2 night stay in Cameron House (don't forget your wallet)

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 11 hours ago

Stayed for 2 nights at hotel for the first time for my wife's birthday. Really enjoyed our time at the hotel. Check-in wasn't until 4pm which I think is really late for a check in tbh. Went to the Tavern Bar before we checked in for some food and a couple of drinks. Tavern Bar was nice and had some small plates which were expensive for what you are getting (common theme in hotel). Our room was a double which was a nice size and included slippers and bathrobes. Usual story with pillows in hotels, we had to ask at reception for proper pillows (why do hotels insist in having these duck feather pillows). We ate in the Cameron Grill first night which was expensive but I suppose you are paying for where you are. Food was nice (8/10). Breakfast is also in the Cameron Grill - first morning was fine but 2nd morning was queued out the door and very very busy. Breakfast is a buffet set up and the food was nice and fresh with great selection of other items as well. My wife had booked a massage in the Spa which is about a 5 min drive from hotel. I went to use the pool/thermal experience and was charged £42 for the privilege. 2nd night we ate in La Vista which was lovely just 5 min walk from hotel. Nice selection of Italian food and nice ambiance. The staff at the hotel were very friendly, but being that we spent over £1000 for 2 nights I cannot see us rushing back although we did really enjoy our stay.

Danielle’s 30th birthday treat.

Our stay at Cameron House Hotel was truly remarkable. Our concierge, Jimmy Nairn, was exceptionally helpful, kind, courteous, and polite. He certainly improved our experience by taking great care of us, he went above & beyond. The views and walks around the Loch were breathtaking, the accommodation was outstanding and the restaurants and spa resorts provided delightful fine dining experiences and a relaxing atmosphere for wellbeing. In terms of value for money, you get what you pay for & our experience was priceless. Thank you Jimmy Nairn & Cameron House Hotel, we’ll definitely be back. Ann & Danielle xx

Disappointing: A 5 Star Hotel with a 1 Star Attitude

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This establishment simply does not deliver a 5-star experience, and I strongly recommend going elsewhere if that is your expectation. The physical property is beautiful and the location is exceptional. However, the experience was completely undermined by the staff. The service attitude, particularly from the Front of House team, was consistently poor. We had two distinct, unacceptable incidents: On our first night, we were insulted by a member of staff. On our final morning, our car was deliberately blocked in by staff members. The only exception was the dining experience at Loma, which was fabulous, but is notably not managed by the hotel. The hotel's own service standards urgently need review.

Utter luxury for a big birthday weekend

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Just home from a brilliant first stay at Cameron House. The building and location is absolutely stunning. On our first morning, the mist was in over the Loch and it just made it even more atmospheric. The parking is valet style, so we just arrived at the front door and the car was sorted for us. The signage in the grounds isn't the most intuitive and initially we went to another entrance, but we will know for next time. The staff were exceptionally friendly the entire stay. We stayed in one of the suites (room 21) in the old building and...wow. It was the nicest room I've ever stayed in and absolutely huge, with great views. The room was immaculately clean and well kept with a good mini bar, coffee machine, TVs and plenty of space to relax. I particularly liked that during the turning down service, they left out bottles of water and glasses at each side to the bed. It was a lovely touch. We took our dog with us and were made to feel welcomed the entire time. They provide a dog bed, bowls, towel and treats along with specific door signs you could leave on to say that the dog was in the room on their own. We were able to take him on a walk to Balloch, then sat in the lounge by reception for drinks. There are a few places they can't go, but this didn't cause us any issues. The first night, we went to La Vista by the marina for dinner. It was lovely Italian food and the dog was made welcome too. The next night we went to the Grill. Dogs aren't allowed here, but that wasn't an issue as he was happy enough in the room. The food here was brilliant. I had the venison and my partner had the steak which were both absolutely beautiful. The best bit of the meal though was our server, Caitlin. She was so friendly, had great chat and really made the night special. The Great Scots Bar is stunning, with a lovely atmosphere. The service at first was a bit slow, but it was nice and relaxing and I thought the cocktails were a reasonable price for such a hotel. On our arrival night we went to The Tavern. It was ok, a lot more relaxed and was dog friendly. I found the music there really loud and it was difficult to chat. I would probably skip that next time, but it was something different to the more formal places elsewhere. I would love to come back again for a few days. This was for a big birthday, so we were pushing the boat out, but I had such a relaxing time, I know I'll be back. The only thing I would improve is the valet parking. The team doing this are great, really friendly and busy. The one thing is that the system isn't that intuitive and there aren't any signs telling you how to arrange to get your car back. We settled our bill about an hour before checkout and asked at reception how to get the car back, which was sorted quickly but others checked out and expected their car back instantly and were getting visibly irritated at having to wait (especially around check out time when everyone was waiting). I wondered if you could have an automated system where you can phone from the room and that requests your car back for you in the next 30 mins or so? But this is just a minor thing and I will know for next time. I can't wait to come back.
