OMG, What has happened to Cameron house ? Service is chaotic, shortage of basic ingredients and food, poor staff training,skills and general apathy. We were staying with friends in a lodge over 18th to 21st May and were appalled by what has happened here. The Carrick spa was overcrowded, all facilities were full and it wasn't enjoyable. Shower cubicles were dirty with lots of clumps of hair and Kirby grips etc, we had to ask for them to be cleaned before using, it really was disgusting. The most incredulous experience was to follow - We visited the great Scott bar on Friday 19th May around 6.30pm. All window seats were reserved, we stayed for an hour and still no one sat there. We ordered drinks from 1 member of staff, 2 martin millers gins with strawberry and basil and 2 beers. Another member of staff came over and said there were no strawberries or basil !!! In the whole of the hotel !! height of Scottish Strawberry season !!! We then said we would have 2 Botanist with lemon and thyme. Another member of staff (new and nearly dropped the tray of drinks ) brought 2 beers, a martin millers with grapefruit and then left. Another member of staff then brought the bill. I didn't have my drink and my friend's drink was wrong. So we complained about the wrong, missing drinks and being given the bill when we hadn't asked for it. My drink then arrived but was the wrong gin and had no garnish whatsoever. Yet another member of staff arrived and said we could have free drinks, we didn't accept, we said we just wanted proper service and correct drinks !!! Off to the grill we go and the non stop calamities didn't stop...We were taken to our table and our server came over, introduced herself and the first words she said was just to let you know we are short of steaks tonight, so if you hurry up and let me know what you want, I can check to see if we have them. Well, 7.30pm on a Friday evening and they have a shortage of steaks !! REALLY. Its a grill restaurant for god sake. Anyway we said what steaks we would like, and were disappointed to learn that only 1 tomahawk steak was available, no chateaubriand left and no porterhouse to share. We couldn't believe this. Again, although we had our server, we had 4 different people serve us and the fundamental mistakes that were made didnt reflect a 5 star establishment. No explanation of the salmon platter, we had to ask what was what. Servers didnt know what cut of meat the tomahawk was. We were given hot plates for the tomahawk steak but the time it came the plates were cold as was the steak. The steak wasn't cooked with care and attention. Spinach had grit in it, chips and peas were of the frozen variety, we did not expect that at all. When asking for the manager to explain our experience, she took ages to come to us as she had a few irrate customers to deal with before us. She gave us the same apathetic apology as all the other staff we had spoken to and she came over with 4 glasses of prosecco - more free stuff. Again we said we didn't want free stuff we wanted her to accept our feedback and take on board our complaints. When we said we didn't want the prosecco she said for us to give it to other people in the restaurant !!! if that hadn't been so funny we could have cried. She ended up taking the food off the bill, but our night had been spoiled. We honestly could not believe the poor service, training and lazy attitude of the staff, we have never encountered such bad service and chaos in one of our favourite places. To add insult to injury, our friends who are lodge owners, went to check out and were asked if they had a good stay, they said no they had a lot of bad experiences to which the lady replied that's good, im glad you enjoyed your stay, so she clearly wasn't listening and wasn't bothered !!!! What has gone so seriously wrong at Cameron house ? can anyone shed a light on this, I feel if something isn't done then the hotel will lose its reputation. It is so concerning that they cant even get the food ordering right !!

On arrival you are made to feel welcome and the staff are very helpful. There were issues however - firstly the key cards to our door didn't work so my husband had to go back to reception twice to get new keys (this was the same for other guests too). There were no dressing gowns in our room so we had to ask for these. We ordered early afternoon drinks in the restaurant and got forgotten about - after 20 minutes we had to ask why our drinks hadn't arrived - at this stage we also ordered cake; the drinks came but no cake. When the cake did arrive we had finished our drinks - it all seemed a bit disjointed but the hotel did give us the cakes free of charge which was a positive step. Our room was on the ground floor with a great view of the loch - very spacious and very clean and comfortable however, the downside to this was a path running in front the window with lots of guests walking past so it didn't feel private as there were no net curtains over the windows - one gentleman decided to stop outside our window and just stare into our room. The facilities however were great and the staff, service and meal in the evening were second to none. Parking is too far away to walk with all your luggage especially in the pouring rain. Appreciate that there is vallet parking but I don't trust other people driving / parking my car (but thats just me)

I attended a wedding on Saturday and had originally planned on staying but after reading recent reviews on this hotel I was put off and my wife and I returned home after the wedding. My friends stayed and had no complaints about room standard , decor or cleanliness and believe me they are all quite fussy so I really can't get what happened with the other reviews. It did nt look tired to me and apart from new balcony being built the Main bar is a stunning space . The canapés and food were excellent . However ..... the standard of training given to the bar staff is obviously not up to standard . These young kids have no idea of how a bar (main bar) or reception bar should be run . You are paying very high prices at this venue and should never be left waiting for an order while 4 staff stand around ....or in one instance...3 staff washed glasses while one was left to serve 4 or 5 people waiting . The bar staff do not know their way around a bar and how to get people served quickly and efficiently. The same unfortunately has to be said about the service at the meal ....there were nt enough staff on duty and seemed to be one team of 8 serving each table and returning to the kitchen ?? Not what I expect at a top hotel in Scotland . I will return and stay at the hotel and look forward to it ...but if you are having a large party or wedding then I'd suggest you insist on knowing how many staff they will provide .And Cameron House ...either get better management at bar or train these young kids on how to work in a five star bar . Despite all had a great time and look forward to returning.

The hotel was a fabulous place to stay the room was very elegant and clean. The food was excellent and with good value for money. Top class hotel with the five star rating. Views spectacular. However the service was very disappointing during our stay ordered afternoon tea 40 mins to arrive and the cutlery was not clean. Service at the bar at night waited 45 mins for our drinks to arrive after complaining not the five star service you would expect.

Lucky enough to stay at the Cameron House for a family wedding. Iconic setting on the banks of Loch Lomond. We stayed in one of the Whisky suites and the room was stunning a fantastic combination of old world charm with modern facilities. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout
