Reviews for Cameron House on Loch Lomond

Beautiful hotel and grounds, but disappointing food

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Cameron House is a beautiful hotel set in truly stunning grounds. It was the final hotel of our Scotland tour, so we had been looking forward to ending our trip on a high note. Unfortunately, the food was a real disappointment, particularly the room service. A member of our group became seriously unwell with food poisoning on two separate occasions after eating food from the hotel. We did not eat anywhere outside the hotel during our stay. I also found the room service underwhelming. My order did not arrive as requested; instead, the chef appeared to have prepared something different from what I had specifically ordered. This was frustrating, particularly at a hotel of this standard. The grounds themselves are exceptional and the setting is beautiful. With some improvement to the food quality Cameron House could be a truly outstanding experience.

Afternoon tea

Tabitha made us feel incredibly welcome during afternoon tea. She was so accommodating to my 2 year old daughter and made our afternoon so lovely - thank you Tabitha!!

Anything but a 5 star spa

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

This facility is anything but 5 stars , from multiple Broken lockers , changing rooms in sweltering heat due to no air con , substandard hairdryers, old dated & rusted facilities, chipped steps in pool , cracked ceilings covered in mould & multiple things out of a order on our visit. The lack of basic maintenance and hygiene was appalling

Beautiful family hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My husband and I have just returned from a weekend break at Cameron House, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have stayed here before with our children, but this time it was just the two of us. Previously, we stayed in the main hotel, which has a more traditional feel, whereas this time we stayed in the newer part of the hotel. Our room had a balcony, which was a lovely touch, particularly with the beautiful surroundings. The new part of the hotel is stunning, the beds are really comfortable and the front-facing balconies are a real bonus if you get the weather. We had an amazing meal in the Grill Room. The steak was honestly the best steak I have ever had, so hats off to the chefs! A special mention also has to go to Jayden, who looked after us. He was such a polite young man and really took care of his guests. He is a credit to the team. The leisure facilities are lovely and our children absolutely loved them when we stayed previously. Of course, the grounds and location speak for themselves. It’s Loch Lomond, so you’re surrounded by incredible scenery wherever you look. One thing we were particularly impressed with this time was the amount of activities and games available for children. There were lots of games set up on the lawn in front of the Tavern, which we thought was a fantastic addition. It actually made us want to come back with the children next time, as it felt like there would be plenty for them to do, especially if the weather was nice and dry. We felt there was much more of a family focus this time compared with our previous stay, which was great to see. The only area I would say could be improved is staff knowledge. We noticed this on our previous stay too. Some staff members are clearly quite new and, when asked a question, would say that they weren’t sure because they were new. That’s completely understandable, but unfortunately, we sometimes found that rather than checking with another team member or finding out the answer, the conversation just ended there. This happened when we were trying to find out about the Christmas Santa lunch. We were keen to book an overnight stay on the date it was taking place and get everything paid for while we were there, but nobody seemed to know the date or details. I asked if someone could contact the events team to find out, and I was told my details would be passed on, but unfortunately I’m still waiting for a call. It’s a shame because we were ready to book there and then. Aside from that, we had a lovely stay. Cameron House is a gorgeous hotel in an incredible location, and the new part is particularly beautiful. We will definitely be back, and this time we hope to bring the children with us. It’s great to see more family-orientated activities being offered, as that was something we felt was missing on our previous visit. A beautiful hotel, fantastic food, stunning surroundings and lots to enjoy. We look forward to coming back.
