We stayed 2 nights at the Castlemartyr in January 2026. Upon arrival we were welcomed by Jodie who also did our check-in and also our check-out when we left. We booked a 'Superior Deluxe Room' which was a nice room upstairs on the first floor with views over the gardens at the back of the hotel. The room had a beautiful separate bathroom and bedroom. One thing that could be improved here is that the room has touch-screen operation of lights. While this was obviously meant as a 'modern touch' these didn't work well at all, sometimes I had to touch the light button on the screen about 15 times before the lights went out... Included with the stay was the use of the leisure facilities, which includes a really nice and comfortably warm indoor swimming pool. The pool is quite large, especially for a hotel, and the space has lots of big windows where you can look outside while having a swim. Use of the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi is also included, which is very nice. Robes are provided in the room. We had dinner in the brasserie bar. The food was tasty, but the setup of this restaurant makes it not comfortable for everyone. We had a normal table and chairs, which was fine, but other people were seated at a very low table (about 1 foot high or so) and were visibly uncomfortable having their dinner in while having to fold themselves over to reach the low table. The breakfast was very tasty as well, really good eggs and pastries (although my black coffee had no taste). However the room it was served in, the Canopy Restaurant, didn't really fit the 5-star rating in my opinion. During breakfast hours it has a Scandinavian atmosphere with the wooden tables without tablecloths and hard wooden chairs. It really felt like I was eating in IKEA, although the food itself, as I mentioned, was great. The hotel has a lot of art, both sculptures and paintings, displayed throughout indoors and out, which gives it the feel of a spacious art gallery or even a museum. I really liked this and it made the walks through the building and the outside gardens more interesting. Setting is in a lovely rural / wooded area with rivers and paths and we had a lovely long walk of about 7km through the local forest which has signposted footpaths.

I can’t recommend Castlemartyr Resort enough. My partner and I stayed here for two nights recently and both agreed it was one of the best trips away we’ve had. From the moment I first contacted the reservations team right through to check-out, we were met with the most helpful and genuinely friendly staff. Every area of the hotel exceeded our expectations. Our room was spotlessly clean, beautifully presented and very quiet, with no noise from outside. There was an event on during our stay but all music stopped by 11pm and didn’t disturb us at all. We both enjoyed very relaxing treatments in the spa and made full use of the facilities. The food throughout the resort was delicious. Breakfast offered a fantastic variety of options. We enjoyed lunch in the Brasserie, dinner in the Golf Club and a few drinks in the Knights Bar. Each area had the perfect atmosphere: a nice buzz (during a quieter time of year) making it easy to relax, chat and enjoy the surroundings. Overall, a superb experience from start to finish. I will definitely be returning.

A rich, comforting seafood chowder packed with flavour and perfectly cooked fish, exactly what you want on a cold January day. The service from Diana was equally delightful. Warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming, she made the experience feel effortless from start to finish.

This was not our first stay at Castlemartyr and each time the experience never falters - it is a wonderful resort with great staff and service. This is much appreciated and we will be returning.
