Steenberg Hotel in Constantia, South Africa

Dating back to 1682, the Steenberg Hotel is an exquisite historic wine farm set in the foothills of South Africa's magnificent Constantia Valley. Although just 20 minutes from the center of Cape Town, this serene set of buildings - declared an official National Monument - is its own seductive world, surrounded by vineyards and an 18-hole championship golf course. The buildings have been lovingly restored and decorated traditionally with antiques in elegant 17th-century style. In your delightful guest room or suite, you will discover a wealth of treats, which may include a romantic patio with views of the vines and fairways.

Although you are close Cape Town's shops, restaurants and a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain, you may find it difficult to leave the Steenberg Hotel estate itself. You can experience the radiant energy of The Spa at Steenberg, or dine on sophisticated contemporary South African cuisine at Catharina's. You might also enjoy the special privileges at the golf course, or simply laze by the pool and gaze at the mountains as you sip Steenberg's signature Sauvignon Blanc Reserve. If you are in the mood for a day trip, seasonal whale watching in Hermanus is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

We had a wonderful nice room with view to the garden. Bathroom was very big, sleeping room as well. The Breakfast was great and dinner in the Bistro was great! Nice Atmosphere and very friendly staff.

Service here is second to none - all the staff are really friendly and helpful. Food is amazing and beautifully presented. Great choice at breakfast - improved from last time we stayed 2 years ago. Rooms are lovely and nothing’s too much trouble for any of the team. The complimentary taxi service to locals restaurants and help with booking them is much appreciated. Golf course is beautiful too. Highly recommended overall.

This place is a little gem. A stunning setting with gorgeous food, beautiful rooms, friendly staff and a very warm welcome with complimentary drinks at an open fire. Free wine tasting, a welcome gift and chocolate nougat at turn down. We had a very comfortable stay. The staff are so friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend. The breakfast is also delicious and so fresh and varied.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a place where attention to detail was so obvious and apparent. It was astonishing, really. Every detail has been carefully thought out and executed tastefully with great precision. Wow! I felt like I was getting the complete royal treatment. This is really Premium! If there were other places under the same ownership, I’d book them in a heartbeat. The hotel capacity is very small, about 14 rooms. The grounds and facilities are impeccable, gorgeous. The spa is excellent per my wife. The pool is classically wonderful. There are flowers and blooms everywhere. Grasses, trees, bushes manicured to perfection. The staff is so friendly you’ll think you’ve been welcomed to heaven. Their competence is manifest in everything they do. The rooms are smartly decorated with the finest accoutrements. A sanctuary of pleasure. The restaurant is first class, the service meticulous, the menu interesting and varied and the wine list features the Steenberg wines. There is a tapas restaurant at the winery which has a more complete list. The hotel maintains a small fleet of vehicles to whisk you wherever you might want to go. The estate is framed by the rock hills from which the name derives and the back side of Table Mountain which provides a very dramatic setting. The golf course is very good. Maybe not the best in South Africa, but for four consecutive days it did not get boring. Caddies were fairly treated here and first rate.

Part of our south africa trip/ tour, and we were recommended to stay. We were not disappointed. Superb location, set within the vineyards and golf course. room was nicely situated within the main house, bathroom was beuatifully presented, lovely sizable shower. marketed as a 24 bedroom luxury boutique hotel and it certainly is. it was our anniversary, and on return from dinner, the room/ bed was covered in petals and shaped swans from the hand towels- nice touch. Service was sharp, but friendly and warm, most professional. as a hotel guest, recommend you partake in the wine tasting - superb, with us purchasing several bottles of the sauvignon blanc. played 18 holes of golf whilst there, lovely course, and the Caddy came in handy- although the pricing with the clubs, felt a little lumpy. Mrs S indulged in a spa treatment and she said it was one of the best she`s had ! what can you say. on the first night we eat out- kindly chauffered and collected from the Steenberg shuttle bus. 2nd night we eat at Catharina`s restaurant - excellent, wide menu, and the lamb dish was top class. prawn and salmon starter was fresh, with the venison not disappointing. African game was superb. Delighted to have stayed here and would strongly recommend it .
