Just OK not worth 400+ a night. We stayed a week at Cheeca lodge (highly recommend) and decided to extend our stay and stay a extra night at Hawks since friends have said good things about it. We were underwhelmed. Dirty carpet in the room hardly any towels. The spas were cold and did not bubble. Seems like the place is more geared for kids and not very relaxing for adults. The bar drinks were just ok and expensive! I've never seen a resort at this price point that makes you check pool towels in and out thought that was odd. There are better options out there for sure that make you feel like a guest and include way more in the resort fee. Also keep in mind they charge 200 a night for indentials. Ties up a lot of free money especially when everything pretty much is extra at the resort. Someone got stuck in the elevator and we had no power or a/c for a hour or so this was just before check out and it got warm. Also we had a issue at check out where our boat trailer was blocked in by a lg offshore boat it took some time to get someone to more all the trailers so we could check out left the hotel at 1 instead of 11 ugh! Had to ask to have the parking fee waved 30 said they would but have not yet. Won't be coming back not worth it!!!

The place needs to close down and brought up to par. It's nice but old, but the prices did not go down. The place needs more than just a paint job. I would not call this a resort when half of the amenities are out of service

Hawks Cay is definitely geared for families. Easy to get to, good restaurants/food, dolphins onsite, lagoon for paddle boarding/swimming, several pools, and a kids club. There is an adult pool for those who do not bring kids. We stayed in a 2 bedroom Villa at the end of the property which made it a little inconvenient getting around but there is a shuttle that circles the property every 15 min or so. The Villa was nice, clean, and had private dipping pool in the back patio.

If you want peace and quiet, this is not your resort in the summer time. Lots of families and kids (no way would I get into the pool) because there is so much to do. We did have the penthouse suite--beautiful room but they would not allow us to have a coffee pot like the other rooms that were $1000 a day less. This really surprised us. Service around the adult pool was slow (but we were there on a busy weekend). The staff was over the top! The fishing was incredible there. The blue water was amazing. The hotel restaurants were very expensive but so were a lot of other restaurants. I used Trip Advisor for all of my restaurant choices and they never let me down. I am reviewing most of them and all but one are getting five stars. I am not rating this hotel as a five as the price I paid for my penthouse suite should have come with coffee at 5 am not just free coupons for a shop that did not even open until after 7 (and we were on the water well before that time).

Since we arrived in torrential rain - which continued throughout our one night stay on our trip between Key Largo and Key West - that may have colored my perception of this resort. Know before you go - if like us, you encounter bad weather - the fitness area and the spa are both in another building, a golf cart ride away. Since you surrender your car to the valet at check-in, there is really no good way to get there except in an open golf cart - which didn't appeal to me and my friend in the pouring rain. Since the pool, beach area, and other recreational facilities were all 86ed because of the rain, we basically saw the inside of our not very large two queen bed room and Alma, the hotel restaurant. Since we had a wonderful experience having dinner that evening at Alma, I'll deal with that in a separate review and give it a separate rating. We were in the north building, which I think is probably older. Bathrooms have been updated and are fairly nice, and we appreciated the extra pegs to hold wet towels and our comfy bathrobes. All in all, it wasn't a bad stay - just frustrating because you go to a resort to use its nice facilities (for which you are paying a resort fee) - not just sit in your room!
