Belmond Hotel Monasterio in Cusco, Peru
Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.
Discover each room, hallway, and passage at the hotel, where every undiscovered nook seems to hold legendary secrets. Abutting the main square and courtyard is Illariy Restaurant, a dining retreat adorned with original paintings and art that serves distinctive Peruvian and international cuisine. Morning meals are taken in El Tupay Restaurant, and mixologists at the Lobby Bar are skilled at creating refreshing libations with the shake of a wrist. And if you are in the mood for a more private experience, simply ring for room service round-the-clock. Just a few blocks from Cusco's central square with the cathedral and many prominent museums, Belmond Hotel Monasterio provides an idyllic place to discover everything the region has to offer.

Reviews for Belmond Hotel Monasterio
The staff at the hotel went above and beyond to meet my families every need. No request was to small. The desk was able to help with everything from restaurant recommendations, shopping and day trips. There was a very personal touch at this hotel, that I have not experienced at other hotels. I was always greeted with a smile and often greet by name. The hotel is gorgeous and it won't be my last visit.
This is among the best hotels our family has ever visited (possibly, the world!), both in proximity to the brilliant sites Cusco has to offer, accomodating our needs as guests and boasting the friendliest, most exceptional customer service we have ever encountered. This hotel deserves to be on everyone's bucket list as a must stay location.
Wow! We spent two nights at the Belmont Monasterio. The setting is magical, and the service was excellent. Every morning Wilberth Soncco greeted us with a smile at breakfast; what a treat. Highly recommend this retreat if you're in Cuzco.
The hotel helped out with oxygen just after eating a heavy dinner. It seems that your stomach can also demand oxygen from your body as it digests food so your lungs have to share. There is opera sung at dinner time which we had never experienced before. Our stay was very nice. The food was excellent both dinner and breakfast. Center to everything downtown.

First day of a multi day adventure with the Belmond properties. Total cost for 4 days around 3,000 USD. First stop Belmond Montasterio. Small request took 5 hours to complete. Asked to speak to manager on duty. Told he was in a meeting. Absolute not the service one expects for the $$$$$$ and a designated 5 start hotel.
