Cameron House on Loch Lomond

Another incredible trip to stay at Cameron house hotel - maybe even the best one yet! We started off after a quick bite at the marina (the prawn marie rose roll was so good!) with a great round of golf on the wee demon course which was in great condition, especially considering all the rain. The wee demon shouldn't be looked down upon just because it's a 9 hole course, it was really fun and a good wee challenge. We then a brilliant 4 x 4 experience with Scott through '4 x 4 adventures'; off roading up the nearby hills to get an incredible view over Loch lomond at the top. And a lovely refreshment to toast the view - my first time having auchentoshan 3 wood. After a quick shower and change we had dinner at the Cameron House grill - the best food I've had in a long time! The service was so good and the quality of food sensational! The whole team made our dining experience fantastic - thanks especially to rebekah. & then we rounded off by shooting some pool & having some beers in the sports bar watching the football before a nightcap cocktail in the stunning Great Scots Bar. Extra shout out to the barman for making an incredible 'off the menu' whisky sour. After a slap up breakfast it was off to use the leisure facilities - a nice wee sauna and a dip in the hot tub to freshen up. One of the things I love most about Cameron house is the level of luxury but the down to earth friendly service from all the staff - debbie on the front desk was a hoot, and the concierge team were always on hand to help or dish out a quick bit of funny banter. I can't wait to go back (again!)

Went recently for afternoon tea and was so dissappointed. On arrival parking was shocking for the size of place fortunately we were driving out to park on street when someone was coming out. There is no denying the grounds are beautiful and well maintained and this is where the 5 star experience stops. There is a lot of staff mulling around very busy and the valet was the only one asking if he coud help instructing us to go in the door we stood waiting to find out where to go. Seated at reserved table and given menus. There was about another 6 tables being used and the amount of people asking for food or for afternoon tea and disapoointed becuse it needs to be pre booked was alot this was even for residents. Needs better advertising of no food sold here. Now the food a small very luke warm sausage roll, 4 finger dried out sandwiches each which had clearly been sitting uncovered for a while as very hard bread. Fillings were basic and very little, 2 small oatcakes ,cakes extremely small (macaron was smaller than 10p) and lastly scones looked nice but very heavy doughy and undercooked that stuck to roof of mouth definately not worth £50 per head. This was a present that I gave to person with me I could have got better for £100. I gave 1 star for surroundings and 1 star for staff who were very pleasant. Not a 5 star experience which other places master better.

Make no mistake, the Cameron House Hotel is HUGE and has a corporate feel. It is not the quaint castle shown in the photos. There's a massive modern addition. We stayed in the older part, but it still felt like a Marriott...not the look and feel we had expected. That Saturday night, a wedding and a charity ball were going on...people everywhere. We were not made to feel special - - we were just another few bodies spending the night. We stayed in what they call a family room with a queen bed and a separate room with two bunk beds. It was lovely, very clean, with a view of the lake, and perfect for us. There was a cute box of toiletries and packets of puzzles and games for the kids. Beautiful, manicured grounds. So, the room itself was great. The negatives: carpets in the hallway are frayed - - not a good look. The buffet breakfast is like eating in a college cafeteria - - packed with people, noisy, virtually no service and average-at-best food. We ate at LaVista for dinner and it was no better.

A truly wonderful place. I accompanied my husband on a business trip and had the most amazing time. The hotel and surroundings were beautiful, staff attentive and super friendly and the views over the lake are like no other. Rooms very comfortable with all you would expect and food outstanding.

I lived there as a child when it was a private house belonging to the Telford-Smollett's. Now nearing 80, decided with friends to day visit and see what the years have done, to the old house and estate? The place (Hotel, grounds, facilities) is a kind of fun factory pretending to be up market whilst longing to be Disney. The whole could REALLY use an in-depth audit of facilities maintenance, services and customer care, with special focus on food - how is it possible to screw up boiled potato's, so hard they could have doubled a cannon ammunition?
