Muckross Park Hotel & Spa

Amazing in every way. Just love this gorgeous hotel and it’s so conveniently located for touring the south west.

We stayed in Muckross Park Hotel and Spa for two nights. The staff were excellent, 10/10, which I think really helped to boost the overall rating of the hotel. From the moment we arrived, the receptionist was extremely welcoming and, once our room was ready, had our bags brought upstairs. The concierge, Jakub, was also very helpful. We rented bikes from him, and he showed us the route to take around the park, including where to stop for the best views. When we left, another member of the concierge team brought our bags back downstairs for us, which was a nice touch. One thing I really liked was that all of the staff seemed to acknowledge you when walking around the hotel. Everyone would say hello or greet you, which gave the hotel a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. This even included the maintenance staff, which I thought was a particularly nice touch. The staff in the Monks Lounge were also exceptional when we arrived and were very helpful throughout our stay. We ate in Colgan's Pub on the first night and then went into Killarney for the second night. There were, however, a few areas that slightly disappointed me, particularly considering this is a five-star hotel. These were mainly the finer details: Check-in time: On the website, the hotel check-in time is stated as being from 3pm, but we were not checked into our room until after 4pm. I wouldn't mind if it was only 30 minutes later, but if rooms are generally not ready until 3:30pm, I think the check-in time on the website should be changed to reflect this. Room condition: There was an iron mark on the carpet in the room, which wasn't the most pleasant thing to look at and is something I wouldn't expect to see in a five-star hotel. Spa facilities: The spa facilities were good but lacked some attention to detail. The labels on the rainfall shower had been rubbed off, so you couldn't tell which button you were pressing. One of the settings also has a cold-water feature, which came as a bit of a shock when selected without knowing what the button did. Outdoor jacuzzi: The outdoor jacuzzi was quite cold, making it difficult to sit outside for very long and properly enjoy the views. TV in the twin room: I understand that the hotel is an older property and that they are trying to maintain the traditional feel and overall aesthetic. However, I think the TV situation in the twin room could be improved. The TV is located inside a cupboard on a pull-out tray, but the cupboard door doesn't open fully, meaning the TV is still partially boxed in. If you are sleeping in the bed closest to the window, you also have to lean across to get a good view of the TV. The TV itself is also quite old. Breakfast: Breakfast is continental, with eggs and an Irish breakfast ordered separately from the menu. On the first morning, I ordered Eggs Benedict. It was okay, but the muffin was burnt and seemed to have been covered with hollandaise sauce, which made it less noticeable. My friend ordered a poached egg, but it only came with half a muffin. If you want to add a side of sausages or bacon, it is an additional €5 and isn't included with the breakfast. I found this a little cheeky considering the amount you pay to stay at the hotel. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay, and the staff were definitely one of the highlights. Their friendliness and willingness to help made a big difference. However, for a five-star hotel, I think some of the finer details could be improved to make the overall experience match the standard you would expect.

A short taxi journey outside Killarney town, Muckross Park Hotel and Spa is bliss. Lovely generous bedrooms with the usual standard amenities. Spotlessly clean throughout with plenty of spaces to just sit and chill. My spa treatments were wonderful, especially the outdoor seaweed bath. Bliss. Staff are extremely courteous, professional and friendly. Food was fantastic from breakfast to lunch in Monk's Lounge to fine dining in The Yew Tree restaurant. Across the road from The National Park, and a bus stop into town, its ideal for both a relaxing and revitalising trip.

Stayed at the Muckross Hotel in August 2026 and couldn't fault the service from the greeting at reception to the fine dining restaurant, to the breakfast/coffee kindly packed up at 4.30am on the day we left. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
