Chose to celebrate my 39th birthday here last 3rd–6th November as a full circle moment, as I celebrated my 30th here in 2016. It was also our daughter’s first time to visit and a quick family getaway, as we had just relocated to Scotland as well. Everything had been prepped by my husband in advance. Pros: Cameron House’s setting and the banks of Loch Lomond are just beautiful. The pool is great, it’s clean, the temperature is comfortable, it’s well-staffed, and the children’s pool is perfect if you’ve got kids. Now, the important things: On the first night, we discovered a water leak on the ceiling of our room, which made me slip in the middle of the night! We reported this and were moved to an equivalent room, so it was handled, but nonetheless disappointing to experience, particularly on the first night. This was in the new wing. Cake: My husband exchanged emails a few weeks before our visit to discuss a surprise birthday cake for me. He sent the cake order form to concierge ahead of our arrival. It was supposed to be delivered during our meal at Cameron Grill, but he was told by the manager that they didn’t know anything about it. They then said they’d correct this by sending a cake to our room. A cake did arrive, but it was frozen solid and inedible. I emailed concierge about this immediately (including a video), but as of now, I have received zero response. Food safety/general food quality: The food in The Tavern is below average. We also visited La Vista for a meal and were overall disappointed with the quality of the food. More seriously, we ordered a pasta dish for our toddler which we returned as it had a soapy/metallic taste. Our suspicion was that the dish it was served in wasn’t cleaned properly, which contaminated the food and it was alarming given it was for our child. The server took it away. This was definitely a food safety issue. Pre-ordered birthday box: My husband ordered this in advance. It was missing a bottle of wine, and rather than being delivered in a “hamper fit for the occasion,” it was delivered in a recycled “uniform donation box.” Totally unacceptable and completely taints the experience. Responsiveness: Throughout our stay we sent various emails to the concierge and reservations mailbox. We also requested a restaurant reservation via WhatsApp. These were all information advertised on the room TV screen and key fob flyers. We received zero responses to any of these. We also responded to a “how was your stay?” email from Cameron House a few days after our visit, including all these mishaps, but received no response for more than a week. Even now, it’s December already, and still nothing. Staff professionalism: Generally, we found staff professional. However, one evening when we ordered room service, the staff member delivering it made an attempted light-hearted comment about how heavy it was to carry and deliver our tray of food. But the tone just didn’t quite land, and it actually came across as quite unprofessional. Then the following evening, the same waiter made a similar remark during our meal at Cameron Grill. Mind you, the room service comes with a ridiculous extra “tray charge.” Overall, we remain appalled by the lack of communication and acknowledgment regarding the many issues we experienced, especially since these were raised through the hotel’s own feedback channels. What should have been a special birthday and family celebration was unfortunately tainted by avoidable mistakes and a complete absence of follow-up.

Our stat was lovely, Christopher met on arrival, he took our luggage and parked the car. Both him and Jake from the breakfast team, are a credit to your hotel. They go above and beyond to help and care for your every need.

Having booked a night at the Cameron House as a surprise Wedding Anniversary celebration for my wife, I had been a little apprehensive, however, I needn’t have worried. From the minute we arrived until we checked out, we were treated with politeness and respect by each and every member of staff, all of whom were genuinely eager to assist and make our stay a memorable one. The Suite we had been allocated within the Auld House was spacious, comfortable and very well appointed, a touch of luxury. The food quality and choice was excellent (we had chosen to eat at both La Vista and the Cameron Grill). The hotel was spotlessly clean, from the room and dining areas, to the Leisure Club Facilities. We had a truly amazing time and look forward to returning soon. Thank you to all of the staff for a truly amazing and memorable occasion.

The rooms are lovely, the food was good and the facilities for kids are great. However the hotel is operating with at least 1/3 fewer staff than it needs. Check in was chaotic (4pm is super late for check in), queues of people everywhere. Luggage storage was a shambles. Restricted menu at the tavern and food took ages. No table service and drinks made and sitting on the side at great Scot’s bar. Breakfast has long queues and some of our party were even told that they couldn’t have breakfast as the queue was too long. In addition, there was a whole meal charged that wasn’t ours. Luckily we checked the bill. The staff they have are great and hard working but the place needs an operational overhaul. Super sad to see it as it’s a great place to visit with family - we experienced exactly the same issues at new year last year and despite completing feedback forms then there was no improvement. Not sure we’ll be back. A few suggestions as follows: - have clearer parking and charge people for valet parking so there isn’t a constant back up of people waiting for cars - send bills by email/under the door offering a quick and easy checkout - make use of the extra terminals to have a smoother check in and out experience - open another option for breakfast eg in the tavern or the spa cafe - more bar staff with a clearer system on who is waiting tables/making drinks/clearing tables etc - have someone permanently stationed at the luggage storage
