While the location is not to be beat, the staff here is inexperienced and very junior. The majority are young “bros,” one of whom ended up essentially lecturing me when I needed help getting into my room after my key did not work. Lots of platitudes but no professionalism at all. “Can I send you a beverage/meal etc”. No. All I needed was professional help. Not rote lines repeated over and over: “I want you to feel taken care of”. The room has seen better days. Why doesn’t management visit each room with a Mr Clean Magic Eraser?! Tons of huge scuffs across all of the walls. Seriously. This is junior high. Go to the Montage or Pelican Hill for better rooms and service.

Beautiful Facility in a Beautiful Location. The staff was gracious and accommodating. Ocean Front room was perfectly situated and nicely furnished. I booked the room using Marriott Points and upgraded to an Ocean Front room for an extra $150. It was a good investment as the Ocean view really are lovely to see from your own perspectives. The Pools, Jacuzzi, Gym, and Spa were all lovely and a needed de-stressor. Absolutely no complaints - they were perfect. I didn't spend much time in the gym but the view it afforded was spectacular. Raya - For the price it was average at best. A $32 lobster salad entree had at most 1/2 cup of lobster and the rest spinach leaves. The margarita was good but at $17 it should be. The green tea cake was good. I ended up eating in the town for the rest of my stay here. The restaurant view is spectacular. Overall a lovely resort, very well taken care of with gracious staff. I would return.

King, oceanfront room. Balcony out to the ocean below. None of that can rectify the poorly maintained facilities. The room is a 90’s time capsule. The poorly ameniated bathroom with its bath/shower unit and a shower head and tap reminiscent of Motel 6. Guess work where to find the right temperature because your interaction returns a water temperature response minutes later. The dirty grouted marble tile is almost Reto enough to come back in style. Out towards the bed, along well travelled bedroom carpet. A seat at the desk stained black with grime. The nondescript wall coverings and lighting. The pastel wall paper. The exorbitantly over priced swill served in plastic cups as we were part of a conference. The SPA! With its broken sauna and steam controls. Good luck working out how to get an even temperature in the showers. 7minutes of running water before it’s warm. It’s a joke. Go to the Montage if you insist on spending this kind of money, or, save yourself thousands and stay in any one of the motels strung along the coast with the exact same ocean views and comparable comfort. Unless you like paying $21 for 4 or 5 ounces of $12 bottle NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Oh yeah. No mini-bar! Hilarious. Stay there if you have zero interest in value and like below average accommodations.

Dear Bruce; It’s taken me a few days for Re-entry back to South Florida after my incredible experience celebrating my 50th birthday with my Father and family at your luxurious property; The Ritz- Carlton Laguna Niguel. 50 years is a big number to crunch. Especially when you still feel like you’re 20! But some other numbers have a way of keeping things in perspective. So that you don’t forget you’re really 50! For example I’m going on 20 consecutive years of earning platinum status which is a minimum of 75 nights a year with the properties. Of course now that I have achieved Starwood lifetime platinum status a few years back there’s no longer a requirement. But that also makes me feel like they are putting the old Bull out to pasture. LOL. One may think, after spending thousands of nights at hundreds of different hotels; after a while each property may blur into the next. Actually, that’s not even close to being true. Quite the opposite. The more hotels you get to experience the better you appreciate the ones that stand out as an example that others need to emulate and meet up to the standards of. The ones that stick in your mind, while hundreds or others are forgotten. Leading into the next statement, your property is one of those properties that I will never forget. It’s not just the beautiful location overlooking the Pacific ocean, the lush green grounds, the luxurious spa, and swimming pool. Nor is it the most majestic beautiful Gym I have ever seen anywhere in the world! With a view like that there’s no excuse not to go work out every day! The magic happened as soon as we pulled up to the Valet. We were greeted with such enthusiasm and professionalism. From there the check-in experience was exceptional. They knew our name, Staff came over and greeted us, and were even able to provide us with an early check in! We got a great tour of the facilities on the property by Dillon. So it was more like coming to an old friends house and having them greet you and show you around a bit. We met Mike in the spa, and I understand he was awarded five star employee recently. I can see why, when he smiles the whole room glows. We got to our room and what a beautiful Suite. We just stood there staring at the view of the ocean. And the beautiful courtyard. And despite the gray skies, we still felt such great warmth! They had such beautiful amenities in the room, but I really appreciated the personal touches of the flowers and the card wishing me a happy 50th birthday. Also there were a few very tasteful “enjoy for birthday” gifts such as the Ritz-Carlton ball cap! I really appreciate the thoughtfulness. And also later that Evening a scrumptious chocolate dessert as a perfect night cap to a beautiful day. The next morning we enjoyed a decadent brunch in Raya. They reserved table number 44 at my request. Can you believe it even the table numbers are younger than my age! The service was just lovely. And the food over joyed our pallets. It was challenging deciding which items to order from such an elaborate and creative menu. We greatly appreciated the elite platinum “later check out”. Giving us a chance to really soak in the last few moments as the sun came out and glistened on the beautiful ocean. We walked along the beach beside the hotel, and found some beautiful shells. Mementos and tokens of our incredible experience at your property. It reminded me of a beautiful story I was once told by my Grandfather before he passed on. He and I were walking on our beach on Cape Cod. And he told me one of his favorite stories of “... the young guy that was enjoying a morning jog. As he passed by the beach ne noticed a figure bending down and standing up and tossing something into the ocean each time. As curiosity got the better of him, he broke his stride and walked over to see an old man that was bending down and throwing starfish into the ocean. The night before there had been a wicked sick storm, (that’s a Bostonian expression) and it had washed up hundreds and hundreds of starfish upon the beach. Now in the sun they were dying. The young man looked at the old man and said you know there’s hundreds and hundreds of starfish here you’re never going to be able to make any difference. And the old man bent down and picked up another starfish, tossed it into the ocean. He then looked at the young man and with a chagrined smile said; well I made a difference to that one!” You see, what reminded me of that story after staying at your property was that every single one of your team members knows how to treat a guest with the Ritz-Carlton brand professionalism and yet at the same time allows himself/herself to give the warmth of the personal human touch. That makes all the difference. With so many different properties in so many different places just that one connection makes your property stand out forever in the memories of the guests. I want to give a special shout out to just a few of the Employees that demonstrated that special quality including: Blake at the front desk, Justine with Guest Sevices, and Genevieve at Raya. But the employee and team member that stands out the most for me and my family is Dillon. He has such warmth and gentleness about him. And such an earnest desire to go beyond your wildest expectations so that the experience you have at your property is an everlasting one. He made this whole experience for my family and I one that we will always cherish. I thank him and will never forget him. As a token of my gratitude, I’m arranging one of my Clients that has a wonderful bakery in Key West Florida to send some fresh Key lime Pies for your crew. These pies were voted the number one key lime pie in Key West Florida for many years running. Just a slice of heaven for you to enjoy knowing it came from a guest who hopes to spend many more nights before his 100th birthday with you again!

So it is a cool setting and the service is outstanding but do not expect an updated hotel. The rooms are small with little or no extra furnishings. Our ocean front room had one small club chair and a small desk. The bathroom is small with little space for a shaving kit. Shower head and shower pressure were terrible. You get more water pressure at a camp ground. Very disappointing. You will fall in love with the setting and views even though your balcony is a ledge, but the rooms are dated and the bathrooms need substantial work.
