Dunton Hot Springs in Dolores, Colorado

Just across the mountain from Telluride, Dunton Hot Springs is a beautiful destination you will find difficult to ever leave. Located in a remote area of Dolores, Colorado and surrounded by the scent of Ponderosa pine, this rustic hideaway is situated near the "Four Corners" - the area where Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona intersect in the wilderness. The area, formerly a gold rush town, is now an enclave of 400-plus acres surrounded by a pair of national forests in the San Juan Mountains. The area is primed for an array of activities, including hiking, snowshoeing, heli-skiing and so much more.

Dunton Hot Spring's guest cabins are the real thing - 19th-century hand-hewn log buildings once occupied by miners and meticulously restored by local and Native American craftsmen. Each is unique, yet all share incredible views, luxurious amenities and completely private settings. The resort's lounge, dining area, hot springs, bathhouse, and massage and yoga rooms are all just a short walk away. Dining features gourmet preparation and ingredients, as acclaimed chefs serve up fresh seafood and organic beef, lamb and produce.

My husband and I had our elopement at Dunton and it was INCREDIBLE. The staff accommodated to our every need with smiles on their faces, the facility was heaven, and the food was to die for! Such an amazing experience. My husband I actually even extended our stay the day we were meant to leave!

What a fabulous five nights at Dunton Hot Springs to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The service and hospitality was spot on, the drinks quenching, the food amazing, the setting tranquil, and all the staff approachable, likable and genuine! This place is the real deal and worth every penny! We will absolutely be back...with friends and family next time :)

Excellent food and drink...all you want. Very friendly and attentive service. Lovely setting, very comfortable room, bed, shower. They brought fresh towels and turned down the bed while we were at dinner. Unsure how single bad reviewer could have not gotten enough food or managed to damage his car. Very expensive, but you know that before you get there.

We got married at Dunton and could not have picked a more magical place! The food was delicious and the service was out of this world! The staff is so friendly, they make you feel right at home from the minute you walk in. Can’t wait to come back to this special place. Thank you Dunton for making our day one to remember!

We'd driven by a few years ago on our way to go hiking, and noticed what looked like a broken-down old ghost town - I was astonished to discover later that it was actually a fancy resort. I'd always wanted to visit, so I looked into a short trip to celebrate our anniversary. To my delight, management was kind enough to waive the two-night minimum (since we only had time for one), and when we arrived, they upgraded us to a much nicer cabin, with a bottle of wine waiting for us. (The advantage of visiting during shoulder season!) Every single staff member we encountered was helpful and friendly, the cabin was lovely (it's really something, how all the buildings look rustic on the outside but are elegant and comfortable inside!), and the food was exquisite - beautifully complemented by the wine, and the special dessert that we requested, creme brulee, was perfect. True, April activities are limited, but we had a pleasant couple of hours hiking on the sometimes-snowy winter trail. The mountains are always beautiful to look at, and we warmed up afterward in the hot springs. We left with a packed lunch to enjoy on the way home - we stopped by the river in Dolores for a picnic and savored our last taste of Dunton. I'm completely sold on this place and looking forward to another visit sometime.
