally with antiques in elegant 17th-century style. In your delightful guest room or suite, you will discover a wealth of treats, which may include a romantic patio with views of the vines and fairways.

Although you are close Cape Town's shops, restaurants and a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain, you may find it difficult to leave the Steenberg Hotel estate itself. You can experience the radiant energy of The Spa at Steenberg, or dine on sophisticated contemporary South African cuisine at Catharina's. You might also enjoy the special privileges at the golf course, or simply laze by the pool and gaze at the mountains as you sip Steenberg's signature Sauvignon Blanc Reserve. If you are in the mood for a day trip, seasonal whale watching in Hermanus is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

We stayed for 3 nights in a Premier Room which was first class. Amenities were as discribed on their website. We had patio doors leading onto a garden with direct access onto the golf course. We had sun on the patio during the afternoon. Views onto the mounbtains were spectacular. The service was excellent throughout our stay and the food in the restaurant was excellent. The 3 course set dinner was excellent value.

What a beautiful estate and lovely, lovely service! A short drive from most of the sights but it is worth the tranquil atmosphere and sense of space. The rooms are SO comfortable and have maintained their old-school feel despite the tasteful, modern decor. A wonderful place to stay.

I stayed here for two nights in January, 2017. My room was as one would expect at a hotel with this rating; the pool area was lovely, as was the dining room and dining terrace. We dined once at The Bistro, which was most excellent. However, the Sunday Brunch and dinner were terribly disappointing. Quite simply, they need to replace or retrain the chef - the food was poor. I am returning to the Cape Town area for three weeks over Christmas and New Year 2017/18 and the poor quality of the dining is the reason I will not return.

I've stayed here twice and loved the atmosphere. I found the rooms to be clean, charming, and comfortable and the staff to be exceptionally professional. The main restaurant was closed for winter maintenance the first night I arrived, but the staff made every effort to offer to take me to a nearby restaurant or to pick up food using their shuttle. Of course, once the restaurant re-opened the next day, breakfast was great, and dinner was excellent. Also tried Bistro1682 for tapas and was impressed by the atmosphere and food/drink selection.

We were greeted with a glass of the Estates' Bubbly ,sipping it in front of a cosy crackling fire on lovely comfortable chairs and that was just the start of our lovely weekend. Our room was elegantly furnished and we looked forward to climb into the soft white linen bedding after our meal. The meal at Catharinas was out of this world and very good value for money. We had a Wonderful time at Steenberg Hotel and will definately visit them again.
