Generally, this is a lovely hotel in a nice location, and whilst our experience was greatly enhanced by the 100% warm and friendly staff (in all disciplines), we were a little bit disappointed by one or two minor issues. As explained to staff at check-out, it is the little things that make such a difference! If you have provided the very nice added luxury of electrically powered curtains, it is very frustrating that one has to spend 20 minutes fiddling around to unjam them and get them to work properly - - and no, it wasn't our inability - -it has been complained about by others before us! And whilst there was a nice display of tea and coffee items, there was nowhere to plug the kettle into anywhere near the display because nearly every socket in the room was the old fashioned round pin sockets, and very few modern square pin sockets - very frustrating! We also noted other folks comments about the hotel being a bit on the cool side, but luckily we prefer cool to hot, but you might not !! The food menu in the Knights bar was a little restricted, and whilst the main Bell Tower restaurant menu was acceptable, the food itself was not up to the prices charged. I had a fillet steak - sadly the toughest one I've ever had - but it came with almost nothing except a very large dollop of mashed potato! That did not enhance my enjoyment, and most certainly did not reflect the heavy price charged, even although the price supplement was 'waived' when I made a comment about the poor quality steak. Luckily our stay was financed as a 'thank you' Christmas present from a grateful family member, and whilst we did enjoy our stay overall, it did not represent 5 star 'care and consideration', even although, as mentioned, all the staff were very warm and friendly! However, if you take advantage of one of their quite well discounted special offers, this hotel becomes much more attractive, and it then becomes better value for money.

We had a great stay at Castlemartyr this weekend. When our original room wasn't what we wanted it was no problem for us to have a different one. All staff were lovely. Trevor looked after us so well and Karolina in the Bell Tower was a lovely friendly waitress. Spa was amazing, our room was gorgeous, all in all a lovely stay.

We arrived and availed of the Valet parking service. We were early and our room wasn't ready so we went to the bar for lunch. The porter came to the bar with our room keys and advised us that our bags had been delivered to the room ! Great Service. Our Junior Suite on the 3rd floor was very nice, big and spacious. We dined in the Bell Tower and as there were 5 of us, on a birthday night away, we were a little noisy for the other customers dining. We hope they enjoyed their meal regardless, as we did, the food was very nice. Trevor looked after us very well and Nicola loves her Castlemartyr Teddy Bear ! The hotel really is very nice. A little tired in spots, but overall very nice. We will definitely be back.

So when we arrived to check in the guy on reception was not the most pleasant and he rushed through the check in and wasn't really bothered with us so we were not informed that we should book the restaurant for that evening (maybe we should have known to do this) so unfortunately when we went to go for dinner the 2 restaurants that we wanted to eat in were fully booked, we ended up eating in the golf clubhouse, the meal was nice and cheap but not what we wanted. We stayed on the ground floor of the hotel, the rooms are a good long walk away from the reception which is good I suppose as it was not too noisy! The hotel and resort is absolutely beautiful, the room was fab, the beds were so comfortable (like the most comfy bed in the world)!!! The bathroom was so lovely, the bath is massive, the shower is also great. The curtains in the room are motorised... took a little while to figure that out though and to find the light switches!!! Most of the staff were lovely, pleasant and helpful. We attended a family wedding and it was done so lovely, I got my hair and make up done in the spa and I was very happy with both, although I thought the make up was a bit pricey! All in all I loved staying at the Castlemartyr, it was pricey but it is a real treat and I would really like to visit again.
