Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.

The monastery is a very pretty property, exceptionally cared for & the staff is top notch snappy & friendly. Breakfast buffet sitting on the courtyard inside or outside is really nice! The courtyard garden is beautiful. My only criticism is a lack of fitness center.

Set in a former Monastery in the city of Cusco this is a little piece of paradise. All areas are set around courtyards one of which has a very old protected tree as a focal point during both day and night. Our rooms were very comfortable and well equipped, ours included a balcony . A wonderful choice of different foods for Breakfast which set us up for our day out. An excellent evening meal which included 2 wonderful Opera singers and live music for our entertainment. It was our last main dinner for our group before we all left Cusco for Lima.

A luxury hotel set in a beautifully renovated 16th century monastery. Staff were friendly and attentive. A special mention to Mario who would provide us with local recommendations each morning at breakfast, as well as Rina and Jeanette who looked after us at the day spa.

Hotel Monasterio in Cusco is truly world-class. Cusco is about 11,000 feet in altitude, but they offer oxygen supplement in rooms. Everything is superb. The manager invited us to a special cocktail party on one night, very gracious.

My daughter and I enjoyed our trip to Peru immensely. We stayed at the Hotel Monasterio in Cusco and found it to be superb. We had a magnificent suite, the staff was perfect and the chef sent us a wonderful surprise birthday cake to our room.

We visited Peru and the entire trip was spectacular. Orient-Express hotels provided exceptional service and world-class accommodations. We stayed at the Miraflores Park Hotel, Hotel Monasterio, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. All three hotels had beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurants, and a helpful friendly English-speaking staff. From now on, Orient-Express will be at the top of my list for worldwide travel.
