Belmond Hotel Monasterio in Cusco, Peru
Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.
Discover each room, hallway, and passage at the hotel, where every undiscovered nook seems to hold legendary secrets. Abutting the main square and courtyard is Illariy Restaurant, a dining retreat adorned with original paintings and art that serves distinctive Peruvian and international cuisine. Morning meals are taken in El Tupay Restaurant, and mixologists at the Lobby Bar are skilled at creating refreshing libations with the shake of a wrist. And if you are in the mood for a more private experience, simply ring for room service round-the-clock. Just a few blocks from Cusco's central square with the cathedral and many prominent museums, Belmond Hotel Monasterio provides an idyllic place to discover everything the region has to offer.

Reviews for Belmond Hotel Monasterio
Staying at the Belmond Monestario was a magical experience. The grounds, the history and charm of this place, breakfast and setting, and the staff all come together to provide a feeling of decadence. The customer service here is impeccable -- The Belmond Hotel Monasterio could do a master class in the subject. From the minute you walk through the door, being addressed by name, every staff member shows a genuine interest and concern about how you are enjoying your stay and offers on how they can help enhance your experience. This is done in a warm professional way, never overbearing. Management is present and welcoming, attentive dining staff, concierge happy to help with restaurant bookings and even offered to help us source plane tickets to our next destination and paid with her credit card to secure the booking (when our foreign card would not process through) and allowed us to pay her back in cash. We stayed here for three nights to acclimatise prior to our Salkantay trek and eagerly decided to rebook for our return to Cusco after the trek. We came back from mud and trek tents and visiting Macchu Picchu with a 3 hour delay (due to rockslides) on the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo to walk back into the Belmond Monestario with the bags we had left behind already waiting for us in our room -- and to top it off they surprised us with most graciously upgrading us generously to the presidential suite! Wow! Thank you Belmond Hotel Monasterio for being a highlight of our wonderful visit to Cusco.

Wow what a hotel to finish off our South American expedition . I can only endorse what others have said. 7 star treatment with a smile in every department . I give this hotel 11 out 10 and it rivals some of the best hotels in the world I have stayed in. Congratulations to all the staff for producing such a high standard. I give this my strongest recommendation.
We stayed just the one night after our Inca Trail but wished we could have stayed longer. Every point of contact with the outstanding team was superb. They knew all our names and nothing was too much trouble. Drinks topped up, plates cleared, everything was unobtrusive and impeccable. This is easily one of the top hotels in the world.

This hotel use to be a monetary. They have retained the integrity of the property but have turned it into a beautiful hotel. The surrounding and internal gardens are a beautiful place to sit and you can have breakfast served in the gardens. The breakfast room has glassed walls to take in the beautiful gardens. Rooms are modern and very comfortable. Beds are large and also comfortable

I don’t even know where to begin. Imagine with me, if you will, a waiter that brings you a replacement fork, one second BEFORE you drop your original. The staff here, is just that good. I kid you not. Of all the great staff (like the concierge) whom I cannot actually remember their names, I apologize. This place is amazing. If you get the chance, stay here. Don’t ever leave! :-) I just can’t tell you how impressed I am with the FIRST class service, amazing structure, convenient location. I don’t have the words. But thank you Wibert S. for the amazing breakfast service each day. Beyond belief how great you are. Bless you Amigo, I say friend because you treat your hungry customers just like friends and family. The best. Housekeeping, doormen, concierge, how can you guys remember my name and ALL of my preferences? OHhhhhh my, dinner? Yes please! Go on a night where they have a Soprano and a Tenor. You will be awestruck. Just a million thank you for everything. A must see. Just book it now. If you’re EVER unhappy, I’ll call you a silly liar. You can’t be unhappy here. Impossible. Two thumbs up.
