Belmond Hotel Monasterio in Cusco, Peru
Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.
Discover each room, hallway, and passage at the hotel, where every undiscovered nook seems to hold legendary secrets. Abutting the main square and courtyard is Illariy Restaurant, a dining retreat adorned with original paintings and art that serves distinctive Peruvian and international cuisine. Morning meals are taken in El Tupay Restaurant, and mixologists at the Lobby Bar are skilled at creating refreshing libations with the shake of a wrist. And if you are in the mood for a more private experience, simply ring for room service round-the-clock. Just a few blocks from Cusco's central square with the cathedral and many prominent museums, Belmond Hotel Monasterio provides an idyllic place to discover everything the region has to offer.

Reviews for Belmond Hotel Monasterio
When we arrived we were stunned by the elegance of the lobby/bar area. The staff took us through the most relaxing and civilized check-in I can ever remember: sat us down in a comfy area, brought us tea, and only then asked us to fill in the registration paperwork. We arrived too early to get into our rooms, which we knew would be the case, but it was a little frustrating that they told us they'd be ready by 1 PM, and when we returned after lunch around 2 PM, only one of the 3 rooms was ready. I completely understand they need time to clean them, but I don't appreciate being given a time that has no bearing on reality. The rooms were clean, comfortable, spacious, and we particularly appreciated the shutters to close out the daylight and the minimal street noise. Bathroom was very nice as well. The breakfast buffet was a complete delight -- we were well-attended, and the items you could order off the menu in addition to the buffet were nicely sized. Fun touch having the Gregorian chants in the background. The bar at the hotel is great -- drinks were well-made, and when one night we asked about a deck of cards, someone actually ran out on a rainy night to buy a pack for us! Really neat property, and don't forget to check out their chapel from the 1600's.

They kept surprising us! Our stay got better and better! Around each corner someone else was hospitable and kind! I cannot say what a joy it was to be there.... if you’re reading this online.... look no further! Book your stay and enjoy 10 star hospitality!
A delightful first class place with exceptional service and terrific concierge services. Terrific location. Breakfast is stupendous and the staff are marvelous. A few minor “complaints” in a sea of wonder are: styrofoam to go cups—they can and should do a lot better for the environment; ditto the plastic water bottles—it would be great (although certainly more work) to have bottle of spring water filled daily; and I wish they would give you the full rundown of exceptional restaurants in Cusco rather than just promoting in restaurant group. Cicciolina, one of if not the best restaurants, in Cusco, is not in that group and you have to push to get beyond the group with which they must have an arrangement, which doesn’t strike me as truly in the interest of the guest.
Inside a old Jesuit monastery with an amazing courtyard. Service was excellent and the location is right near the Plaza de Arms in the historic town. Room was fine, but real treat was walking through the historic building.

We have spent nearly three weeks travelling Peru and I can honestly say that the Belmond Monasterio is the best hotel that we have stayed in Peru so far. From the minute you walk in you are made to feel very welcome by the very attentive staff. The location is excellent with the main square a few minutes walk away. Our room was stunning and very comfortable. The hotel is beautiful and incredibly peaceful but I have to highlight the staff. The service was fantastic and everyone was so helpful, thank you .
