Belmond Hotel Monasterio in Cusco, Peru
Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.
Discover each room, hallway, and passage at the hotel, where every undiscovered nook seems to hold legendary secrets. Abutting the main square and courtyard is Illariy Restaurant, a dining retreat adorned with original paintings and art that serves distinctive Peruvian and international cuisine. Morning meals are taken in El Tupay Restaurant, and mixologists at the Lobby Bar are skilled at creating refreshing libations with the shake of a wrist. And if you are in the mood for a more private experience, simply ring for room service round-the-clock. Just a few blocks from Cusco's central square with the cathedral and many prominent museums, Belmond Hotel Monasterio provides an idyllic place to discover everything the region has to offer.

Reviews for Belmond Hotel Monasterio
We stayed here for several nights whilst visiting the area. The hotel staff, service, rooms, setting and basically everything could not be faulted. The highlight was a dinner hosted in the main restaurant with live opera. Fabulous room in the older pat of the hotel with our own secluded courtyard. Breakfast was a delight taken either indoors with gentle guitar playing behind, or in the main courtyard with the sound of the monks singing in the background. Quite surreal.

We stayed at the Belmond Hotel Monasterio for two days in early December, 2017. The hotel is perfect with nice rooms, attentive staff, and perfect location very near the main cathedral. We had dinner at the Belmond Hotel Monasterio one night and breakfast there twice. I was very happy with our choice of hotel and you definitely stay there again.

Being a old monastery makes this hotel very spectacular. The cloisters, 4 different courtyards, church etc makes you back in time but in style. Breakfast quite abundant (buffet) and staff really helpful. Very well located, many restaurants close by, shops and cultural attractions. Again they provide oxygen if required. There is massage/spa available as well as sauna. Quite expansive but worthed in my opinion.
Lovely atmospheric stay, amazing bed, room good, typical great Belmont service. Breakfast was good. Hotel has beautiful grounds but simply has no facilities. I’d probably try JW Marriott just down road if I returned.

This is a gorgeous property crafted from a former monastery and set on two interior courtyards. It is quiet and elegant, with Gregorian chant music piped softly into public areas. The rooms are extremely well appointed and comfortable, with ceiling beams, wood shutters, and Spanish colonial artwork. My family only dined here at breakfast time, but the buffet was lavish and delicious. This is one of my all time favorite hotel stays - I certainly hope to go back one day.
