Reviews for Cameron House on Loch Lomond

Beautiful setting, disappointing service — Cameron House misses the five-star details you’d expect for the price!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Cameron House is undeniably set in a stunning location, but unfortunately our stay fell well short of the five-star experience we were expecting from the moment we arrived. First impressions matter, and on arrival there was very little introduction to the resort itself. At check-in, we weren’t given any real overview of the facilities, what was on offer, or how best to make the most of the resort during our stay. For a large luxury destination with multiple restaurants, bars, leisure options, and activities, this felt like a real missed opportunity and left us largely figuring things out for ourselves. The hotel was also surprisingly difficult to navigate. Signposting to reception was poor, and if you don’t already have a good sense of direction, it can feel more like a maze down the corridors to your room than a luxury resort. Again, this felt like one of those finer details that should really be better executed at this level. Our room also missed the mark. Two windows were missing electronic blackout blinds entirely, which was baffling despite there being the bracketry in place in the window, and the bedding arrangement wasn’t ideal, the duvet was far too thick, there was no flat sheet, and the room felt uncomfortably warm overnight despite it being air-conditioned. That said, one of the highlights of our stay was walking over to La Vista on Saturday evening, where we really enjoyed the atmosphere and live singer. It was a lovely part of the evening and showed the kind of experience Cameron House is clearly capable of delivering when it gets things right. Earlier in the day, we visited the leisure centre, which while included for guests, was extremely busy, noisy, and full of children due to allowing day guest access and no restrictions on booking. While families will no doubt enjoy this, it didn’t feel particularly relaxing for those seeking the luxury spa-style experience you might expect. It would be a huge improvement if there were designated child-free times, especially for guests who don’t want to pay an additional £42 per person for the adults-only spa. Later that evening, we went to the Scots Bar for drinks where cocktails were priced at around £15 each — something that would perhaps feel more acceptable if the service matched the price point. Unfortunately, we were seated and told it was waiter service, but after waiting more than 10 minutes with our menus closed and clearly ready to order, no one came. In the end, I had to go to the bar myself. Dinner continued the same frustrating pattern with service. Our drinks didn’t arrive until after we had finished our starters, and our sides only came once we had finished our mains. The food itself was actually very nice — the cheese soufflé was delicious, the chateaubriand was cooked beautifully, and the sauces were excellent. However, the ratte potatoes were bland, and the Koffman fries were far too heavily seasoned. Sunday breakfast was probably the most disappointing part of the stay. We were faced with a huge queue just to get in — something I’ve never experienced before at a hotel breakfast, let alone at a supposed five-star resort. Once seated, things only got worse. Our eggs Benedict and eggs Royale never arrived, there were no plates available, no white bread, and no juice glasses, meaning we had to use champagne flutes instead (despite me raising these issues to numerous staff members). It felt chaotic, underprepared, and far below the standard you’d expect. What made the experience even more disappointing was checkout. We took the time to explain all of these issues to reception, but there didn’t seem to be any genuine concern or real interest in the feedback we were giving. The response felt more like a box-ticking exercise than an effort to truly understand or address the problems. We were simply offered removal of the service charge (which should arguably be optional anyway) and £30 off for breakfast. While the gesture was noted, it didn’t really reflect the overall level of disappointment or the number of issues raised. Given the prices charged throughout the stay, I’m honestly not sure I’d choose to pay them again based on the experience we had. Cameron House undoubtedly has the setting and potential to be exceptional, and there were glimpses of that — particularly at La Vista — but too often it missed the finer details that truly define five-star hospitality. While there were some enjoyable moments, too many service issues, poor organisation, and overlooked basics meant it simply didn’t feel worth the premium price tag.

Bathroom lacks cleanliness!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

I’m sorry to leave a review that differs so much from the others, but for double rooms priced between £350–£600 per night, I would expect an exceptional standard of cleanliness and comfort. Unfortunately, the bathroom grout was visibly dirty, and the bath itself appeared to have only been rinsed rather than properly cleaned. This became obvious when I ran my fingers along the surface before taking a bath; there was a noticeable grimy residue around the area where the previous waterline would have been from earlier guests. In addition, the noise insulation between rooms was extremely poor. We could hear the occupants above us walking around throughout the day and night due to the incredibly creaky floors, which made the stay quite unpleasant and far from relaxing. At this price point, I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect a deeper and more thorough clean, along with a more comfortable and peaceful environment. Perhaps the hotel could consider periodically taking rooms out of service for proper deep cleaning and maintenance. Regrettably, I have stayed in some Premier Inns with noticeably cleaner bathrooms and better sound insulation.

Favourite hotel in Scotland

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Our favorite hotel in Scotland! We visited for our wedding anniversary and my birthday and everything about our weekend stay was incredible. Sports bar excellent and chilled, our room was so fantastic we didn’t want to leave. Cameron grill the following evening and you just cannot top the Cameron House breakfast experience. It’s the best I’ve experienced, possibly the best start to a day you can have ! Staff always go above and beyond. Big thanks to the lovely gentleman who greet you and park the cars. They are one of my fave parts of our stay. We have met such lovely guys here. And a huge thanks to Caroline who is always going above and beyond at her job with the biggest smile on her face. Always a delight to catch up with her ❤️I cannot wait to return. Review a little late due to email access problem.. but I have not forgotten how wonderful our stay was and they deserve the best review.

What a brilliant team🌟

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

I wanted to thank the Cameron House team for a truly wonderful memorable day to celebrate my brothers 80th birthday. Starting with the booking ,liaising with Caroline who was very customer focused and helpful thoughtful to our needs. Then on to the actual day - Beginning with a fantastic river cruise with captain Claudine and hosted by Hugh who was attentive, charming ,engaging and ensured our party of 4 had everything we wanted which made the trip👍, the concierge who collected us from the jetty and drove us to the house for afternoon Tea.  The selection of food ,teas from a most interesting and unique menu were outstanding as was the taste 😋 which was totally exquisite and all this was eloquently explained and served to us by the delightful, very personable Trisha . To CJ who checked in with us to see how it was going and made sure we had all we needed. What a Team👏👏 they are all great ambassadors for brand Cameron House and you could tell they were proud to be so

Afternoon tea - expected better

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Visited Cameron House for a special occasion afternoon tea. At £50 a head this is top end prices and sadly it didn't deliver a top end experience. Our waiter was very friendly but it felt like they were a bit short staffed and things just didn't work as smoothly as you might expect - we didn't have enough tea cups for everyone on the table and things took a long time to arrive. The sandwiches and savouries were just fine. The scones were nice but some of the clotted cream was frozen solid and had to be replaced. The cakes were nice enough without being particularly memorable. The setting is stunning but the overall experience needs to be better to justify the high price.
