Our group of 2 couples recently traveled to Ireland and Scotland for about 20 days. As part of our trip, we based at The Castlemartyr Resort in Castlemartyr, Ireland. Our reason for staying was we wanted to explore vis day trips to Cohb, Cork and other surrounding areas. I must say, after being a world traveler for over 50 years, the rooms, and their first class appointments, coupled with the, absolutely, stunningly beautiful (large) surrounding grounds that the resort sits upon, are among the top 5 that we have visited in all of our years of travels. We had perfect, Autumn weather (slightly chilly), with just a passing shower or two. Our room was a small suite, but it was not small. The staff were excellent, and friendly. I really enjoyed their breakfast as well. We did not get a chance to try their 2 Star Michelin Restaurant, but did enjoy their bar and grill. I would rate the food as really good, 4 stars. Service was somewhat slow in their higher-class restaurant our 1st evening. They could do better-we had trouble getting the attention of our waiter to refill our water glasses, etc. But, that was our only knock on our stay...nothing big, just surprised. We hope to return to the Castlemartyr-We thought for the price of our suite was very fair. Loved Ireland, too!

While the grounds and accommodation at Castlemartyr Resort are impressive, the leisure facilities fall significantly short of expectations for a five-star property. The gym is small, poorly equipped, and appears outdated. Lockers in the changing rooms have been non-functional for an extended period, leaving guests without secure storage — an unacceptable oversight in any hotel, let alone one of this calibre. Key features such as the jacuzzi are consistently out of order, and the steam room frequently malfunctions. The overall cleanliness and maintenance of the thermal suite are concerning, with towel bins often overflowing and a persistent unpleasant smell in the area. Water is frequently left pooling on the floor, creating a serious slip hazard. The outdoor plunge pool is in particularly poor condition, with cloudy water and what appears to be a hose trailing from it — therefore a professionally mismanaged facility. Despite other guests and members raising concerns with staff, the standard response is that issues are “being looked into,” yet no visible improvements have been made. In its current state, the leisure centre does not meet even basic expectations, let alone the standards associated with a five-star experience. Significant investment and proper management oversight are urgently needed as well as a genuine update from management as to how they will improve the leisure facilities!

From start to finish it was one of the best trips away and experience I ever had. From Trevor the manager down too people at reception every single person was so lovely and friendly. Hands down the best hotel and service me and my partner have ever had! Highly recommend and will 100% be back. Thanks again Trevor and staff 👍
