Dunton Hot Springs in Dolores, Colorado

Just across the mountain from Telluride, Dunton Hot Springs is a beautiful destination you will find difficult to ever leave. Located in a remote area of Dolores, Colorado and surrounded by the scent of Ponderosa pine, this rustic hideaway is situated near the "Four Corners" - the area where Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona intersect in the wilderness. The area, formerly a gold rush town, is now an enclave of 400-plus acres surrounded by a pair of national forests in the San Juan Mountains. The area is primed for an array of activities, including hiking, snowshoeing, heli-skiing and so much more.

Dunton Hot Spring's guest cabins are the real thing - 19th-century hand-hewn log buildings once occupied by miners and meticulously restored by local and Native American craftsmen. Each is unique, yet all share incredible views, luxurious amenities and completely private settings. The resort's lounge, dining area, hot springs, bathhouse, and massage and yoga rooms are all just a short walk away. Dining features gourmet preparation and ingredients, as acclaimed chefs serve up fresh seafood and organic beef, lamb and produce.

It must be said: my wife and I are definitely adventurers and never thought that we'd enjoy an all inclusive experience. We've never been on a cruise and don't plan on taking one anytime soon. Having said that, what Dunton provides is quite possibly the best, most unique, most custom, easiest going, yet fulfilling experience either one of us has ever had. The Dunton staff's ability to remember everyone by name and cater to their needs while coming across as easy going friends totally alludes me. Anyway...this is all to say that Dunton Hot Springs is an unbelievably amazing place to relax, adventure, eat, and drink.

I agree with a lot of the positives people have shared here. No need to echo all of them. I do want to point out a few things I didn't like, as this was a very expensive place: 1. Meals. I did not like that we had to sit at the same table with all the other guests at the same time. I would have preferred to sit in private since this was supposed to be a romantic stay. This lack of intimate dining and more of a group event made for awkward conversation that I would have preferred to use that time with my significant other. There was also not many restricted diet accommodations. 2. Kids. Parents who bring their children here and let them run around the grounds screaming and jumping in and out of the springs like it's a water park really made the stay that much more unpleasant -- harder for us to enjoy. 3. The location. I get the location and uniqueness from a historical perspective, but clearly that's not what people care about here, nor do I. I will likely find a place a fraction of the cost that is less time consuming to get to, that is closer to other things yet still secluded.

This place is an absolute dream. I’m so glad I ran across Dunton on the Internet while searching for honeymoon destinations in the US. The staff is amazing. Every cabin is amazing. The hot springs are so beautiful and so relaxing. We cant wait for our next trip out. Worth the amount of money to stay and you just never know who your going to meet there!
