We stayed in Castlemartyr over the past weekend to celebrate a special birthday for our Mum. We’d heard good things about the hotel, and were looking forward to the weekend. We ate in Franchinis on the Saturday, which was delicious and had afternoon tea on the Sunday, which again was lovely. However, her birthday dinner on the Sunday evening in The Bell Tower Restaurant was a complete and utter disaster. We booked dinner for 7.15pm, our starter arrived at 7.30pm, by 9pm we still had not received the main course, on complaining we were told there was a delay due to our order going in just after that of a large tour group (which were in an adjoining room). This was a complete lie, as we were placing our order the tour group were only just making their way into their function room. The hotel clearly had a staffing problem that night, customers in the restaurant were being ignored in favour of the tour group. Everyone else in the Bell Tower also experienced delays that evening, staff were disbritbuting free glasses of wine as a form of apology. This was Mother’s Day, a busy weekend, the hotel were clearly aware the tour group were booked, yet failed to have sufficient staff on. When our food finally did arrive, it was, to be blunt, disgusting. Burnt vegetables, lukewarm mash and the meat was inedible. At no point did management make any appearance in the restaurant to offer any form of apology, leaving it up to waiting staff to make excuses. One of which was that ‘all food is cooked to order, hence the delay.” I would assume all food being cooked to order is the norm in any hotel, so fail to understand how they can use this as an excuse. The only good thing out of this disaster of an evening, was Khan in the Knights Bar, who could see Mum was upset, and went out of his way to make up for what had happened. It’s a shame there’s not more staff like him in this hotel. On checking out Monday morning, it was left to the front desk staff to try to make amends. At no sign did a manager make an appearance, despite us asking to see him. There were other issues over the weekend, my mother’s room was not cleaned on the Sunday, the female bathroom near the restaurant was filthy on Sunday night, no hand towels, just toilet paper to dry your hands. One of the showers in the Spa Thermal suite was out of action, there was a horrible mouldy smell in the sauna. This was a special birthday weekend for our Mum, we can’t ever recreate that moment again, and thanks to Castlemartyr Resort the weekend was ruined. This hotel is in no way a five star establishment, I would never stay here again, and wouldn’t recommend it to anywone.

Had a fantastic overnight stay here on 21st March & once again they surpassed themselves in every area. The room was amazing, every comfort was met & the welcome back card & strawberries were a wonderful touch. We ate at the Bell Tower and the food was beautifully presented & delicious and the service is amazing. You can see why they have awards for their food. The breakfast is fantastic & the carrot spring rolls on the vegetarian breakfast are one of the nicest breakfast items I have ever tried. The leisure centre is spotlessly clean with everything you need in there. The gardens are beautiful, they have valet parking & the staff are second to none. An all round winner in our books. A special thank you to Jason who not only filled us in on the history of the building but brought us on a tour of the Manor House which was truly wonderful, we really appreciated his knowledge & kindness, but this is the calibre of staff here, it doesn't matter if you are a President, Rock Star or Joe & Mary Soap you are treated like Royalty.

This is a new and well appointed hotel. The cleaning staff could use some training. The floor in our bathroom hadn't been cleaned, the coffee spoons had coffee on them and my bath towel had a large hole in it. All rather minor but not 5-star. On the other hand, the staff was excellent. We were disappointed to find that all of the restaurants in the hotel were booked until late. However, Roy at the front desk recommended Pizzeria San Marco in Midleton which turned out to be a terrific choice. Thanks Roy!

Great place for a leisurely holiday. First class accommodations. Restaurant is excellent. Be sure to try the Angus beef steak, it is to die for. Luxury spa on site if you need to work off calories. Grounds around the hotel are excellent for nice walks. Golf is available if that is your thing.

We were there twice in the last two months and enjoyed every detail of it. We stayed in the Junior suite for both trip and loved it. The marble and under floor heating in the bathroom and generous space for the walk in wardrobe etc....Worth mention its bell tower restaurant - loved every detail of the taste from there scallop monkfish tempura and seabass breakfast.... ah...would love to go back to them on a regular base. Only down side is there spa, maybe down to individual massage skills, even though I will still go back to the resort and recommend the restaurant to everyone.
