Stayed for 1 night at Cameron House, the location is stunning, we loved the decor of the hotel, dark wood panels and papier-mâché hunting lodge animal heads you could see the print under the fox head in reception area. We arrived at 3.15pm to a long line waiting at reception to check in. I have never arrived at a hotel - a 5 star no less - and had to wait in line for 30 mins only to be told our room was not ready - this seems to be a recurring theme having read other reviews. Check in is at 11am how can the rooms not be ready at 3.45pm!? Not just us but lots of other people. Reception staff apologetic and given vouchers for drinks told will call when room is ready. Waited in the Great Scotts bar, which given the fact so many guests waiting for rooms was not surprised was busy. Ordered drinks, half the order arrived, then another waiter came with the whole order asked if we'd ordered more fizz, said no then walked away. Had to call them back and say the rest was our order! No system which when dealing with a busy bar and table service stops people wandering aimlessly! No call came waited till 5pm went back to reception to wait in line another 15 mins other guests in front checking in being told rooms still not ready!!? Check out 11am, check in 3pm rooms still not ready by 5.15pm! Not great service. Luckily our room was ready as we had plans at 6pm, leaving time a bit tight! Room was very nice, clean comfortable and again loved the decor. Came back after dinner to keys not working another trip to reception! When finally got into room found a cot had been delivered! 1 call to reception and was removed no problems. Breakfast was excellent cannot fault it. In summary, stunning location, loved the decor. Food was good, expect to pay 5 star prices. Pool area was good. Would expect not to have the issues with check in and rooms not being ready. It seems the hotel does not have the systems to deal with high volumes of "traffic" which for a 5 star establishment should be seamless.

Sat at the bar for about 5 minutes, then someone asked if the could help us. My husband asked for a pint of lager and a soda water. No soda on tap and no soda in bottles. I asked for a glass of water. Payment was made and change given, but no drinks appeared. It would seem they had been forgotten. I watched as my water was being poured and saw a slice of cucumber being added by hand. I couldn’t drink the water. When had the waiter last washed his hands!! On that said, the hotel is beautiful, but they need to look at their staffing, stock and cleanliness.

Great hotel just awful bar staff. You will wait for ever to get served unfortunately. The rest of the hotel was lovely and the food was great. The views were simply amazing the rooms were lovely the walks were a real gem and the valet guys were so kind and helpful. We would go back but not into the bar again. That's like pulling teeth. Shame as it's a beautiful hotel just let down by a few. Also they need more bar staff urgently.

First of all we had a excellent lunch in the grill service and food top class. We had also in the past been to Carrick Golf club for food which was good. The same could not be said for the great Scots bar where we had drinks and the service was terrible tables very littered with dirty dishes staff did not seem to have any training we had to ask twice for drinks when they were eventually brought over no milk or sugar and one cup was a coffee cup,We had a look around thinking about a overnight but definitely would not it was chaos for people checking in and a old man fell splitting his head. The leisure centre was dirty with broken lockers and missing doors in changing area!I would not see this as 5 star compared to old course St Andrews,Turnburry or Gleneagle, very disappointed.
