Attend the Castlemartyr Resort for a wedding at the week end and I have to say it was amazing! It looked like it had a bit of a refurb since I was there last. The ballroom for the reception was magnificent. The food was fabulous. I have dietary requirements and there was no fuss at all. I wasn't made to feel singled out at all! The staff were top notch, friendly, happy and so attentive. Will be gushing about this for days!

Having won a two night stay in the hotel, which included B&B plus one dinner in the Italian Restaurant, my wife and I invited guests to join us for dinner on the other night in the main restaurant. The booking for this restaurant was made independently of our stay. I must at this point mention that we had stayed and eaten in the hotel before. As we sat down for our dinner, the waiter approached my wife and in front of our invited guests asked her if she "was aware" the meal was not covered in our package. How the connection was made was never established, but clearly we were singled out as the "prize winners" and we were made to feel like freeloaders for having won the prize, that the hotel clearly provided. This was humiliating to say the least. We approached the duty manager (after we had paid for the meal) and complained about the actions of the waiter. He said it "was terrible" and undertook to look into the matter. Nothing happened. On checking out we again advised the staff member who acknowledged that there was a record of the complaint, but offered nothing other than a forced apology from the hotel. (eventually there was a small concession on a bar bill) The staff in reception advised they would have the manager call my wife, we are still waiting....... Other than that unfortunate incident, the hotel is excellent and the food was also excellent, provided you can prove you can afford to eat there.....

Been here on a few occasions and to be honest I think last weekend will be the last time to the bar for a relaxing drink or lunch. Firstly I understand table service, which appears to be the case here but when no one comes to take an order and you go to the bar you are literally ignored for ages which makes you feel really awkward. I found, who appeared to be the bar manager (in suit) to be quite rude, while I must say other staff were very nice. It is not that reasonable here or food worth the price, €12 for a chicken sandwich, while the location and settings are great, no where is that great.

I visited the Knights bar in this hotel on Sunday last the 21st of May. We had arranged to meet friends there for a catch up & some lunch. I decided to order the "Mrs Quinn picnic" which was a small sandwich, small bowl of soup & a small little Dessert. The rest of my friends ordered sandwiches. When mine arrived I tasted the soup & I really taught I was going to be physical sick, I got my husband to taste it as well & he just said" That tastes like Dishwater" it was absolutely horrendous. I called over a guy wearing a suit who I think was a deputy manager. I explained how bad the soup was & he seems not interested & really didn't seem to care. He just took the bowl of soup & said nothing to me, not even "sorry" I called over our waiter who had served us, he was a young guy who was very nice & I explained about the soup, he couldn't have been more nicer & asked me did I want anything else. I took a bowl of chips instead. Our friends who had been at the hotel before we arrived had said they had overheard some other people complain as well but weren't sure what about. Absolute it was the soup. The rest of my friends lunch was fine. But definitely not five star food in this hotel/bar. Very disappointed.

If there are any issues staff seem to want to defer to our anyone else other than deal with the customer issue. Place seems short-staffed, lacks the special attention that you would expect from their prices, and the food is average. I would very much question the rating.
