Since we arrived in torrential rain - which continued throughout our one night stay on our trip between Key Largo and Key West - that may have colored my perception of this resort. Know before you go - if like us, you encounter bad weather - the fitness area and the spa are both in another building, a golf cart ride away. Since you surrender your car to the valet at check-in, there is really no good way to get there except in an open golf cart - which didn't appeal to me and my friend in the pouring rain. Since the pool, beach area, and other recreational facilities were all 86ed because of the rain, we basically saw the inside of our not very large two queen bed room and Alma, the hotel restaurant. Since we had a wonderful experience having dinner that evening at Alma, I'll deal with that in a separate review and give it a separate rating. We were in the north building, which I think is probably older. Bathrooms have been updated and are fairly nice, and we appreciated the extra pegs to hold wet towels and our comfy bathrobes. All in all, it wasn't a bad stay - just frustrating because you go to a resort to use its nice facilities (for which you are paying a resort fee) - not just sit in your room!

Our recent stay at Hawks Cay was overall very nice but it came with a price. We stayed in a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath villa in the Sunset Village which was a nice home away from home but VERY SMALL! Bedrooms were so tight you had no floor space to open suitcases! Location of villa was awesomely close one of the resorts quieter pools but a LONG walk to the main pool/lagoon/restaurant area. "Free" resort tram wasn't working while we were there-replaced by a golf cart only able to transport a few guests at a time. Daily resort fee charged over and above nightly charges covered very few amenities or us. Dolphin swimming, bike rentals, kayak/paddle board rentals all were extra costs. Families with younger children may find that they get "more for their money" if they use the kids club activities. Food and drinks at restaurants and pool side were expensive and not great. We did have a great lunch at Angler and Ale. It has a beautiful view and delicious, creative food. Housekeeping was subpar. The cleaning crew came at 9 am each morning wanting to change out used towels and take out bagged trash-nothing more.

We decided to stay in the main hotel so we would be closer to the pool ...less back and forth for us. We had a large bed and a set of bunk beds. It reminded me of Great Wolf Lodge how we were all jammed in there. No balcony. The bathroom was very large. The property is spacious and we all found something to do to keep us busy. It was clean. We did the dolphin swim and it's neat to just go say hi to them. I guess I can say I've been there. It wasn't like omg I have to go back. I didn't fall in love with it.

My husband my mother and I went to Alma restaurant at Hawks Cay Resort . Our dinner was amazing, and the service was exceptional! Danishia our server was very friendly and informative. The wine choice she recommended was perfect. Could not have enjoyed a meal any better. Superb!!!

Beautiful resort. Stayed four nights and absolutely loved this place. Very family friendly on one side and very private on the other. They offer swimming with the dolphins, paddle boarding, and kayaking. I will definitely go back. J Lewis
