Hawks Cay Resort

Stayed here a few months ago with our kids. Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly: THE GOOD: Large resort and pool complex, which is rare in the Keys (bigger than Isla Bella, Baker's Cay, Playa Largo, Casa Marina, etc.) Food at Salt + Ash is very good. Saltwater lagoon is unique and kids loved it. THE BAD: Gym/spa is a long hike from the main hotel. Salt + Ash is only open 5 days a week, so nighttime dinner options can be limited. Everything is expensive. Some condo units are apparently in rough shape (we stayed in the hotel, and were warned against rolling the dice on a condo.) Organized activities are very spotty and many were cancelled without notice. THE UGLY: Staff are truly below average; read all of the reviews, and this comes up over and over again. They seem miserable, and some are outright hostile to guests. Management really needs to clean house. Also, the entire hotel is a construction site at the moment. So overall: considering the price point, poor staff, and inconsistent amenities, we won't be coming back. The large pool complex is the main draw, but they really waste it by falling short almost everywhere else. We much prefer Casa Marina or Baker's Cay. If we absolutely had to be in the Middle Keys, we'd consider Isla Bella, though that place also has a very mixed reputation.

This is our fourth trip coming to Hawks Cay! We fell in love the moment we stepped foot on the beautiful property and have made every effort to come back as often as we can. It’s always such an amazing time for our family! The accommodations are top notch and the amenities are a dream. We’ve stayed in the Family Oasis’s suite at the resort the first three years and tried a three bedroom villa this visit. Both choices are comfortable for our family of four. We love coming down to relax and play by the amazing pool! My son spends all day playing in the lagoon and my husband and daughter play in the main resort pool. The staff are incredible! Donnie always has a welcoming smile when we arrive to the pool each day and is more than happy to help us get settled for a fun day by the pool, helping us move umbrellas and find toys/floats for a day of play. The wait staff by the pool are so attentive and friendly too!

Great little weekend getaway, less than 2 hours from Miami. Very DVC feel which was a plus. Upscale but relaxed. We got a junior suite overlooking the pool and it was very comfy. Special shoutout to Yarlenny at the front desk that made sure our anniversary weekend was as perfect as it could be. Also, Lexi at the Tiki Grill was delightful. Dinner at Angler & Ale was really nice too. Thank you!

Great thing for the kids to do after spending a morning in the pool! The staff was awesome!

When I say top-tier service, THIS is exactly what I mean! From the moment we arrived until the time we departed, the entire experience was nothing short of AMAZING. A huge shout-out to the three incredible ladies who made our visit extra special: Shenelle, Karen, and especially Chelsea! These ladies went above and beyond to ensure that my family and I had an unforgettable time. Their warmth, professionalism, attention to detail, and outstanding customer service deserve to be celebrated. They truly deserve all the recognition and appreciation coming their way My family hasn’t stopped talking about the experience, and that alone speaks volumes! When service is this good, you know it’s something special. Ladies, thank you for making our time so memorable. We appreciate you more than words can say, and we’ll definitely be back!
