Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado in Cusco, Peru
Nestled in Peru's Sacred Valley, a land once belonging to the ancient Inca Empire, you will find a stunning riverfront resort basking in this remote location. Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado is a place where past meets present, showcasing streamlined rooms that rest beneath timbered and beam ceilings. No detail is left to chance, so expect the unexpected. You will discover stylized retreats that pay homage to 13th-century Incan design, with textured walls that are cloaked in warm colors, wooden floors, terraces that gaze across the unspoiled land, and breathtaking valley and river views. Slightly tilted windows that make the most of the sun's rays are masterfully positioned above the oversize shower, creating the illusion of being in the great outdoors.
Much of the excellence of Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado experience comes from the exceptional service and amenities. El Huerto, the hotel's signature restaurant, dives into the culinary arts with a menu that showcases Peruvian cuisine, and La Cava Bar pours a lengthy list of spirits. Room service includes trays of gourmet sandwiches, soups and salads, as well as signature dishes from El Huerto. Spa Mayu Wilka, shaded by a grove of trees and framed with bouquets of wild flowers, presents a list of services packed with soothing and supple treatments. Stroll the property at your own leisure, or hop aboard the golf cart shuttle to be ferried to and from the restaurant, spa or sparkling pool. When you are not enjoying the pleasures of this pristine resort, spend the day exploring the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. At Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado, lavish comfort and fascinating Peruvian history lie in the palm of your hand.

Reviews for Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado
Stayed here for two nights while visiting Machu Picchu with my husband. The hotel was right by the bus up to Machu Picchu. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and we had views of the river! There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The hotel staff was very helpful. It was exactly what we needed after some (rainy) days hiking and exploring Machu Picchu- no frills, just comfort, clean, and safe!

The hotel is about two miles out side of Urubamba and is a good base to explore the Sacred Valley. The hotel has a lovely peaceful position down close to the river and it meets the standard that I would expect for its rating and cost. In terms of food and service and rooms (other than a booking hiccup) I have no complaints but neither would I rave about it. It did make a restful place to chill after a day out exploring the Sacred Valley The hiccup was that on arrival they had allocated us a Terrace Suite rather than the Garden Suite we had booked. As we had arrived late after a long journey I wasn't in the mood to argue and they said they were of a similar standard and in any event they didn't have a Garden Suite available. However, on looking at the Garden Suite it was, in our opinion, better laid out and felt more spacious, brighter and with better views. Thankfully they were able to move us to our booked Garden Suite for the remaining two days. One thing I would highlight is that to get to and from the rooms and restaurant there are a number of steps to negotiate and thus it might not be the best choice for those that have mobility issues, albeit the hotel does have golf buggies available. Another point to make is that the walk into town is longer than we thought and along a dirt track, so if you plan to go into town it might be better to use the hotel bicycles. I think the hotel is a safe and sound choice and I enjoyed the views and space of the Garden Suite.

The manager of this hotel seemed to be everywhere at once...ensuring perfection. However Patricia Pinillos achieved this while also using crutches after having suffered an accident. If this is what she is like when she is temporarily disabled, no wonder her hotel is so remarkable. With wonderful service from all of the staff, the Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado is an absolute delight. The accommodation, the views, the position, the breakfasts, the welcome, the restaurant (so idilic for dinner and with local musicians providing the background music earlier on during service) added up to make staying here the most relaxing hotel stay of our entire 15 days in Peru. The hotel's El Huerto restaurant was absolutely lovely...we dined there both nights. When it was time to depart for Belmond's Sanctuary Lodge from the train stop directly ouside the hotel for the journey to Aguas Calientes, I didn't want to leave. I could have happily relaxed here for a few more days so many thanks Patricia to you and all of your staff. It is just as well that the Vistadome train was so good as it needed to be after staying here. We booked our entire Peru trip direct with Belmond in Peru, staying only at Belmond properties. Ursula from Belmondâs âJourneys in Peruâ made all of our tour arrangements, down to the very last detailâŠand while other tour operators offer Peru, I really do feel that Belmond are the No 1 experts and all of the accompanied trips/tours that Belmond arranged for us were outstanding. Belmond really do have unrivalled expertise to make a visit to Peru absolutely remarkable and I have no hesitation in recommending them for creating a unique (and safe) experience taking in as many of the various âmust visitâ destinations in Peru as you can fit into your time. Belmond were incredibly reliable with all of their arrangements for us including terrific restaurant visits. One of the best was from this hotel for lunch at Huayoccari Restaurant which was a brilliant choice and quite unforgettable for all the right reasons...a unique and wonderful restaurant which is a 'must visit.' The entire Belmond experience in Peru was seamless with second-to-none attention to detail and a great way to arrive at this hotel is via the Awanakancha centre (slightly touristy but it did sell only quality Peruvian goods) and the town of Pisac. One final word... to say that Belmondâs private tour guides were all lovely, exceptionally knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend time with.
I donât tend to write many reviews of places but I make an effort where credit is due. Belmond Rio Sagrado is one of those places which stays in your mind long after youâve left. Hidden away on the outskirts of Urubamba it is truely a magical place, room was perfect (love the huge shower with a view), food was excellent (great chefs!) and staff genuinely interested in your dayâs adventures. Having the Vistadome train stop for you âon your doorstepâ makes the excursion to Machu Picchu unforgettable. Definitely recommend the horse riding excursion in Huacan to the waterfall with its amazing views. Make sure you include Rio Sagrado as part of your itinerary when visiting Peru!

My husband and I made this beautiful property our base for 5 nights while exploring the Sacred Valley. Picturesque grounds dotted with gorgeous flowers, shrubs (resident humming birds) and eucalyptus trees take you down to the rapidly flowing Urubamba River. The salt pans of Maras can be easily accessed by trail. From check in to check out, the Belmond experience was flawless; discrete, and friendly without being intrusive. Car services were easily arranged and all vehicles and drivers we encountered were of a high standard (with seat belts!). We had planned to eat at a number of nearby restaurants but were so impressed with the menus at the El Huerto restaurant that we "ate in" every night. The breakfast buffet was healthy and interesting, with a diverse range of local nuts, seeds and fruits available for ones locally made quinoa muesli. A variety of egg dishes cooked on demand were of sensible proportions and well presented. We would highly recommend any of the local trout dishes with a local Sauvignon blanc! The Spa services were excellent and fairly well priced. The two hot tubs most welcome after a long day of exploration and climbing. Rooms and bathrooms were well appointed (could do with more hooks to hang wet bathers...) with quality bedding as expected, marvellous views and a delightful turn down service (....not giving it away). Altogether an exquisite property, delivering a classic Belmond experience. Highly recommended. Enjoy!
