Having read some recent reviews I was more than a little apprehensive prior to our visit to Castlemartyr, given the 5 star rating expectations are naturally high. We were surprised to see so many children / families on our arrival however, they rarely caused any disturbance, the facilities on offer clearly kept them occupied. We were more than impressed with our room, it was comfortable and incredibly spacious not to mention spotless. On our first evening we ate in The Bell Tower, the beautiful setting, the quality of the food, the service were all wonderful. This theme followed through to breakfast the following morning, again the quality of the ingredients used and the pleasant service made for a lovely start to the day. We later enjoyed treatments in the Spa area, unfortunately we missed the opportunity to use the additional facilities upstairs beforehand (sauna, steam room, hot tub etc as we weren't aware they were available and assumed the only facilities were attached to the main pool, an oversight but by no means a great problem). The breakfast area was far busier the next day, with slight queues developing however, the manner in which every member of staff from manager to valet chipped in to clear tables, offer fresh teas and toast and ease the strain was nothing short of admirable. It was teamwork at it's best. Tempers never frayed, everyone was spoken to with respect at all times. There's almost a feel of a traditional, family run hotel here, everyone working together, creating a lovely atmosphere for all. We checked in with a genuinely warm welcome and checked out feeling refreshed, relaxed and valued as a guest, what more could we ask for? there's no doubt that we will return.

Stayed late feb, had booked 4 nights but checked out a day early as we were disappointed. Room was nice, comfy bed, great coffee machine. Bedside lamp not working, very little toiletries and coffee pod top ups over the course of our stay. Food average, breakfast dreadful on occasion, not an egg cup to be found for a boiled egg!! Cold pancakes, forgotten orders twice and slow service! Main restaurant closed for refurbishment while we were there so limited dining options, staff pleasant but very slow. pool area nothing special but lovely grounds. Won't be rushing back, we checked out early and checked into The Old Ground in Ennis for an extra night, great 4 star hotel with fantastic food & service.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for two nights over the easter holidays 2017. We had a very easy quick check in. Our bedroom was gorgeous, definitely a 5 star bedroom. Massive cosy bed, very luxurious bathroom and walk in wardrobe! The let down of the hotel is 100% the service in the hotel, breakfast was all over the place and service was extremely slow and the food was not great! The pool and spa is also a let down and is more like a local leisure centre, which is a pity when you are expecting a 5 star spa. Food in the lounge/bar is very tasty. All in all a very nice hotel, I would rate it a high four star hotel.

One night stop over. Nice hotel ona lovely grounds. Nice to recharge and take a break in a secluded estate. Good size room. Breakfast was good. Food in bar was good. Dinner in the restaurant was also good hotel style food no complaints. Excellent gym facilities compared to the cliff house. My wife used the spa for a massage and loved it. One thing I did notice was the staff on the Saturday were much friendlier than the Friday. Otherwise I really enjoyed my stay. Nice relaxing break.

My husband and I stayed here over the Easter break. We had a lovely stay. Check in was fast and efficient. The rooms are spacious, clean and the Nespresso machine is a lovely facility to have. Bed was extremely comfortable. There was a musty smell over the few days we stayed in the room however, not quite sure what this was down to. The speakers on the TV were broken (didn't report this so can't fault this but should it not be flagged already by them?) No conditioner and when I rang down it took ages and was too late by the time it arrived. 1 shampoo, 1 body lotion and 1 shower gel is not enough and they should be replenished daily. Maybe there was a supply issue as when I returned the next day after having requested more housekeeping had taken away the extras! I had a spa treatment which was excellent. The pool is full of children until after 6 so we stayed upstairs until this time, however disappointingly the thermal suites are separated for men & women so if you're travelling as part of a couple you can't enjoy this together. Bit of a let down and there is no real wow factor to that whole area. The breakfast was very disappointing. Table service was very slow, burnt toast on both mornings and the continental selection was really poor. This is where it did not remotely feel like a 5*. There is a tiny dark room with a very limited selection of cereal, breads and fruits. On both mornings the fruit bowls, nuts & seed bowls & pancake area were empty, no gluten free items on display, cheese but no crackers, no garnishes on hot plates etc. The breakfast does not compare to other 5* hotels simple as that. We ate in the bar on the 1st night, bar staff were very friendly and I enjoyed a really good cocktail. The food however was fairly standard and took over 45 minutes to come out. The grounds are beautiful for walks and there is so much in the area to do it is a lovely place to stay but doesn't quite live up to the hype in my opinion.
