For context Castlemartyr is a marriage of an older manor house & rooms, extended significantly on what could be described as a Scandic Extension nestling neatly with the external wood land and gardens. The hotel, grounds and facilities are very much 5 star, i had forgotten how beautiful it was and it being my wife's first time visiting she was very pleasantly surprised. The Car was taken from us at reception, a lovely touch and it was without fuss, The check in experience itself was smooth and fairly fast. we had to vouchers from 3 years ago, we were told one had expired and only for my wife had the receipt we found out later it actually hadn't, more about that later. We stayed in Room 107, close enough to reception overlooking the rear courtyard and woodlands. The room was beautiful, a lovely size with a quality fit out, an adjoining wardrobe on the entry to the bathroom. The Bathroom, fitted out tastefully in marble, was absolutely beautiful. We went for a light lunch in the brasserie adjoining the canopy restaurant. A lovely view overlooking the rear gardens after which we went and explored Gardens ad walks surrounding the hotel. We had a drink in Knights Bar prior to Dinner in the Canopy restaurant that evening and went back to Knights bar after our meal. Knights bar, pictures attached is part of the original manor house and an absolutely beautiful room, where you could sit and sip for hours. Breakfast is hosted in the same room as we had dinner and was excellent. Some Feedback: Check in: The voucher was too easily discounted as being expired, had we not the receipt that would have been that. Rooms: There was a whistling in the AC system that appeared for 5 seconds every few minutes, originally my i thought it was someone whistling in an adjacent room but my wife was laughing at me at 11pm saying that the whistler is still at it. It didn't stop throughout the night. The bed and pillows were too hard, genuinely for both of us, borderline orthopedic. Canopy Restaurant by night: Cold (in terms of heating) and also cold from a decor perspective. The bench seating on the external walls don't do a restaurant serving food of such quality justice (pls reconsider serving Fish in Bowl shape plates as you cant leave your knife down any where without causing a mess). The decor in terms of material/design and the wall colors being earthy make the room feel like the poor relation. There is a green foliage hanging ceiling, spanning maybe 40% of the center of the room, in some places the chicken wire has detached form the foliage and is exposed. it has massive potential, it being Xmas i would have decorated it something like the Xmas tree in the Knights restaurant. Canopy Restaurant for breakfast: quite the opposite (great food), the difference being the views out to the garden, woodlands and almost feeling your at one with the outside. The room has two primary purposes , serves one well, not the other, small changes, only decorative would have such an impact. perhaps bring in the color scheme / rich color furniture into here also from Knights bar or something in between. Knights Bar: Absolutely Beautiful (pics attached), decor with stunning coving detail and ceilings. You get a sense your sitting in a historic setting so much so you would not want to leave. It wasn't warm in terms of temperature however you wouldn't be running away because of that. Spa & Fitness: Didn't use the facilities however we did go to have a look. As you'd expect for a 5 star it was very impressive. Lost & Found: I am awaiting a response to an email enquiring about a watch in lost and found from a previous stay and enquired again yesterday without any response, ill call again on Monday. Don't let the above put you off, we are not people that go around looking to be critical believe it or not, small things can make a massive difference, Hope to visit again some day...............

We recently went to Castlemartyr Resort for Afternoon Tea and it was amazing!! The staff were so friendly and helpful. They couldn’t do enough for you. But the afternoon tea itself was the nicest we have ever had. The selection of cakes, sandwiches and pastries was amazing. Two of our party had allergies (one a Severe dairy allergy) but this did not mean anything was left out. The alternatives were beautiful and this does not happen in other places. I would highly highly recommend visiting Castlemartyr Resort for Afternoon Tea!

We booked a weekend at Castlemartyr (and dinner at Terre) as a birthday treat, hoping to park the car and completely switch off. Instead, the hotel was overrun with multiple weddings. Check-in was delayed, which was understandable, and we were upgraded to a lovely manor house room — though the toiletries were nearly empty and the towels felt basic. Dinner in the Canopy Restaurant was disappointing: bright lights and high noise levels made it feel more like a café than fine dining. The bathrooms were also in poor condition, seemingly due to heavy wedding use. Afterwards, in Knights Bar, we asked for the fireplace to be lit but were told there were no firelighters, so we returned to our room. The following morning, we tried again to relax in Knights Bar, only to be repeatedly moved to accommodate wedding setups. Fireplaces were unlit or unsuccessfully lit, leaving us cold while staff bustled loudly around us preparing for events. Eventually I told the Duty Manager we wanted to check out. He tried to seat us in the Salon, but the fire there smoked so badly (they used candles to light it - as again, there were no firelighters to be found?!!) that the windows had to be opened, leaving the room (and us) freezing. We left the hotel in search of warmth and found that the local pub (owned by the hotel) was due to be taken over by the previous day's wedding party from mid-afternoon. Dinner at Terre was excellent — as expected at €220 per person before drinks and service — but, in hindsight, we should have stayed elsewhere and travelled in for the meal. We came to Castlemartyr for calm, comfort, and restoration, but the experience was overwhelmingly chaotic. It’s clear the hotel is geared around weddings and events; non-event guests feel like an afterthought. While we understand the commercial importance of events, guests should be informed in advance when weddings will dominate the hotel and its common spaces. Transparency would allow people to choose whether to stay, avoid the dates, or prepare for a very different experience. The staff were excellent throughout, but management urgently needs to rethink the hotel’s approach.
