Dromoland Castle Hotel

Full disclosure, I don’t play golf and this hotel is primarily a golf course, so maybe that’s why I didn’t enjoy my stay, but I am used to golf course vibes and this place seems odd even so. On the plus side if you need to be out of public view because you are a celebrity, or if you are a person with a security detail, you might be ok. You might also be fine having your wedding here, especially if you are from a coastal American city and want to be isolated from local culture. But for an average vacationer looking for a couple special nights, I’d say you could do better. Private equity seems to be driving the train, the toilet paper is like sand paper, etc. The worst part was that staff, many of whom seem young and nervous, walk into your room about 6 times a day with little notice, My female friend was in the shower at 8 am when a male staff person entered. Followed by an older women who entered unannounced 30 minute later to appologize. I was napping at 4 pm before turn down and after cleaning when a young staff person entered to fill the mini bar. You can’t rest. Fig restaurant is like any golf club quick serve clubhouse place. The main dining room is fine, breakfast is good, but it’s hard to relax when chairs are being pulled out for you unexpectedly and service feels performative. Getting into our car to leave we had to endure a protracted handshake from a porter. One enormous exception is the falconry area. Can’t say enough nice things about this amazing program and it’s outstanding staff who are really special people. I wonder if they are even managed by the same corporation?

The walled garden is stunning. It is a must see. The variety of plants is fantastic and it is beautifully maintained. We enjoyed a lovely walk around it. It is so accessible and there is plenty of interesting plants to enjoy. The staff were so friendly and helpful too.

We broke up our visits to Counties Clare and Kerry with a night at Dromoland and so enjoyed our stay! Everyone was so helpful, the room was spacious and comfortable, and the breakfast was lovely. By far, the highlight of our trip was the falconry experience. Our guide Darrin was so knowledgeable and friendly - we learned so much from him!

Appologies for this late review...due to 'circumstance' .... this was our second visit to Dromoland Castle Hotel.... for another 'special family ocasion' ... Our expericnce was just amazing altogether, fantastic, brilliant, I could go on and on... 'simply put' it was one of our most memorable family ocasions.... just stay here and prove me right.... truly an exquisite experience !!!!

This place was nothing short of amazing! I was so glad that we stayed here, I wish it had been more than one night! We signed up for the falconry experience and it was simply amazing. Our room was fit for a king and queen. The breakfast was outstanding, and we also ate at the fig, which was also very good.!! I would highly recommend spending at least a night here if not more!! we also took the history tour, although extremely informative I was hoping to be able to see more of the castle. I did buy the history book at the bookshop to Reed on the airplane ride back home and it is worth every penny!
