Steenberg Hotel in Constantia, South Africa

Dating back to 1682, the Steenberg Hotel is an exquisite historic wine farm set in the foothills of South Africa's magnificent Constantia Valley. Although just 20 minutes from the center of Cape Town, this serene set of buildings - declared an official National Monument - is its own seductive world, surrounded by vineyards and an 18-hole championship golf course. The buildings have been lovingly restored and decorated traditionally with antiques in elegant 17th-century style. In your delightful guest room or suite, you will discover a wealth of treats, which may include a romantic patio with views of the vines and fairways.

Although you are close Cape Town's shops, restaurants and a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain, you may find it difficult to leave the Steenberg Hotel estate itself. You can experience the radiant energy of The Spa at Steenberg, or dine on sophisticated contemporary South African cuisine at Catharina's. You might also enjoy the special privileges at the golf course, or simply laze by the pool and gaze at the mountains as you sip Steenberg's signature Sauvignon Blanc Reserve. If you are in the mood for a day trip, seasonal whale watching in Hermanus is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Close enough to Cape Town and all its attractions, yet far enough away to offer peace and tranquility in a most beautiful setting. Wonderful accommodation, and wine tasting included. Delightful, friendly staff, in short all that a tourist/traveller could wish for. Our only regret was not stopping for longer, however, we will return!

We spent just over 24hrs at Steenberg. We were collected at airport in smart minivan. The hotel made us very welcome with glass of sparkling wine as formalities were completed. We enjoyed relaxing in sun didn't actually swim in pool but wandered around extensively grounds. Wonderful meal in restaurant. Next morning enjoyed great breakfast and free use of range. Lovely free wine tasting as we were guests. Delicious lunch in bistro. Sadly we were not able to use our room after check out time. But were able to shower and change in spa. Before being transferred to airport for our flight. Great stay hope to be back soon

Could not fault our 7 day stay at this beautiful hotel. Food, staff, accommodation and cleanliness all first class. Staff went the extra mile. Wonderful grounds and scenery. Spa treatments fantastic. Looking forward to our next visit.

We had a very nice stay at Steenberg 5 nights: very friendly staff, beautiful and relaxing poolarea, nice dinners at the Bistro but not impressed by the the food in Catharinas. The golf club is really good but the problem was to get a good tee time even though we booked golf half a year in advance. We recommend this nice hotel!

Escaped here for a night to celebrate our anniversary. Beautiful setting, excellent service. Wonderful breakfast. Wish we could have stayed longer. Loved the detail of the decor - bringing old and new together.
