Reviews for Cameron House on Loch Lomond

Poor service, poor communication, poor hotel!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 hours ago

There aren’t enough words to fully describe how disappointing our stay was, but I’ll try. 1. The Tavern (first night): After waiting over an hour and a half for our meal, we were informed mid-service that the kitchen had run out of chicken. Instead of addressing this properly, they attempted to serve three of us meals without the chicken, seemingly hoping we wouldn’t notice. Completely unacceptable. 2. La Vista: We had to ask four times for our drinks while staff stood around chatting amongst themselves. To make matters worse, I was given an odd look simply for asking for a spoon with my soup. The lack of attentiveness and basic service was astonishing. 3. Transport / Car service: The final and most frustrating experience — after standing around for over an hour waiting for one of our cars, we were then told the keys had been lost. The issue was eventually resolved by reviewing security footage from the previous day to find out what was done with them, but this process took four hours, during which there was no practical solution or meaningful communication offered. While there are parts of the hotel that look nice, this is by no means a 5-star experience, closer to 3. Breakfast was mediocre and clearly designed for mass service rather than quality or comfort, think Premier Inn, but without the value for money, which sums up the whole place to be honest.

Avoid , injury caused through fault of hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

One night stay early December as family of four. Unfortunately my 4year old tripped over a carpet bar in the room which caused her to fall and sustain an injury to her foot. First aid kit was provided as requested and management have apologised and advised they will replace the at fault bar. We asked for a room refund due to the injury sustained due to dangerous carpet bar but they refused , which was extremely disappointing given the cost of staying in this hotel which claims to be 5star and family friendly. Ultimately the room was unsafe and my child was hurt due to their carelessness. We were offered to return to use the leisure facilities free of charge as we couldn’t make use of these the next day due to my daughter’s injury. Otherwise the room was spacious, breakfast was good and Christmas decorations were nice. Would not advise anyone to visit and am extremely disappointed with the lack of consideration shown by the management.

A wonderful festive experience. Thankyou

We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at Cameron House. This is the first time we have been away for Christmas and it was a spectacular experience. Beautiful setting on the shore of the loch with views over hills in the distance. We took our little dog and she was welcomed by everyone. Our room was in a high turret, with a balcony overlooking the loch. We had room 230, a suit with a sofa, massive bed, and free standing bath in the room. We had breakfast on Christmas morning, outside on the balcony, wrapped in jumpers and sipping champagne. It was fantastic. From our balcony we watched Santa arriving by boat and heard the children shouting for him on the loch shore. The food was delicious and plentiful. We had our Christmas lunch in the La Vista restaurant at the marina, starting with champagne and canapés and a three course lunch that was delicious. Our dog was welcomed. The hotel is beautiful and like a Christmas grotto, full of trees and wreaths it made one feel christmassy the minute you walked through the doors. More than anything however was the welcome and kindness from all staff without exception. All staff who had given up their Christmas with their families to make our stay special, and they did. So thank you Cameron House!

Terrible Check-in & Service So Far

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Sadly, my daughter and I checked in here tonight on Christmas. We travelled all the way from California and were so excited to arrive. The valet man was lovely. But checking in at the front desk, we encountered a woman too busy to give us much information about the hotel or whether we needed reservations for any of the restaurants or activities. She rushed us through checkin and told us to read about it on the tv from our room. When we found our room, there was a lovely welcome platter of chocolate on the table that I had pre-ordered to surprise my daughter for Christmas. But next to it was a half-empty small bottle of milk. And in the fridge was a half drunk bottle of water. Then we tried to pull up the dining options on the tv as the woman told us to do. We scanned the QR code which took us to options. We clicked on room service and tried to access the menus, but we received error messages after trying multiple times. We dialed the extension “2414” it gave us to call room service. That line was dead. Again, we tried multiple times to no avail. We then called the front desk and asked if we could have unopened bottles of water and milk and if someone could take away the half-drunk bottles. We had to call twice to remind them since nobody came after the first call. The front desk then connected us to room service and the guy said he could try to walk us through the menu over the phone. I asked if we could have a physical menu to look at. He said he’d send one when he had time as he was working on five orders ahead of us. I told him we just wanted to know what was on the menu so we could decide if we were going to go to the pub, try the traditional Christmas dinner or room service. He said it might be awhile. I expressed my unhappiness about not being able to get information about our dining options and he was rude but said he’d send a menu when he could. The woman who brought us water and milk for the chocolates was friendly and tried to get the menu on the tv to work, but it didn’t work for her either and she said the number they listed was wrong and suggested we try another number “2411” I think. By then my daughter was upset with me because I was becoming frustrated by feeling like the hotel staff was too busy on Christmas to provide information or service to us. With that, my daughter went to the pub alone to find food and I’m going to sleep. Christmas night is ruined after us being so excited to finally get here. It’s too bad they don’t have working QR codes or enough staff to help their paying guests. Seems like other people come just for dinner and maybe they are getting good service but as a paying hotel guest, this was perhaps the worst checkin experience I’ve ever had. Probably what we should’ve expected for traveling at a busy time of year like Christmas.

Well Done !!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Fabulous place just returned after a 2 night stay , the staff were so friendly and professional nothing was too much trouble , the atmosphere was amazing within the hotel and the loch views make it truly a place to slow down and relax . The Cameron Spa was pristine and the food at the grill for both breakfast and dinner was very good and service prompt and friendly. LOMA by Michelin-starred chef Graeme Cheevers offers a gastronomic experience that delights in every way . Well done and thank you to each and every member of staff working there, you truly are a credit to the running of this beautiful elegant hotel . We will be back in January. X
