We were invited to a friends wedding in Cork, Ireland and the reception was being held at Castlemartyr, so we booked to stay at the hotel for three nights. The hotel is located in East Cork which is about 20 minute drive from Cork Airport. The hotel is lovely, set in its own land with the remains of the Castle still standing. There is a lake and fields with horses and a very well kept golf course. The hotel is clean and has everything you’d expect from a 5 star hotel, the service was excellent. The staff were very friendly and were always willing to assist. We were very fortunate with the weather and had clear blues sky’s for the fours days we were there. The rooms are clean and tidy with comfortable beds. My only criticism of the room was that the fridge was not working and the lighting system is a bit confusing. The lights are either all on or all off. But apart from that, lovely hotel with beautiful surroundings. The wedding reception was hosted very well and the service by the young staff was very good. The food was a very high standard. Highly recommend this hotel and not forgetting beautiful Ireland. I hope to return soon.

Whole family travelled here for a birthday weekend. All the rooms were full so we took two holiday villas in the grounds of the hotel. Villas excellent and comfortable, well appointed , clean and warm with a courtesy coach available to take you to the hotel. On our first night we dined in the Italian restaurant which was very good and the children looked after very well. On our second night, we dined in the main restaurant which was also very good but the fish ( bream) which some of us had was overcooked. The children were also well looked after. We had breakfast in the hotel the morning of our departure but what a let-down. It was buffet and hot breakfast on order. The selection of cereals, cold meat and cheeses were so poor, its the worst we have seen anywhere. For a 5 Star hotel and at €25.00 a head ( children free) it was a rip off. 3 Star hotels have served much, much better. Cooked breakfasts to order were no better... Bacon was rock hard and cold. It was obvious the bacon, etc had been cooked hours before hand, the reason being the buffet area was so small there was no space to lay out the cooked food so it was disguised as a cooked breakfast to order. The coffee was cold, no toast served and when I did ask for it , it was brought for one person only !. The used cereal dishes were not collected , we had to ask for them to be removed. The Golf Club wasn't much better. We had booked for 3 for the Saturday morning the week before but when we arrived , there was no record of any booking but we insisted so eventually we got out to play . Its an ok course, not exciting , just basic. But the grounds , they were a swamp ! Fairways were ok but the rough was so wet you would need wellingtons and grass too high, obviously unable to be mowed by any machine. And the hotel car parking, its so far away from the hotel, every car was parked up on the grass verges in one , big, long line and with cars driving up and down in very poor lighting at night , it wasn't very safe for children Nevertheless, we all enjoyed our weekend away but would think twice before coming back . Its not a cheap hotel / resort but it has to improve big time!
