About the Hotel

Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.

An Exceptional Stay in the Heart of Cusco

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Monasterio, A Belmond Hotel, Cusco is truly an extraordinary place to stay. The property is exceptional, with a beautiful atmosphere that perfectly blends colonial elegance with the rich spirit of the Inca culture. The magnificent colonial architecture, peaceful courtyards, and stunning surroundings make you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time while still enjoying every modern luxury. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, and full of character, making the stay both comfortable and unforgettable. Every member of the staff was warm, friendly, and genuinely supportive, providing outstanding service from the moment we arrived. One of the highlights of the hotel is **El Tupay**, the on-site restaurant. It offers one of the most unique dining experiences in Cusco, combining delicious cuisine with an elegant ambiance that makes the evening truly special. I highly recommend Monasterio, A Belmond Hotel, Cusco to anyone looking for luxury, history, and exceptional hospitality in one unforgettable destination.

A magic setting for a hotel

Fantastic hotel in a gorgeous setting. The way they have turned the monastery into such a beautiful luxury hotel is wonderful. The room was huge with a private patio and large bathroom. Our meal in the Tupay restaurant was excellent and the service was superb. We were lucky to be there on a night when they have opera singers and the performance was beautiful. The other restaurant, Oqre, had a lovely breakfast buffet with excellent service. The location is excellent and the staff is very attentive.

Best hotel in Cosco, Peru

Everything about this hotel was exceptional! Our first view was through the magnificent church where we checked in. Absolutely breathtaking. The staff showed me my room where a surprise birthday cake was waiting. The food was wonderful and I loved the monastery music playing in the background. Very soothing. Overall, Perfection!

Peru trip

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The Monasterio is an elegant and peaceful oasis located in the busy city of Cusco. From the manicured gardens with Gregorian chants echoing in the background while enjoying a buffet and/or a la carte breakfast, to the well appointed rooms that had extra oxygen in the air for the high altitude, and the staff with impeccable manners and expertise ready to assist in any manner needed, this hotel was a wonderful way to end our trip in Peru and decompress. I couldn't have asked for anything more. We did the cooking class which brought us to the San Pedro Market accompanied by the chef and his assistant followed by a delectable meal we prepared with the chef - cerviche with tiger's milk and lomo saktado, As well, the hotel is located in the heart of Cusco with lots of shopping as well as sites to see. I highly recommend this outstanding hotel and the exceptional staff who work there.

Hotel Monasterio in Cusco is truly world-class. Cusco is about 11,000 feet in altitude, but they offer oxygen supplement in rooms. Everything is superb. The manager invited us to a special cocktail party on one night, very gracious.

We visited Peru and the entire trip was spectacular. Orient-Express hotels provided exceptional service and world-class accommodations. We stayed at the Miraflores Park Hotel, Hotel Monasterio, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. All three hotels had beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurants, and a helpful friendly English-speaking staff. From now on, Orient-Express will be at the top of my list for worldwide travel.
